- Some people have a difficult time racking a firearm. This video may help.
We have been getting lots of questions about the proper way to rack the slide on pistols. Even more, for people with strengthen issues and arthritis. If you hav more questions please leave a comment below.
that push-away tactic was extremely helpful!
Glad it helped!
My son, Jason Frank recommended this site and I enjoyed it very much
Thanks for watching!
This help me a lot the 380 was hard to do I hurried my hands trying it all day
Glad I could help!
get an smith and wesson m&p 380 ez or ruger security 380...........and eliminate racking issues ...................easy to rack with one finger
I got an MP Smith Wesson. I thought it was just me and the fact that I need to break it in. I feel like once I use it more, it'll become easier. I get nervous now because one time I got pinched trying to pull the slide back. I've used a gun before. Went to the range several times and took a license to carry class. Eventually, when I get things together, I want to take more classes on how to handle a gun.
Yes the spring will get lighter when you use it more. You have a great gun. It will be fine. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! You're welcome 🙂
I’ve been shooting most of my 76 years. Hand strength mainly rests in the fingers, ability to grab. The older one gets the finger strength weakens first. I have found, even with myself, and those around me tilting the platform towards the weak hand thus allowing a good thumb and finger grab on the rear and as you demonstrated and pushing with your strong hand The Grip of the platform against your grip on the slide has the best result. The tilt is very important that that position allows those with a weaken pinch to hold the slide tighter than just wrapping over the slide in it’s upward orintation. I use this in the “Israeli-draw” and there is a big advantage to that tilt, presenting the slide to the support (weak) hand. Yes, you can bring the platform into your body and use the overhand grab of the slide with the push-pull, but the orientation is at risk.
There is also the possibility in a reduced RSA that will allow an easier slide manipulation without damaging the platform, as Glock will recommend a reduced RSA in its platforms. There is also slide back-plates that can be easily installed to aid in weak hand grasping of the rear of the slide.
Thanks for the information!
Thank you!!! My brother was trying to teach me with his gun, and it was to difficult for me because I have weak hands. I get my own gun soon. Can't wait to try your technique.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
I wanna say your teaching is great
Thank you!!!
Very helpful information, thanks Todd!

Good advice. - greetings from South Africa
Hello S/A!!!!! I have ties to Kenya north of you! I hope all is good with you. Thanks for the comment!
Great explanation! Thanks for the lesson!
My pleasure! Hope it helps!
Good suggestions.
Thanks for watching!
If your weak, best to get a revolver. Especially if your going to use it for self defense.
Or get a gun that is easy to rack the slide. Thanks for the information
Great information thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
There is a better way. Buy a Glock and install either a charging ring or T-handle on the back of the slide. Problem solved. There might be other guns that have this feature but I don’t know of any. I’m 74 recovering from shoulder surgery. I can easily rack my Glock 34 with T-handle.
Thanks for commenting!
good advice. i just got a red dot. whats the best technique for racking a pistol with red dot on top? thank you. subscribed.
Now it is even easier to use the sight to assist with the rack. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the vid Todd
Thanks for watching!
I prefer to adjust my grip so my index finger is on the hand grip (stock?) Instead of pointing alongside the barrel. The instinct to wrap the index finger shield the hand grip is just to risky. Of course combat drills are different. And i think a light racking gun would be best for most of this target audience. Not too mention a 20 rounds magazine for home defense. Nothing beats ample back up rounds.
Thanks for watching! Glad you have a system!!
Get a smith and wesson m&p ez or a ruger security either 9mm or 380...........and away your racking issues ok !
We hope they come to the CA roster soon.
Question, on a cz shadow 2 orange the slide pull is heavy and the slide is slim, I have trouble grasping it. Not sure if it's been asked already but thought I'd ask for thoughts on that? Thx
One of my biggest complaints about the CZ is the tiny slide. They did that to lower top end weight, but it is miserable to rack the slide because there is not enough grip space. That is just what that gun is. Don't use hand lotion... That is about the only suggestion I can give. Thanks for watching!
Good instruction, well presented...but too much echo, echo, echo...over? A better microphone needed.
Thanks for watching!
My 380 is so small the I have to pinch bc there’s no room for my fingers with an overhand grip
The smaller the gun the more you need to grip it. Thanks for watching!
Yes we get it keep it pointed down range !!! How many times are you gonna say it !! Jesus get on with it man !!! 🤦
I have seen people really hurt and many Neg Discharges because of forgetting to keep the muzzle down range. We can not emphasize it enough. Thanks for watching!
Your first method would NEVER work with a SW MP shield!
I challenge you do to so,.......you won't be able to!
Thanks for the video!
Challenge accepted. Thanks for watching!
