The character of Kami's voice matches Joni's so closely it's uncanny. I mean, slightly different timbre, slightly different vibrato but her cadence and pitch is spot on. Kami basically nails it.
my thoughts exactly - same age as you - these kids are so refreshing - the 60's were not ALL acid rock - Joni's Blue is still a Masterpiece - this kids do it justice, don't they?
Gotta admit this is one of the best covers...no one can sing this song like Joni back in 1970...but this is so so good. Who doesn't just love Joni Mitchell over 80 years old now ....
Oh my goodness, I absolutely love her voice. The highs sound so wonderful and happy and bright. This was such a great arrangement, thanks so much you two!
I bet the guy means Joni Mitchell. She does sound just like Joni, highs and lows and in betweens... I’d love to hear her sing Big Yellow Taxi come to think of it...
This is phenomenal. Girl’s got crazy good chops, without being yet another breathy, mid Atlantic accented hipster chanteuse. Well done the both of you!
I spent twenty-five plus years playing saxophone for a living before turning to "settle down" as a commercial advertising photographer, marry a school teacher and raise two daughters. I turned 65 a few days ago and life has slowed a bit, though a lifetime as a six-hour sleeper of no particular schedule still often sees me running down something of interest into the wee hours. This evening now finds me, iPad in lap and discovering this channel so full of life and love and music; so very much music, it makes my heart sing. I've long been a Joni fan and had such a crush on her in my youth and beyond that I must of seen her in concert more than a dozen times. Perusing Josh's channel for a couple hours now and discovering these two playing this music so beautifully has truly restored my faith in knowing there are young musicians that understand the breadth and depth of the musical heritage they are now responsible for keeping alive. "Oh, I'm a mean ol' daddy but I like you... I like you I like you I like you..." And how could I not now feel a bit of a crush on Kami too. Cheers and "Carey" on...
@@shimreef And I’m an old guy; far too old for Kami. A “crush” has nothing to do with sex, age or marriage status. It’s not like imma gonna creep on her. LOL It’s more of a spiritual thang. 🤷🏻♂️
@@saraswati1386 ~Well, I’ll admit that a”dozen” is probably a bit of an exaggeration... but probably at least eight times! 🤣✌️(I saw her with Jaco! Exquisite.) Cheers
I am so impressed. Joni's melodies require incredibly smooth switching between vocal registers and Kami Maltz is the only person to have achieved this with Joni's fluidity and soul. Incredible. Josh, your guitar playing and vocals are equally impressive. This series of the two of you doing Joni's music is a real favourite. Thank you.
The wind is in from Africa Last night I couldn't sleep Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here Carey But it's really not my home My fingernails are filthy I've got beach tar on my feet And I miss my clean white linen and my fancy French cologne Oh Carey get out your cane (Carey get out your cane) And I'll put on some silver (I'll put on some silver) Oh you're a mean old Daddy, but I like you fine Come on down to the Mermaid Cafe And I will buy you a bottle of wine And we'll laugh and toast to nothing and Smash our empty glasses down Let's have a round for these freaks and these soldiers A round for these friends of mine Let's have another round for the bright red devil, who Keeps me in this tourist town Come on Carey get out your cane (Carey get out your cane) And I'll put on some silver (I'll put on some silver) Oh you're a mean old Daddy, but I like you I like you, I like you, I like you Maybe I'll go to Amsterdam Or maybe I'll go to Rome And rent me a grand piano and put some flowers 'round my room But let's not talk about fare-thee-wells now The night is a starry dome And they're playin' that scratchy rock and roll Beneath the Matalla Moon Come on Carey get out your cane (Carey get out your cane) And I'll put on some silver (I'll put on some silver) You're a mean old Daddy, but I like you The wind is in from Africa Last night I couldn't sleep Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here, but it's Really not my home Maybe it's been too long a time since I was Scramblin' down in the street Now they got me used to that clean white linen and that Fancy French cologne Oh Carey, get out your cane (Carey get out your cane) I'll put on my finest silver (I'll put on some silver) We'll go to the Mermaid Cafe, have fun tonight I said, oh, you're a mean old Daddy, but you're out of sight
I've seen Joni four times in my younger day (I'm 70 ) and you two have this profound energy as if you had created this song !! I'm stunned .... Thanks !!♡!!
I haven't been able to get on TH-cam for the past couple of weeks without listening to this about 14 times in a row. I'm a huge Joni Mitchell fan and love what you did this one. Fantastic work!
A very brave thing to do - cover a Joni song - and you guys performed brilliantly! Wonderful job!!! This is coming from a 66-year-old Joni fan since Court and Spark. Excellent!
Slappee Gaming couldn’t agree more! Always find some song to smile about when he posts these. Tears at times for years gone by but beautiful nonetheless.
It warms my heart to find so many kindred spirits here on Josh his channel. Greetings to all who love and appreciate the extremely creative music of the sixties and seventies. Thanks for bringing us together with your talent, Josh!
How come that we 70+ like this so much? Answer: We can see ourselves as young, and we really like all young people singing and playing as fantastic as this. I have a huge hope for the future listening to this.
That guitar tuning is Bruce Palmer Db5 modal tuning, Stephen Stills used it for many of his famous songs, he played love the one you’re with in C5 on the record and D5 live, Suite: Judy Blue Eyes was in E5, as was Carry On/Questions and 4:20
So she's totally got it. Her head voice is effortless, just like Joni's was. And she's got the soul to sing it like she means it. . . but I think everybody is forgetting to mention that this dude is a great accompanist too! He plays guitar really expressively and he has a nice voice totally nailing the harmony. Seriously, you guys rock. Keep playing together!
This fabulous song from Blue is coming up for 50 years old but you two have made it sound as fresh as a daisy. More than that I can't help thinking yours is even better than Joni's. What d'you say Joni?
I've listen to this many times and I still think she sings this just like Joni! She has incredible control of her instrument. The arrangement, the care and the sound are just amazing! 10th time listening to this! Guitar work is incredible. Nothing else to say. TY!
Duuuuuuuuude come on. You are really an inspiration for anyone who loves doing exactly what you do, having a good time playing good music with incredible people. Thanks for sharing your work and introducing me to incredible music!
As a person who has loved the music of Joni Mitchell since the early '70's, and who has built and played dulcimers as long, thank you both for a beautiful memory!
I cried too. Such a beautiful voice. So aligned with Joni Mitchell's energy and the song, but with both of your own unique gifts added. Thank you both so much for your beautiful music and musicianship.
I had youtube playing in the background and was grooving to this tune not knowing who I was listening to until I heard Josh's voice. Killing it as usual. Keep it up!!!
Lovely! Having to concentrate on the instrument so hard served you well - no "affectation" and so close to Mitchell's original purity for almost all of the song - really fantastic - thank you!
Not sure how I missed this many years ago. Insanely good, Kami's voice is so good and your Talent as always is superb Josh, I really dug the Palmer tuning giving that Steven Stills vibe. I'm usually not a huge Joni fan but wow this really killed it. Thank you!
I really appreciate this performance. Complex sound with varied strings and unexpected octave shifts. I was instantly captivated, but more nuances come out each time I hear it.
Wow ... that was just too good (both of you)! Love seeing people your age singing these great older songs. Joni Mitchell is in my top 3 singer songwriters of all time.
Fantastic! If you see the number of views going up exponentially it's me playing it over and over again wishing that I was as young and talented as you two! BTW, for those guitar hacks, like me, who want to strum along at home put a capo on the first fret and play C G & F.
I love most of what Josh does but this is absolutely wonderful. It gives me chills to know that the music I was raised on, the music that was the background of my life, is being carried on so beautifully by incredibly talented folks like these. Kami's voice is perfect and yes her playing was perfect too. Bravo!
Just got this as a suggested video, but it seems I liked it already somewhere in the past. No problem! Always happy to hear this again! As a matter of fact, I'm going to both of your channels and go on a Joni binge right now!
Been listening to Joni for 40+ years and this is the best cover of a Joni song that I have ever heard. The energy and musicianship of both are sublime, but Kami's voice is the keystone. Absolutely floored by this, have listened over and over again, eventually with tears streaming down my face.
What an amazing job. It's a hard enough song to sing even without having to play the dulcimer part. And, as an added bonus, I'm sitting watching it in my front room looking across the bay to Matala which is the tourist town the song was written about.
The character of Kami's voice matches Joni's so closely it's uncanny. I mean, slightly different timbre, slightly different vibrato but her cadence and pitch is spot on. Kami basically nails it.
She does Joni justice. Very impressive.
Claudio biondi
So impressive
She has the perfect voice for learning the dulcimer. If you can sing like that, it's like the Universe requires it of you!
You made me cry. A 67 year old man. You sound so much like a younger Joni Mitchell. Love this. Thanks.
68, and me too.
rick dalbey,
Got you beat at 73 next month, but this gets to me too.
my thoughts exactly - same age as you - these kids are so refreshing - the 60's were not ALL acid rock - Joni's Blue is still a Masterpiece - this kids do it justice, don't they?
Me too and I'm also 67,just pure greatness
Me also.
Josh. Make an album with her. I will buy it immediately. Wow.

Mindblowing amount of talent on that couch...
there is hope in this world... the music didn't die after all.
Oh my goodness, I absolutely love her voice. The highs sound so wonderful and happy and bright. This was such a great arrangement, thanks so much you two!
The highes sound of her voice sounds like Johnny Mitchell
@Adriano Dias, "...Johnny Mitchell?" Johnny??? What??? LOLOLOLOLOL!!! Sorry... that's all I can say... HAHAHAHA!
I bet the guy means Joni Mitchell. She does sound just like Joni, highs and lows and in betweens... I’d love to hear her sing Big Yellow Taxi come to think of it...
Buddy, I'm not familiar with Joanie Mitchell, but if she sings this good... I'll have to check her out. ;) lol.
AND, finally, it's JONI MITCHELL
This is phenomenal. Girl’s got crazy good chops, without being yet another breathy, mid Atlantic accented hipster chanteuse. Well done the both of you!
_"yet another breathy, mid Atlantic accented hipster chanteuse."_ 😂🤣😫😂🤣
I'm totally stealing that one
Anyone who can sing Joni has my respect. This is great! As a dulcimer player, I am impressed by your ability on the instrument.
Her voice is incredible!
I can't remember the last time I felt so thankful for a TH-cam recommendation.

Let's have a round for these freaks and these soldiers

Come on Carey get out your cane (Carey get out your cane)

Oh you're a mean old Daddy, but I like you
I like you, I like you, I like you
Maybe I'll go to Amsterdam
Or maybe I'll go to Rome
And rent me a grand piano and put some flowers 'round my room
But let's not talk about fare-thee-wells now
The night is a starry dome
And they're playin' that scratchy rock and roll
Beneath the Matalla Moon
Come on Carey get out your cane (Carey get out your cane)
And I'll put on some silver (I'll put on some silver)
You're a mean old Daddy, but I like you
The wind is in from Africa
Last night I couldn't sleep
Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here, but it's
Really not my home
Maybe it's been too long a time since I was
Scramblin' down in the street
Now they got me used to that clean white linen and that
Fancy French cologne
Oh Carey, get out your cane (Carey get out your cane)
I'll put on my finest silver (I'll put on some silver)
We'll go to the Mermaid Cafe, have fun tonight
I said, oh, you're a mean old Daddy, but you're out of sight

Beautiful. Please make more Joni covers.
This gets better every time I listen to it. He voice is just so perfect for covering Joni. I really would love to hear you do "A Case of You".
Really must have this one on the list😀
Kami, you have my husband and I in tears. Never heard anyone able to sing Joni. You are amazing. Will listen to this often! Thank you!
It's true, no one ever does her justice in their covers except this chick
She has the voice of angel. Does this song perfectly
I haven't been able to get on TH-cam for the past couple of weeks without listening to this about 14 times in a row. I'm a huge Joni Mitchell fan and love what you did this one. Fantastic work!
Can't believe this tuning exist. Awesome playing, great singing. Now I have to tune my guitar.
Nailed it .... very nice ty. Nice to see some young folks playing REAL music for a change ... lovely
more collaborations with Kami please. really enjoy them!
What a enchanting voice - Kami sounds so much like Joni. Mezmerising voice.
Just noticed 0:53 - reposition Dulcimer without missing a beat - keep playing - Brilliant

All time fave Joni track, and this version by Josh and Kami is sublime.
Joni`s music lives on, real class thank you
She learned this in a week? Learned the dulcimer to perform it? You're both geniuses.
Joni would approve. What a beautiful tribute. Kami is note for note, beat for beat from the original, and Josh is merely superb as always.
