The Religion of Jesus the Jew

  • In this narrated overview I survey the Jewish religious climate of the Land of Israel in the time of Jesus, attempting to understand what one might call his "religion" as a Jew. He resists pigeonholing, but we can say quite a quite a bit about him, as well as John the Baptizer and his brother James, who spearheaded and led the movement for its first five decades.

Jesus was announced as king of Israel in that choice between Jesus and Barabbas. Quickly said, Pilot dressed Jesus up as King, Pilot presented Jesus to the Sanhedrin and high priest among the crowd as "their King". Told the crowd to choose to crucify "their King" or Barabbas. The Saducees and High Priest chose "their king" Jesus to be crucified and instigated the Jewish crowd to choose "their King" to be crucified..... and so the Priesthood anointed Jesus as their king in order for him to be executed. And Pilat published this fact above Jesus head at a time when Jerusalem was most crowded of Jews from all over the realm.
What this accomplished was to legalize according to Torah law Jesus' amended covenant and make irrelevant all burdensome Talmudic rules.
I think Jesus and Pilat planned it together. Neet trick on the Sanhedrin huh.

Conversation between Mary and CP (Child Person)
      CP: Who is your God?
      Mary: Yahweh
CP: Who is the God of your child?
Mary: Yahweh is the God of Jesus
      CP: Why?
Mary: There was only one holy book when Jesus was born, which is the Torah. And teaching God is Yahweh and nothing else.
      CP: Then
Mary: I still teach him that God is Yahweh.
      CP: Can he be God?
Mary: Previously, there was Pharaoh and Nimrud who claimed to be gods. I didn't make a mistake the second time
      CP: Ok, next
Mary: Jesus was very weak as a child, dependent on others, I fed him. This is not the nature of God. I hope everyone understand

Dr. Tabor's book "The Jesus Dynasty" is a must read for those searching for the historical versus the theological Jesus. Warning, if your faith is tied to the Jesus myth constructed by European Christianity then you may wish to pass on this book but if you are in search of historical and archaeological evidence interpreted and presented in a scholarly but readable fashion about Jesus prophet and jew then this book will be both fascinating and illuminating.

@@eklypised Every single one of Jesus’ followers were Jews. So what do you mean by “why did the Jews want to kill Jesus?” All Jews wanted Jesus dead? No. Only some specific people in positions of power probably viewed Jesus as a threat. The vast majority of Jews did not know who he was or care about what he was saying, which is why his followers were few in numbers and poor.
Why does anyone want to kill anyone else? What lead to Christian’s killing Christian’s? There’s myriad reasons to such a question.
The best theory I’ve heard as to why the temple authorities handed him to the romans (who did the actual killing) was because they were afraid that if he caused a rebellion the entire Jewish race would be punished as a result. Hard to say they were wrong, if they did indeed think that, given what later happened during the great Jewish revolt and the bar kokbah revolt. These two revolts and their consequences changed the face of Judaism forever and were the beginning of a long history of tragedies in the hands of European kingdoms and empires.

“…for many Jews it was impossible to separate the social and political realities of military occupation and economic oppression from Jewish piety and Faith. The Jewish belief that the people of Israel have been chosen by God to become a model nation that would exemplify Justice and Righteousness to the entire world was fundamental. The Hebrew prophets had predicted that in the last days all nations would go up to Jerusalem to learn about the one true, creator God, irresistibly drawn by Israel's moral example of peace and justice. Not all Jews accepted such an idealistic vision but enough did that John the Baptizer, Jesus and his brother James were able to spark a movement that threatened the highest levels of the political and religious establishment. - The Gospel of Jesus was originally one book, written by Lazarus in consultation with the Apostles [John 21:24] and published soon after Jesus left them on their own. The religion was hijacked by Rome, the Gospel was broken up scrambled adulterated into a bunch of competing narratives. Later four of those adulterated gospels were canonized with falsely ascribed authorship and a Gnosticism cover-story. It was the finding of an original Gospel of Jesus scroll in Jerusalem that gained the Knights Templar power over the Church and their eventual undoing when the church finally retaliated against them Friday 13th.

    • @brianfileman
      @brianfileman ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thought I would pitch in here.
Firstly, David might or might not have existed as a real king or human being. Perhaps he is just a legend. If he did exist, I doubt the veracity or reliability of any stories written *down about him (effectively 400-500 years later in Babylon).
But let’s assume he was king of a minor state in and around Jerusalem. It is written that he hat several children, as did his supposed son Solomon.
In the intervening 800-900 years, given the way generics work in small populations, the odds are that Jesus would have been able to claim some sort of lineage back to David, probably via both parents. But then so would most of the population in that area.
So it’s not that relevant, unless one is wanting to retro-engineer a ‘prophesy’ and use it as proof about a specific messianic claim.
Even finding evidence of biblical figures or habitations in no way validates the religious claims in scripture. After all, we have *proof that Egyptian pharaohs existed. Their literature claims they are also gods. All of the Ceasers existed. They were worshiped as gods too. As were figures across cultures and time. Do we accept those claims as being divine truth? Outside a few devotees, I’d say no. So why believe the god of the Bible is any more real?
Sorry, that became a bit of a rant.

To understand the relevance of Jesus let's just study Daniel's 70 weeks prophecy. Without ignoring passages, altering punctuation, rearranging scripture, relying on obscure extra-biblical apostates, or imaginary calendar keeping, a plain reading of Dan 9:25, 26 shows that from Artaxerxes I decree to Ezra to take all the volunteers he wanted and return with them to Judah and Jerusalem, and further giving Ezra authority over the region and substantial funds, wasn't just a fact finding trip - it was to restore Jerusalem. From which event, simple addition of 69 weeks of years yields the baptism ("anointing") of Jesus Christ in A.D. 26, all consistent with history and His age, length of ministry and crucifixion ("cutting off") in A.D. 30, the only year in which the gospel accounts of Passion Week can be harmonized and reconciled with calendars. Daniel 9:25, 26 is in fact fulfilled Messianic prophecy is clearly fulfilled in Jesus. You will now say it's coincidence. Just like it's coincidence he was born in Bethlehem. Was pierced, smitten, entered Jerusalem on a donkey, bones not broken etc. All that coincidence? Even the great prophecy in Daniel? Really?

This is a channel about genuine scholarship. It's not a train platform. If you're going to proselytize at least know what you're talking about. You show no respect for the scholar or for scholarship when you barge in just to shout slogans. If you're going to preach, at least make a reasoned, cited academic argument for it. If you're going to say a cross stands for love, back that up with something. Do some research on acrostics in Jewish or Greek literature. You might be able to manufacture a pseudo-academic argument. I've seen worse.

very interesting video. but i would disgree with the idea that the pharisees were a small elitist group. josephus says a few times that the multitude of the jews followed the pharisees
    josephus says:
[288] However, this prosperous state of affairs moved the Jews to envy Hyrcanus; but they that were the worst disposed to him were the Pharisees, 1 who were one of the sects of the Jews, as we have informed you already. These have so great a power over the multitude, that when they say any thing against the king, or against the high priest, they are presently believed.
    (15) On account of these doctrines, they (Pharisees) are very influential among the body of the people, and whatever they do about divine worship, prayers, and sacrifices, they perform them according to their direction. In this way, the inhabitants of the cities gave great tribute to the Pharisees by conducting themselves virtuously, both in their way of life and their discourses as well.

Jesus did not 'move beyond it' - as if to abandon it - that would be error. He was trying to show that the Lord does ALL THINGS (Isaiah 45: 7), and that all were as such 'bound by their actions' to the law, and elevated the requirements of it to a spiritual level, whereby the fruits of a persons actions (what comes out of a man) defiled him.
The law cannot be enforced by the letter, as you would have to break it in order to fulfill it.
This is what Jesus wrote in the sand...
Exodus 21:12 or (but less likely) Leviticus 24:17
The 'scales' that fell from Saul's eyes, were the scales of rights to judge. Evil has a purpose - it's the most enjoyable way to learn what NOT to do.

    Isaac only
when you look at what Paul is saying in his letters, it states clearly only the children of Isaac can receive the promise,..
This is why the scribes and Pharisees were persecuting them, you see the scribes and Pharisees were actually the children of Ishmael... and Paul was basically saying they were not included..
Genesis 16:12And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
Galatians 4:28¶Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
29But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
30Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
    Also note..
Paul in the passages below states, just because people are the children of Abraham doesn't make them heirs to the promises,
Paul goes on to say that only the children of Isaac could receive the promises which the letters a referencing...
Let me also add, Paul would not write letters to people at Rome about the Affairs of a bloodline covenant,
if these Gentiles at Rome were not the" bloodline of Isaac"
    .......(The northern house).......
    Let's review.
Romans 9 7Neither, because they are the bloodline of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy bloodline be called.
8That is, They which are the children of the flesh,= Ishmael ) are not the children of God: but the children of the promise=( Isaac) are counted for the bloodline.
9For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.
    Note,
Paul in Romans 9:9 refers you to Genesis 17:21 confirming it's their bloodline Covenant which is indeed being referenced..
Genesis 17:21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.
Now this doesn't mean you can't have salvation, but it does mean you can't have part in the promises it's referencing from the letters..
Such as being part of the body of Christ, the Eternal priesthood for example...
But you can be a fellow citizen in a finished Kingdom with a finished eternal Temple which now makes intercession from the clouds of Heaven as we speak..
As the children of Isaac , the corporate body of Christ has inherited all things and now control the New Covenant as the Saints of Heaven....
Romans 4 13¶For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
Isaiah 49 8¶Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages..
Isaiah 54:3For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.

    A couple of tiny misapprehensions...
    (1) Most families could not remotely afford to make all of the pilgrimages to Jerusalem every year; you lose too many workdays just coming and going and leave the home village unoccupied and unprotected - depending on how far away they were and their specific means, they made as many pilgrimages to Jerusalem as possible. To do otherwise is to create the conditions for starvation. The farmers needed to tend their crops and animals, it's as simple as that. Perhaps you could get a neighbor to tend yours for a week, probably in return for tending theirs. Otherwise, in subsistence agriculture, somebody is going to starve to death. See the importance of human life, below.
Now as a single, healthy, male with no family responsibilities and a trade (not a farmer) it would have been easier for Jesus to make the pilgrimage than it was for most; but the same would be true of any other single, healthy male who was not a farmer. It's not remarkable in any way.
    (2) There is no reason to suppose that Jesus (or most anybody els) was circumcised at the Temple. It was then, as now, done near home and often in the home. Travelling with a newborn was insanely dangerous, and even worse for the mother. Basic respect for the lives of the individuals, which is among the highest of all Jewish values, makes a trip to the Temple from any distance, absurd and very very wrong, the deepest sort of irresponsible sin. If anybody at all was circ'd in the Temple precincts, it would have been only the folks who lived there - and even then, likely performed in the living quarters.
    (3) Was Jesus a "card-carrier"? Nope, there's no such thing. There's no such thing as formal denominations. Sadducees and Pharisees were more like styles and bodies of opinion; they were not formal things that a person could "join" or "quit." Some individuals were strongly opinionated one way or another, but there was no "membership." Essenes were a little different, because they tended to live in isolated communities. And you're right, the largest group of Jews were "just Jews" - these "partisan" distinctions were entirely a matter of the educated elite. Even such modern distinctions as "Reform Judaism" or "Orthodox Judaism" have no formal meaning within Judaism; one can switch between then without "converting." One is born into Judaism or converts into Judaism, one is not born or converted into "Reformism" or "Orthodoxy." It's not like Catholics vs Protestants, or this-Protestant-denomination vs that one. Likewise one was never born or converted to "Pharisaism" or "Sadducism" - this makes no sense and has no meaning. One is a Jew, or one is not; and if not, one can hang out with Jews and pray with Jews provided only that one is not disrespectful. Further, although one born Gentile can convert to become a Jew, one faces no penalty in this life or the next if one doesn't.

Taylor constructed her ridiculous image of Jesus by tritely dismissing the Shroud of Turin as authentic. She bought into Dr. McCrone's "painting" theory and then opined that the images on the Shroud were the result of a medieval penitential rite. Her book is full of errors and makes no sense. Everything that came after Yehoshua the teacher of what is called the Matthew gospel is of the false christ created after the gospel, after the good news preached in the gospel, that christ is false, a deception its name jesus and its cross never happened except in the man of sins lying epistles, the writings of Paul of tarsus and the rest of the ones who come in the name if jesus and not in the name of God alone as all true lost sheep will. We serve God alone not any christ!
I know God, I walk in covenant with God and I Love God. I fear God as well and that is the beginning of Love because until you fear disobeying God and causing God to look upon you in shame so you feel horrible then you can not love Him. I started this walk when I was 32, to look for God. I started to actually begin to find God when I was 39 and sealed myself to God as the gospel tells us to, those of us who listen to the gospel teacher and not the ones who came after him, know to take up the commandments of God and to seek out our roots back to Abraham and to Moses and Yehoshua and the prophets so we become firm in knowledge of what GOD ALONE asked of us. It took me several years of fighting sin and the devil by obeying God. I fought the sin out of me with God's help, by his instructions in the written word. It is a very narrow road and as the mattan/Matthew gospel says very few will find it. We have to fight Satan and the whole world that serves him in sin in order to get out and the one who will help is God alone because we can't trust anyone else. I am with God, God provides for myself and my family and yes there is absolutely evidence BUT not until you absolutely come clean, in thought, word and deed, the absolute opposite of all the lying religions. The gospel was sent down to free us from sin by sending us to our teacher and if you reject it then you are freed from God into sin perpetually and to death spiritually from God which as I can now see is absolutely hell on earth, your light you pretend to have is absolutely darkness caused by your unwillingness to even try to obey God. I speak to 99% of the population. If you can't put everyone first after God and stop yourself from all sin THEN YOUR NOT WORTHY AND YOU ARE ALREADY FINISHED BEFORE YOU EVEN STARTED.
So come out of all sun, take up the commandments and begin your battle, call to GOD ALONE, LEARN YOUR ROOTS, BE GOD'S PEOPLE. FIGHT SATAN WHO IS THE SINNERS INNER VOICE, THE CONSCIENCE THAT LEADS YOU TO HURT YOU, that's not you, it's Satan the deceiver. If you come to God and pass the trials cleansing yourself by obedience then GOD WILL BECOME YOUR CONSCIENCE AND YOU WILL LOVE GOD AND HATE SIN, SATAN WILL FLEE FROM YOU.
    SO there it is.
Peace, the ball in in your court
Be wary of this world, it is the valley of death, you need God's light and God doesn't dwell with sin or sinners. Not until they begin the journey to stop sin.

You open by saying Jesus “read” the scriptures in Hebrew. Isn’t it most likely that Jesus was illiterate, as were most of the population. Didn’t he speak Aramaic? I believe that you, yourself, have said that only the upper class and elites were literate, that there was no school in Nazareth.

One of the problems with this narrative is that it was not Palestine at the time of Jesus. Also, Jesus said that He and the Father are one. If you had seen Him, you would have seen the Father. Sounds like He claimed to be God to me. Plus all the Apostles claimed that he was God, and died to prove it.

When a person is spiritually worthy, only then are they blessed. A person is never blessed or shines, just because they call themselves so, that is a contradiction!
Why christi-anity is it's own anti-christ! An arrogant movement that destroys people's opportunity to come closer to the True God, it instead created a fake God it calls the jesus trinity!

Publius Quinctilius Varus goverened Syria from 7-6 BC until 4 BC. "The Jewish historian Josephus mentions the swift action of Varus against a messianic revolt in Judaea after the death of the Roman client king, Herod the Great, in 4 BC. After occupying Jerusalem, he crucified 2000 Jewish rebels and may have thus been one of the prime objects of popular anti-Roman sentiment in Judaea ." When Varus committed suicide in Teutoburg Forest fighting the Germanic tribes led by Arminius Jesus would have been a child and surely the people of Judaea would have celebrated his death. This is a connection most people miss.

The Gospel of Jesus was originally one book, written by Lazarus in consultation with the Apostles [John 21:24] and published soon after Jesus left them on their own.

There are no apostles, there are no other fathers or teachers allowed, there is only God and those who come in the name of God, mot idols!! The jesus is an idol just like mithra for example. It's only for sinners to follow so they leave us alone

No. Isaiah prophesied “There shall come a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a NAZARENE shall grow out of his roots.
Matthew 2:23 “And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, HE SHALL BE CALLED A NAZARENE.”
Jesus was a Nazarene… a Galilean. “And the multitude said, Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. “
    Matthew 21:11
The word “Jew” did not exist. The letter “J” was not invented until about 1524.
When Jesus taught about the Rapture, He used the ancient Galilean wedding to foreshadow the biblical rapture. His disciples, other than Judas, were Galileans.
