    Great video. I'm about to wrap up my Master of Information Studies and have been playing around with ChatGPT which has helped inform my final assignment. When asking questions, I've also been asking ChatGPT to provide in-text citations and list of references. Unfortunately, I've not been able to successfully cross-reference any of the references. In most cases the articles don't even exist haha. Cool tool. It'll be interesting to see how the use cases and application of the technology evolve for research and academic writing

      I had a similar experience. I asked: "How does the complexity of decoding increase as a function of the number of qubits? Include a reference." The response included this promising reference: "Duclos-Cianci, G., & Poulin, D. (2019). Linear programming decoding of the surface code. Physical Review Research, 1(1), 013002." Unfortunately, no such article exists! I have tried similar queries with similarly bogus results. I gave feedback to ChatGPT so they can hopefully fix this in the future. Without legitimate references, ChatGPT is of limited use for scientific work.

    • @SciGradCoach
      @SciGradCoach  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it is ethical to use ChatGPTs responses as a starting point. Honestly, if you want to write great research articles, I don't think you can rely on ChatGPT alone. It won't have the understanding for your research and data as you do and ultimately when you grow your writing skills you would be able to write your articles faster than using ChatGPT, but it can be a helpful partner in the process! :)

      This is true. Unfortunately, though, it seems to be making up the references arbitrarily. I'm studing information studies, so know my way around databases and search strategies, but have had a poor hit rate in the finding the articles it lists. Even going to the journal site and looking for the Vol and Issue No has been unsuccessful.

      ChatGPT does not have the ability to pull information from webpages or drive. It will likely just make up information based off of your prompt. Therefore, I would instead suggest that you use Elicit or SciSpace Co-Pilot instead.

And my dumbass submitted the wrong file and now I have no fucking clue what will happen. I’m trying to make a TH-cam channel based on psychology topics too and I was going to make a “The Psychology of Conspiracy Theories” mega video using my work.
