Hello James. Another great video on a loco review. I would not change anything or any part of your classic reviews and methods but only suggest you add a run-by at speed. Not to replace what an outstanding job you are doing or any one part of it but rather as an addition. Perhaps a final 30 seconds.

What a fantastic steam locomotive, it would look wonderful inside a locomotive display case when not in operation on a layout.

195 cars according to your pull test. Wow! now you have to find a layout you can run that many cars on and test it out. I would like to hear the results of that test. Mr. James have you ever though about using your round house turn table for some of your reviews?

I got mine a few weeks ago. Wasn't able to get it on the layout until last week. I really like the look and the power. The first thing I did was put it on the programming track and turn all the sounds down, and the unused ones off. It is very loud. I then turned off the smoke. To kiddish for me. I ran it for a few hours to break it on. No issues at all. I grabbed a cut of about 40 cars and it didn't hesitate to pull them the entire layout, including up the "hill". It out pulled both ATSF 2-10-2 we have from Broadway Limited. My biggest complaint is the molding lines and some of the paint bleed, but a little weathering and touch up will make it look so much better. I am spoiled with Tsunami 2 sound that we run I'm just about everything we have, so I wish there was a few more selections of whistles, bell rate, etc. But all in all I am very pleased with it and proud to have it in my collection.

The word you're trying to find is 'diaphragm,' the flexible contraption between the loco cab and tender. "Vestibule" is French for hallway, so that ain't the right word.

And the connecting rods are not "chrome-plated", nor are the wheel rims! And the rods are not fastened with slotted-head screws!
8:45 - It looks like the cab crew have walking access to the tender?
9:27, 10:33 - The later needed to be at the former, and the later needed more than one puff. No loco ever had lazy BBQ-grill smoke leaking out the stack.
16:50 - I *know* one of the mfgrs is gonna have the throttle links move and the bell-crank rotate sometime soon.
BTW, my BLI Pennsy Q2 is a visual treat.

BLI Locos are great as far as I have seen. I would never buy an HO steamer that does not smoke. That loco has fabulous detail and if I ever do buy some HO I am going to stay with BLI. Price is good with all those realistic features!!!

You must remember the original is a totally different model. The original they made 100 or so by hand. Old school brass. The new one is a hybrid and explains why the paint is so poor, the cylinders have mold lines etc.
look at the original New Haven I5 they made. It was an amazing model. But then the second run lost half of its detail. And that’s what seemed to happen here. Disappointed with BLI as they used to be one of my favorites

Hi James. I don't mean to come across as smug. but I have only bought plastic models. well nothing brass.
What makes Brass so fascinating? i have see unpainted brass.. and don't really like the looks of it.. my opinion , and most i have seen are aged,, and tarnished.
but the question i have. what makes people want the brass stuff? detail? fact it is brass? status to say look what I have?
like i said. i don't want to sound smug. but before I buy ( 0ne ) brass loco. I wish to be sold as to why i would buy it.
you have me on Facebook my friend. if you wish to answer there. chat. and remove this question from here
it does sound amazing. that is for sure.

Which video? I know from back in the day brass ran better and had higher detail. Painting was to be handled by the purchaser for the most part. Their details were also much more durable.

    • @gettonmoreorless3741
      @gettonmoreorless3741 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Brass locos are typically easier to take apart to do decoder installs. They are built to order, meaning there are loco types that will never be built in plastic. I personally just got a max gray erie k-5a Pacific that has never been made in plastic. They also typically have better detail than plastic models.
