A lot of people seem to forget that even though the 918 has a hybrid drivetrain, the gas engine is a naturally aspirated, flat-plane crank V8 with no turbos to restrict the exhaust sound. It's a fantastic engine and I wish it got more recognition.

its a pure lmp racing engine, thats what it makes so awesome. Only slightly things changed for street restriction, sound etc.
jst like the carrera gt engine that should have been an f1 engine. Sadly it didnt work out and they put in in their lmp car. Porsche had some financial problems back in the days and created the carrera gt because they had this leftover extremely expensive engine with probably the most beautiful sound and responsiveness ever in a road legal car, to make some money and get reputation. And they did lol. It all worked out for them. Today they are probably the best car manufacturer in the world.
That's a lot more work than I thought it would be. Explains why nobody has done it before.

what exactly? building fixture? thing that every smart shop would do to then recreate the thing again. To build exhaust is like 5 hours of work tops... shame they didn't mention the price because that is like 1000$ in materials depending on cat quality and few hours of work to build it but every other youtuber is saying that exhaust for exotic cost him 20k...
Real reason why is because most of people buying this million dollar car don’t wanna mess with their car so the value didn’t drop…these kinda car typically just to be collected…but now…these youtubers car enthusiast circle meeting each other and begin to influence each other to modified their cars and enjoy it more 😂

These arguments are always flawed because they assume that someone with 1 day of experience and someone with 10 years of experience will have the same final result. And should cost the same. They won't, and they shouldn't.

@@ImARealHumanPerson as you can see I'm not saying that you don't need experience for welds like this as I specified amount for material and hours of work for which I didn't specify the price, just saying it's not much work and everybody can see the process... when other youtubers say that some companies charge 20k for exhaust like this it is lots of bs as there is no research and simulation just welding some pipes together...
@@MstreetDriver prices of exhaust goes up with what these kind of cars are worth. Let's say a basic dodge which has more material used but is a fraction of a super/hypercar exhaust price. It's just name and marketing.
Sounds a lot like a 458 italia, and its a similar engine, both with flat plane v8 engines. With the exhaust now its the Porsche 458 😂

You guys, I love you. I’ve always said 918 Spyder is the best of Holy Trinity!! Revs to 9,150rpm… but no one knows because no one straight pipes them to show it off!! And 918 had bespoke V8 engine while LaFerrai and P1 both just have basic engines (out of F12 and 650s). But now you’re making these go up in price!! Hahah

@@WopJr well you get his point, it could’ve been said better but they yoinked it out of a more “generic” car in their lineup as opposed to designing bespoke motor for platform lol It was simply a more “special” and “unique” platform as others were hybrid forms of previous engine designs.

@@WopJr i think what he meant is that LaF shares the same engine as F12 which is only cost less than 25% of Laferrari's current value. You'll get the same exhaust note . Same story for P1 , it shared the same engine as MP4-12C . Where 918 's engine is unique to it's own.
I not only love the sound, I really appreciate showing the fabrication process behind these modifications showing us even more about owning and modding these cars!

Watching the exhaust come together from nothing was awesome to see, and WHAT A SOUND!!!!!!
I am usually not a an of making a exhaust louder just to be loud, but that setup makes the 918 sound like a true exotic. Should have been like that from the factory!

I knew something was different last saturday.. I expected to hear the LaF do some pulls from a few blocks away but I legitimately was sitting there in the cold with my mouth wide open for like 3 minutes hearing the noise bounce off houses from every up & downshift from the two cars. Can’t stress how excited I am to hear the p1. You guys keep doing the impossible, things I thought nobody would ever have the balls to do. Yet you do & crazy enough you’re essentially in my backyard. Keep doing the impossible, stay safe, & I hope to see you guys very soon

Honestly I've always felt like the 918 was the worst of the three, never cared for the sound, doesn't look as good as the other two etc etc. This video has changed my mind a tad..... The way it sounds now..... Fucking beautiful.... I think I finally like the 918.....

just because something is loud doesn’t mean it sounds good.. 🤦🏻🤦🏻 try a 2005 murcielago with a stage 3 capristo exhaust, now that sounds good.

But please don’t do it in the public :) it’s too loud and disturbing. There was a straight pipe GTR raving 100 times at a red light, everyone around that asshole pulled out the phone to report. It’s ear popping noisy and no one likes that kind of behavior.
please checkout my 918 upload on my page. i think its the exact same one from when it was here in georgia. did they add a size decal?? that color spec is very specific, was it bought out of chicago supercars?

As much as I love loud cars if I had a 918 I'd want a button to go back somewhere near standard noise. I'm trying to rationalise why this particular model of Porsche makes me think like this but that's where I'm at. Amazing car. But if it's unbearably loud all the time it would lose some of what made the 918 special to me.

Well. I just would change the muffler and the cats. From ceramic to metallcats. It´s everytime the same, a straight pipe is freking fuckin loud. But loud is not a good sound it´s just loud. I´m pretty sure you loose power with the straight pipe exhaust.
Cranked up the volume and my dogs ears raised high! How does one get by the State of ILL emissions and Fed EPA also noise ordinance?
I am not a huge fan of the spec on that 918. Actually, I kind of hate it to be honest. Of course, I would drive any 918 regardless of spec, and fully respect anyone's color preference. To each his own. With that out of the way, sounds amazing, well done.
Man, bad timing for this video 😂. Watch the new shmee video with the 8 into 1, equal length exhaust Boden just finished up on their 918. This sounds good but, I just don't think it's on the same level as Boden
I wonder if any will capable to change the AMG ONE exhaust system later on 🤣 because AMG ONE exhaust system is kinda essential to getting the car to live

@@HochmanFabricationAndSpeed never one to go off videos and boden only went up to 4K and didn’t hear a driving clip but considering you guys did it in a week and it’s been at boden for months I would say it was 2 different task bc they 3D printed a collector and made equal length but yours was just as nice weld wise . I’m a welder so I can appreciate both . Congrats to you

Sounds amazing regardless though. Should look into getting everything inconel wrapped like the factory set up. There's a company out there that does form fitting set up and looks really nice.

I’m not for US, so have to ask. Isn’t it illegal to have so loud road vehicle ? For sure you would get fine in EU for something like that. Also, that would angry a lot of people who don’t want to be bothered by some extremely loud car.
