  • How to install an electronic distributor or electronic ignition in VW 1600 engine.
    I am not a licensed mechanic, this video is made for fun. Video features my first attempt of installing an electronic distributor in a VW boxer engine. I hope you find this information useful, but will not take any responsibility for anything which happens to you, or others cars while using this video.
    This is one of many videos I plan on making throughout my restoration of this 1969 VW Beetle aka, a Bug.

    Hey bro keep it up 👍 it’s cool to see someone willing to learn how to work on their own VW rather than pay someone. These cars are really fun if you learn how to keep them going 👍

    The horrible noise between talking spoiled this

    Hey mate, please, get your fuel filter away from that coil, or buy some of these Blaze Cut things, but do something so it won't turn into a big fire ball!

      Thanks for the heads up! Indeed I have already moved it. That would make for a pretty boring video though :P

    U never showed how to connect the distributor on the coil

    • @whatsstefon
      @whatsstefon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      BEARDED G connecting the distributor to the coil can only go one way. There is literally no other way to connect them. The short HT lead goes from the only spot on the coil it can fit, to the centre of the dizzy.

    Always static time the new distributor before trying to start the engine. Will save a bunch of frustration. Ask me how I know.

    Get rid of the chrome tin on the motor, it reflects the heat back to the motor unfortunately

      Hey! Thanks for the feedback I always figured that was the case. So far the car hasn't overheated since I sealed up engine compartment properly.

    Nice video but your music is to loud have to keep turning it down and then up again when you talk so after 4.07 just shut it off. It's a shame

    I see that you didn't have the car any longer but was that the EMPI 009 9441-B electronic ignition that you installed?

    • @ChrisNCars
      @ChrisNCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Barbara Todd that’s the one! Bosch makes one half the price, PerTronix makes a nice one but is more pricey then Empi.

    I’m attempting to get this done correctly on my 70, and the one thing I’m confused about is you repeatedly say “point the rotor at #1” while it appears the rotor is pointing at the 6 o’ clock area, not at #1. Why is that?

    • @ChrisNCars
      @ChrisNCars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jaison edwards thanks for the comment. What I mean by rotor pointing to 1 is, piston #1 area. with #1 piston pushed all the way up “top dead center” the rotor should be facing the 5-6 o’clock position. The timing notch on belt pulley should also be facing up, or at 12 o’clock ish position.

    Hey man what coil are you using? Here in México can't find the blue Bosh, I have a blue Beru ZS 172 but not shure it's fine. Can't buy a pertronix right now. Thanks

    • @ChrisNCars
      @ChrisNCars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      isauro hernandez thanks for the comment. I am using a Bosh. If you are switching to electronic ignition you will need higher voltage coil.

    • @ChrisNCars
      @ChrisNCars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are buying at Auto Zone i would give it a try and return if it doesn't work. Otherwise I would go for a 3 ohm.
