in my head I was thinking this is how Elvis gets me but I realize she was talking about him but now listening to it again time It’s makes sense. Sometimes hearing something for the first time I miss it but I’m glad everyone showed me because listening again made me see it in a different light and I like the song even more
I have one more song for you and the name of it is I'll see you at the crossroads It Is by bones Thugs and Harmony I came across the song years ago and I just thought that it was awesome but with that note I will leave you alone you have a great day or evening whichever it may be take care be careful
This is one of the best tributes to Elvis ever made! It captures his spirit & his unique soulful sound as it describes how much that"little boy smile" affected those who love him! A haunting voice like Alannah Myles' conveys the message beautifully!
Yeah I am glad that a new generation gets to appreciate Alannah Myles...This was her most famous song and it was written at an Elvis memorial 10 years after he died. The words BLACK VELVET signified his picture being painted on a Black velvet canvas everywhere at the time ; and his hair dye colour was called Black Velvet...many of the references were to how he spanned black music and was "the new religion" in music i.e. rock and roll. There were numerous other things in the song that were completely about him and how he brought black music to the White audiences etc. etc. This is such a significantly important song far beyond just its musical importance. It is a social commentary, far ahead of its time sung by a Canadian Woman from Toronto!!!!
Like everyone said it's about Elvis. White lighting in a flash he was gone to soon. Love me tender his first movie left you crying in the isles. My favorite tribute song to my boyfriend Elvis Presley 🥰
She was amazing and I wish more than a one hit wonder. She had so much love for Elvis that she wrote a entire song about him. Elvis was amazing, and a awesome person to look up to! Long Live Elvis Presley. #elvis
Went to her concert a few years ago. It was outdoors and it rained the whole show but no one left because we all knew she was holding this song for last. Gottta say it was worth the wait. Sounded as good as ever after all these years.
So pleased you got to this song Many songs have been about Elvis but this one takes the cake Just really love it and knew you would to , hope it takes off and gets watched by many more reacters
It can be 3 generations from now and Elvis' name and legend will remain. The man was a phenom. He had that crazy stellar quality about him. To this day people worldwide know who he is, even in Japan they dress up like him and pay tribute to him with covers and Elvis themed bars and restaurants. The man is still beloved worldwide! This has to be the greatest tribute to The King that has been made. Christopher Ward and David Tyson wrote it and Myles recorded it....couldn't have been a better combination. She just brings that song to the soul. RIP Mr. Elvis Presley!
This was such a great song, I have it in my playlist with Elvis so I know it will play afterwords. All the clues ( song title , the Caddy, the small house, love me tender line, etc. ) you know what the song is saying and of whom.
Elvis was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, which she mentions, though many people just connect him with Memphis. There's a terrific song by a man named Mark Cohn who sang "Walking in Memphis," and it's about a fan stopping in Memphis in the rain and visiting the haunts where Elvis lived, with a scene or two from Graceland. Get the official version in this case....Mark Cohn, Walking in Memphis. i am in love with that song.
I’m a bass guitar player & I freaked over this songs bass line, so I looked it up to learn how to play it & I was bummed when I read that the bass line riff in the song was played on a synthesizer using a fret less bass guitar sample. But I learned it anyway, good pick for a reaction Jayy. 🎶💕😎🤘✌️👍
This song and the tone of her voice without doing much already is amazing and then she goes and does ALL THAT at the end of the song and it just ends you. 😅 I love this song
This song hit number 1 on U.S. Billboard and won awards in Canada and the U.S. including a Grammy. Alannah is one of those artists you won't see as many reactions from because she's Canadian and not a part of the U.S. mainstream so it was thrilling to see you react to her. She had great pipes. She's also someone with other songs worth a reaction like: 1. Love is 2. Lover of mine. (I'm confident you'd love this one) 3. Still got this thing. 4. Song Instead of a Kiss And other great stuff. I do have to thank you for this one for another reason. I'm just barely old enough to have seen some Elvis when he was alive and I had this Album. I've seen LOTS of Elvis stuff on Black Velvet. I NEVER connected this song to Elvis. It just blows my mind how I could have missed that.
In Canada this song of course got a lot of airplay so my recollections of it are aural and not visual. The video to me has a country vibe, but aurally I thought it was harder rock. As posted above "Love Is" is kind of a cool, quirky, different song.
@@jethro1963 yeah, I'm in Winnipeg and 49 years old.... iRemember both all the Air Play + a buddy of mine that had this Cassette in his Truck for like 3 years straight..... Do you think Jayy would enjoy The Hip?

I really like the steady stream of the bass throughout this song. It adds a new dimension to the song and it contrasts beautifully with Alanna. Thanks for doing this song by Alanna. Been far too long since I last listened to it.
Love her voice, she was one of the first Canadian acts that I remember hearing (that I was aware was Canadian), Bryan Adams came after this (for me, but loved his Run To You)
We have so many great Canadian artists. sadly, some of them put out great songs and they never get the recognition they deserve. one of my favorite Canadian songs is Luba, Everytime I see your picture. Luba wrote it for her dad when he passed. you should check it out
As a Canadian growing up during the time this song was popular It was shoved down our throats by CanCon (canadian content laws) and was played over and over again. It was really great the first dozen or so times we heard it :)
In addition to being an allusion to the cheap black velvet canvas paintings that could be bought on every street corner in Memphis in the 70’s, ‘Black Velvet’ was a popular cheap whiskey that was sold in not so spectacular liquor stores. That’s why she says ‘Black Velvet, if you please’.

‘Love Me Tender’ was the first movie Elvis appeared in - it was God-awful! He died in the film and girls nearly tore down theatres over it. They never allowed him be killed in another movie. I adore this song and her voice is so very sexy.
Black Velvet is one of those songs in the category of "one hit wonders". The song pays homage to "The King", the great Elvis Presley. Another one hit wonder you may enjoy is by Hurricane Smith/Oh, Babe, What Would You Say from the early 70's.
When you have another Top 40 in the States, and receive a 2nd Grammy Award, as well as having songs be 21 World Wide Top 30's , and 14 Top 10 Rankings, one hit wonder might be a tad misleading.

Elvis used Black Velvet hair dye.. and the black velvet Elvis paintings

The song is a paean to Elvis Presley - whose portrait was often painted on black velvet, and who used a hair dye named Black Velvet.
This was about Elvis...thats the reason for the "Love Me Tender" reference....
Her voice has a wide, dynamic & expressive range. Everything about Myles is fiery & intense.❤
Black Velvet is a metaphor for Elvis’ voice and all the lyrics are about Elvis life
And all the portraits of him painted on black velvet.
Also Elvis used a hair dye named Black Velvet.
Yes and the "new religion" is rock-n-roll!
"Love me tender" need I say more?
The 2 places Mississippi and Memphis were where he was born and were he called home.
