THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I just got my 4423 machine, and in making a dress, I have had to rip out so many stitiches because the thing takes off like a rocket and I can't guide the seams well at all, especially on curves. This will make such a difference! I had no idea there was a way to change the speed. I just googled the problem and your video popped up. This is going to make sewing SO much better for me. Thanks again!

I have the 4452 model and this was SO helpful, THANK YOU! I was borderline scared and it used to be a painfully slow process of me easing pressure into the pedal because of how fast it’d take off. I adjusted mine to the between 6 and 7 position and now it’s perfect for me!

I would give this video 100 thumbs up if I could. Got myself a Singer Heavy Duty recently and, although I like the machine, I was struggling with the fact that it seems to go from 0 to 100 mph with nothing in between. I'm what you might call an "experienced novice" so the ability to go slowly is important to me. In fact, given that what takes time in sewing is not the sewing itself but the measuring, cutting, pinning and ironing, I'm not sure why any home sewist really needs the ability to sew quickly. Anyway, it took me about 30 seconds to take the pedal apart, fiddle with the thingy to get the needle at the speed I want it, and put it back together. Thanks so much Kevin, you've made my day. BTW mine is a European version.

We ordered the 4423 model from us, which initially came with us outlet; in addition, we bought an eu outlet adapter, and as you might assume it was running so fast. I did try to lower the speed in the pedal as shown on the video, but no luck unfortunately.
However, I thought that maybe the problem was with that eu adapter we bought, so after receiving the European version of the pedal the issue was resolved, I still needed to lower the speed in the pedal, but at least it allowed me to set the needed one. I hope it is helpful for someone in the future.

The US Energy grind operates on a different frequency. Probably not a good idea to import a product like this. Nothing in the foot pedal will shift the frequency.
You don't need to pop the pedal open anymore since they have an access screw now but I had to take a look. Looks like they only changed the component placement and added an access hole to the potentiometer.

Fortunately there's an extra little hole on the back of mine, to adjust that dial without dismantling. So check for that first folks, as you may be in luck!

Thank you so much for this video! My 2006 mechanical Kenmore has similar parts inside the pedal. Not just like it, but enough to recognize some of the parts and what you were doing. So I fiddled with the screw thing and turned it to 6 o'clock. That little white roller thing had to be positioned behind a pyramid-shaped wedge in order to be able to push the pedal down. So I had to use a butter knife to keep it positioned behind the wedge as I was closing the case. I did not have my machine plugged into the electrical outlet while I was working on it. I was too nervous to do so. But guess what? I plugged it back in, turned it on and it worked! Thanks!

Remember that this is fully analog system. The adjustment position that works in one machine may or may not work in another. Just go through full range with small adjustments and try every position to figure out the correct setting for your machine.
It's a bit slow process which is why the factory may be skipping proper adjustment and actual behaviour out of box depends on your luck.

Not all the included speed controls are built with that adjustment pot. There are many externally identical versions that are built with slightly different circuit versions inside, without including that adjustment control. It depends on which of their suppliers built the speed control for them at that time. The individual machines can get smoother running and easier to start up as the machines eventually wear in, as some are initially built pretty tight and clunky from the factory.

I have bought a new Singer 411 european version in Italy(220/240V). There is a difference compared with your version: inside the pedal there is a silver screw, that is slightly on the right of the screws you adjust in the video. When you turn the screw counterclockwise the engine slows down. Perfect sewing machine.
