This is beautiful. If anyone is interested in Todd May or just philosophy in general, you may like the show The Good Place. He assisted the writers on it.

Another way that I think is useful to not be overwhelmed by Trump and other authoritarian people comes from psychoanalysis (“Freud and Beyond” is an excellent overview for the subject). I realize Trump (and other authoritarian people) very likely did not have a healthy interpersonal environment growing up. This contributes to a cumulative trauma for the person and causes the person to desperately seek power in their life. My realization of this helps me to be much less overwhelmed, and better dedicated to political and ethical projects for humanity.

I’m guessing that May is aware of this, but the doctrine of non-violent resistance was discussed by Leo Tolstoy. Who then in-turn influenced Ghadhi and MLK (and Thoreau and others).

His point about the value of looking at people is one of the disasters of online education, which of course, has been mandated by the pandemic. Online education is anonymous. It is funny when one realizes that everything dated before the pandemic now requires itself to be read through the pandemic, and makes one appear either prophetic or foolish.
