Greatest thing about this band is Ben Carr, official member that just dances on stage for every show.

The Bosstones officially hung it up recently. I absolutely recommend reacting to more of their stuff! The Rascal King is a great one.

Ska makes me miss Warped Tour! One moment you're in a circle pit watching Asking Alexandria or BMTH, next you're chilling in the pavilion watching Mighty Mighty Bosstones or Big D & the Kid's Table. It's impossible to listen to ska and not be in a good mood.

My all-time favorite ska band, the originators of Ska-Core, retired leaving us wanting more, legends, & absolute "GOAT" status!

Can we just give a shout out to the bass player on this song? To play a busy part at this tempo that still locks in and grooves is incredible. Mad props to that rhythm section! 👌

This song is an excellent example of not needing to have a wide vocal range to write cool vocal lines. The singer maybe has a one octave range, but that chorus is so damn hooky

Mightly Mighty Bosstones were probably the first band besides Less Than Jake that got my attention to get me into Ska. I really wasn't that into the band that much, but this song caught my attention.

i miss ska so hard. girl at work was talking with me and i jokingly pronounced beyonce "bey once". she got a little pissy and asked what music i liked then, i said ska. she asked what ska was, i said it was white reggae (she was black) and played her no doubt. she asked 'gwen stefani?' i said 'yeah, it's b-a-n-a-n-a-s'

Yea I agree with him the chorus is what made it big and way they're singing it rough... imagine if he was singing that like softer voice it wouldn't hit as hard.. And the guitar slides to it ppl just like catchy music doesn't matter if it's ska or punk or rap or Taylor swift. It's like I GET KNOCKED DOWN BUT I GET UP AGAIN YA NEVER GONNA KEEP ME DOWN the chorus is just so inspiring so infectious you just can't help but find yourself singing along

They all wear suits because that is how the 60s Jamaican musicians dressed, it all derives from Jamaica except the punk elements. You Should check out Someday I Suppose by The Bosstones. Saw them a few times, a very fun band to see live.

must have been 2013 'cuz she died in 2014
was staying with a friend for a couple months. myself, him, and his wife would drink to excess every night, and one night I get the little lyric "that's the impression that I get" stuck in my head hard. It's all I can think about. My phone doesn't have service, we haven't paid for wifi, so I can't listen to the song and get it out of my system, and for two hours i just respond to things with "...well, that's just the impression that I get" and she gets so fucking sick of it, slams the fridge door in a way that a shelf drops and the pickle jar breaks. Kitchen smelled like vinegar for a day. at least, that's the impression that I get.

The only reason I know this song is because it was used in the original Digimon movie.

The thing about ska to me is that in a general sense its about juxtaposing an upbeat melody with generally depressing lyrics (i believe this song was referencing the AIDS epidemic), ive always seen the main message as "it's not right, but that's alright", basically a message of perseverance.

    Okay, you've got me --
Please, why is it mandatory for a trombone player to be in the band for the sound to come out right? Is it something about the range or pitch?
Unfortunately, I'm a self-taught string player, so I missed a lot of context in a traditional music education sitting

    • @MasterRahl221
      @MasterRahl221 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's not actually mandatory but the timbre of s trombone is great, and the frequencies it occupies fit in well with guitar/bass/vocals

Interesting how musical genres develop and the mighty Bosstones are described as Ska Punk.
I just listened to this song for the first time and couldn’t really identify in the music any reggae/ rocksteady or Ska influences that I identify from the sixties like Desmond Decker or the 2 tone Ska from the late 70/early 80’s.
If I’m honest, this track didn’t really resonate with me , but I have no doubt that it would appeal to others There seem to be definitely influenced by The Clash , songs like Rudi definitely have that same vibe and a bit of swing music rather than ska but that is just my criticism of the genre and not a criticism of the band who I don’t know and haven’t heard any of their other material. Perhaps someone who knows their music might suggest some other tracks

I'd be interested to see you react to the Flatbush Zombies. They're a rap group based out of Brooklyn and are fucking talented. Headstone is a great track because of all the references to past hip hop, Crown ft Portugal the Man is a great one for people that are new to the zombies as it's a bit easier and not as hard/dark. U&I is another great one for new people. Glorious Thugs is awesome because it's a remake/tribute to Notorious Thugs by Biggie and Bone Thugs. One of the members of Flatbush (Erick the Architect) produces most of the beats for the songs and he remade the entire Notorious Thugs beat from scratch for their version.
