    A smart little mod, adding BWACK's C64Saver module. I know he's been a very busy boy recently and has stopped making the newer version C64Saver for the time being, but I have reached out to him regarding the original prototype design that you use in the video. I've been thinking recently that I would like to make these myself, as well. I'll see what he says and keep you posted.

      Thanks =D Yes, his little boards are awesome and could be used in many place imo. I want another one for the CPC I think, and a couple of Lynxes and GameGears (to fit internally).

    I like how you apply Hans' design to stuff he may not have thought about.

    I have memories of one of these also. When I was a lad I had the green screen monitor. I heard this was being released so I went into Tandy and ordered one. I waited 3 months with a no show, so I got my money back. I never got one in the end.

      Well you weren't missing much back then as RF was pants lol.

      GadgetUK164 - Retro Gaming Repairs & Mods it would of been better than a green screen monitor tho. Hahahah

    Nice refurb Chris, that PSU is as good as new. Brilliant idea using one of bwack's power saver boards inside the PSU, you should put one of them inside the CPC as well it will be bulletproof then.

      Thanks =D I plan on sticking one in the CPC too I think. Just need to hope bwack can provide a few more!

    I had the MP1 Modulator im sure ive still got the original box somewhere, used it for playing Amstrad on my CRT TV years ago as i did not have the monitor for a while

    I had the rf modulator back in the day, a mate had the green screen monitor which was a bit pants tbh.

    Nice. Hopefully Bwack will make some more of those gizmos soon. I would definitely buy a few. I nearly got caught out on a cpc128 when using it with a TV. It needs a 5v for the cpc and a separate 12v jack for the integral disc drive which it is supposed to get from the monitor. The centre pin on the 5v is positive but the centre pin of the 12v is negative ! Just something to watch out for. I modded the cable to make it impossible to back-volt it accidentally and stuck a sticker on the cable!

      Thx =D Yes, they are great little boards! I hope he can sell just the PCB for other applications like this. Ouch at that disk drive PSU connector - that's one reason why I think I might stick a saver PCB inside the CPC as well, just in case I accidentally grab the wrong connector and think its 5v...

    I thought there would be a bit more technology in there but it seems to do the trick. I'd like to get hold of bwacks power saver it's a good piece of kit and protects your retro machines. Nice vid Chris 😁😋🙂........Kim 😋

    I cant remember if my MP1 handled sound as well, but I could understand why Amstrad wouldnt want to feed the audio through the RF line, introducing noise to the picture, not when the cpc has an onboard speaker anyway. Makes sense to me.

      I will take a look inside the modulator can tomorrow, there might be a few caps in there that I missed. Will update a short update if I do.

    "Sweet!" - GadgetUK164 2018
    Modulator looks a bit of a messy output, wonder if that needs recapping, not that you care xD

    • @GadgetUK164
      @GadgetUK164  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL - that was AFTER recapping! I recapped the modulator! Although, there might be a cap inside the can I guess.

    • @refractionpcsx2
      @refractionpcsx2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that's what I meant, the caps inside the can xD

      There’s definitely a cap inside the modulator can in the c64.

    Modulator does not handle sound. Sound will come from the CPC internal speaker as normally.

    • @GadgetUK164
      @GadgetUK164  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, surprised Amstrad didn't do that! But then again, I guess the original design was for the speaker to provide the sound.

    I always hated RF even bitd it seemed thoroughly terrible, other than having no AV-In to speak of on early TVs it never made much sense going forward with all the devices that came up in the 80s. At least coaxial was easier than screw forks.
    Pretty scary how the old PSU can take out a whole system, is that all of them, NTSC regions included?

    • @GadgetUK164
      @GadgetUK164  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, RF was always pants lol =D I am not sure if there was an NTSC Amstrad CPC? There may be? The main issue is the CPC doesn't have a regulator or any over voltage protection (and I think no reverse polarity protection either). I will do both of these fixes to the CPC too I think - just in case the wrong PSU is connected.

    • @loganjorgensen
      @loganjorgensen 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh my mistake, I must have been thinking of the C64 PSU. Yeah no NTSC CPC model, probably would have been incompatible with the EU software anyway heh.

    could you mod this for composite rather then rf

    • @GadgetUK164
      @GadgetUK164  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that would be possible! Just a case of working out where the composite signal is, perhaps amplify it with a 2N3904 and it should work!
