- In this video, we examine the two theories of state recognition: constitutive and declaratory. According to the former, recognition of a new state entity by the existing states is a prerequisite for statehood. The latter theory, on the other hand, provides that state recognition is merely a declaration (as follows from its title) and thus is optional.
