- Finally got the chance to install my DIY Battery & Orient Power Hybrid 5.5kw inverter in a location where its creation can be used to the fullest, Don't know if you can tell but I'm crazy excited - at the time of upload about 280 kWh has been produced and looking forward to 10000s more hours of full-time use!

Based on your videos I processed over 3000 18650s from mainly laptop batteries to build a power wall. Then I suddenly had to move back to Australia and had to offload my three years of processing. I was gutted. Seeing your mega unit finally installed makes it ok though. Nice job!
hope they went to a good home not a recycler *sorry for your loss :P I'm SO happy its done, It seems simple to some making stuff neat and well layed out but for me it's a proper process.

Well done, mate, the drive looks like my drive for solar panels. Cheap than other batteries, just a lot of time. You need RCDs in the box, too, for safety.
that 20amp one is an RCD, I wanted one on each breaker as they will all do different things but what do I know I just fix computers :P

it was interesting to watch your powerwall build all those years ago . do you have any regrets with all the time it took ? or was it a good hobby?
Its funny, regrets would be the sheer time it took, but that was usually quickly washed away by the joy i got from all the comments and interactions, just wish youtube would show me some love so I could afford to keep making cool projects. Hate making videos for videos sake, always preferred to make something useful.
I've followed along for quite some time on your builds. It's fun for us as well to see that battery pack being put to good use. Congratulations!

it's how I roll, none of the thinking first crap :P Out there you have to be much more aware of the King Brown snakes, Red Belly snakes, drop bears etc :P
This should power easy a AC in that shed, moisture and a little temp regulation.
I'm kinda starting to think for the cost it would take care of the batteries well & ROI on that alone would be worth it. Thinking I'll try something more passive for the short term.

Might pull the old system back to my workshop, retest the capacity after a few years of full time use. Then it'll go back into service else where on the property ( HOPING a tiny house or cabin)
@@HBPowerwall Sounds great! Mine batteries finally let out after many years so I'm on the hunt for some new ones in the next few months. Still have the hybrid 48v inverter mpp solar inverter that I never got around to installing..... Too many projects!

Maybe put a roof fan in from bunning mate, too. Peter not judging you, just suggestion for complaint here in Australia.
love to put a small solar roof vent in, just something to change the air, in summer door stays open and there is the ol' Bunnings 15 dollar fan that just blows on the old inverter/batterys for 4-5 months a year - cheap easy solution that seems to have worked perfectly

Ya need to ventilate that room, or add some insulation and a solar powered ac to keep your electronics and batteries at a more reasonable temp and maybe humidity down.
this has all been considered, so far I don't think insulation is the direction, maybe just a simple solar vent in the roof and a vent in the floor to draw colder air from under the building is the way to go

Everyone states they don't need active balancers and then installs and uses them. They are great for DIY batteries and by using a switch or automation keep your DIY batteries balanced and improve their capacity. You should put regeneratable desiccant bags in that battery cabinet or it will corrode like the last one did. Insanity is repeating your mistakes and expecting a different result.
Being a more sealed box so to speak it's doing much better, active balancer is 100 % controled by my Batrium BMS - so far working very very well..

Old ones were advertised as pure nickel strip. Turns out they were not.

For the BMS it's a Batrium Watchmon 5 - to display on the pc it's Batrium Watchmon Tool Kit, for the inverter it's SolarPower I believe - i'll go to the office and post some links for you

How many cells Pete, and average capacity? By my calculation, about 2,744 @ 2.5Ah. Where can I get a copy of the latest AU Standards for DIY battery systems?
there are 2,674 connected cells, 3 cells removed from each battery for top mounting hole, then another three cells top and bottom where the mount contacts the battery are disconnected to prevent earth leaks to ground. The tested completed batteries with 191 connected cells mathed out to be an average of 2600mah

@@HBPowerwall thanks. Have heard about “nickel-plated” strip - either sold cheaper than the 75+ US$ per kilo I’ve seen it cost, or - I’ll bet - being sold as pure nickel, at the full nickel price!
Have wondered about using nickel wire as a “sorta-fuse” that is then soldered to tin-plated copper (plated onto PCB material to ~ 8-9 oz. thickness, .3mm thick or so) “bus bar”???

I'm surprised you are still using Li Ion cells rather than the safer LFP. I guess that is why its all in a standalone shed. It'd be nice to know your thinking on this.

Pretty amazing considering they sat for so long without use. Just goes to show with proper set up and storage and cells, they can last a long time
I maintained them the same I do with all my cells, regular checks and had a panel trickle charging it 99% of the time.

great progress and the crappy laptop batteries served 5 more years - I bet by average twice the life time than usual if those cells had been working 4 years before in those laptops.
And you spent a lot I guess for the 3 or 4 HAGER circuit breakers - usually made in germany.
The MG should work fine with all the power you can provide all year long - it is a partially VW cause MG's mother company is partially owned by VW producing all the VW in China for chinese market which most people tend to forget. They should be able to deliver the VW quality but have not achieved it yet at least the MG4 that has arrived here in 2022 was good but not at the level of VW, even though it was using VW parts if you look closely.
I hope the car will pay off soon with the gas savings you no longer have to spend.
Great job, big success in my opinion if you look back from where you had started: crap 18650 cells
which you put together to a battery, than an even bigger one and far bigger one. I still wonder if the 5 kW inverter is not too small for your demand and battery but you are in an offgrid situation which is quite the opposite one we usually have in our grid tied situation. Your battery is simply bigger to be better prepared and therefore the inverter now looks so small.
Average load is only 200-300 watts so I don't think the idol load usage would be worth having a second.. wasn't that much for the breakers and stuff, I bought the energy meter from ebay, trying to save some money.
When I was 20years old I had a mini like yours....it was 37years back.....and I lost it from the burglars of Greece Greek THIEVES fraudulent civil servants of the Greek Ministry of Transport

ooh you have no idea how much I need to move, but got to stay where the money is made unfortunately. I could video every day out there, so much that needs doing and can be done.. Wishlist - DIY stone cabin, find a freshwater sorce (very hard, if not impossible out there.) A honey shack where I can process honey! hehe But it's my buddies place so all pipe dreams
