"O Jesus, My Savior" (old melody, arranged) from the Primitive Baptist Hymnal (#94) in Cades Cove Primitive Baptist Church, Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
O Jesus, my Savior, I know thou art mine,
For thee all the pleasures of sin I resign;
Of objects most pleasing, I love thee the best,
Without thee I'm wretched, but with thee I'm blest.
The Spirit first taught me to know I was blind,
Then taught me the way of salvation to find;
And when I was sinking in gloomy despair,
Thy mercy relieved me, and bid me not fear.
In vain I attempt to describe what I feel,
The language of mortals or angels would fail;
My Jesus is precious, my soul's in a flame,
I'm raised to a rapture while praising his name.
I find him in singing, I find him in prayer,
In sweet meditation he always is near;
My constant companion, O may we ne'er part!
All glory to Jesus, he dwells in my heart.
I love thee, my Savior, I love thee, my Lord,
I love thy dear people, thy ways, and thy word;
With tender emotion I love sinners too,
Since Jesus has died to redeem them from woe.
My Jesus is precious--I cannot forbear,
Though sinners despise me, his love to declare;
His love overwhelms me; had I wings I'd fly
To praise him in mansions prepared in the sky.
Then millions of ages my soul would employ
In praising my Jesus, my love and my joy
Without interruption, when all the glad throng
With pleasures unceasing unite in the song. - เพลง
This music is food for the soul.
I grew up primitive Baptist, my family going back 8 generations. This song connects very deeply with my people.
I'm Catholic, and it connects with me, too!
I am a Primitive Baptist and hadn't heard this old Baptist hymn sung in a while. l cried when I heard it
Mr. Roark - what association and church are you a part of sir? I grew up with them in the SE.
I'm PB, too in WNC! Where are you located?
@@jenniferblalock9346 I'm a member of MT. Carmel Primitive Baptist in Belair MD.

Thanks for this!! I was about to go see if I could find the lyrics somewhere
Thank you for the beautiful lyrics💗🕇
Growing up with the Harp of Ages, we called this “the other tune”. It has always been my favorite hymn. Brother Bryce worked hard to translate the melody from ear to paper. I could listen to this every day.
I have fond memories of my Primitive Baptist grandmother singing the sacred harp music when I was a child. No other hymn style has ever moved me like this.
I was led here to hear this beautiful song. King Jesus knew that my heart needed to hear such pure, beautiful music of adoration to Him....just Him. If love has a sound. ...this must be it. Truly. 💝💝💝💝🎆💝💝💝💝
Has to be like what the singing in heaven sounds like
incredible
Hard To beat Perfection
God...so beautiful, it hurts. Have to hear it once a month, at least.
Me, too.
I want this played at my funeral. It has captured me completely, wholly - in every respect, in all respects. AMEN!
Amen.

I discovered this music this morning and it rushed onto me so violently I spit out my coffee.
So beautiful, thank you :)
Beautiful song. I love singing that at my church here in Mississippi. Thx for sharing this...
God bless all of you!!!!
Bless your precious hearts for keeping the true Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ alive in the face of overwhelming opposition to the real Holy Spirit. Oh, that every soul on earth could know the beauty of the Holy spirit sent through Jesus Christ. Just ask for it. Its given freely.
Wonderful singing. Thank you! I'm ecstatic that there's singing going on in that building...better than any cathedral.
YES!!
My ancestor was Elijah Oliver. 💚
(He was a member and deacon for 37 years in that very church!)
The human voice is a miracle. God bless all of you!
I love this song but the shape note harmonies are so beautiful. I play this for myself regularly and get such blessings ❤
Thanks, Singers, for posting this absolutely beautiful song.
I've sang this song many times but I love this shape note harmony. I saved this so I can hear it over and over. Thanks for the recording and the blessing 🙌
Where have you sung this song, Jane? And was it from a hymnal?
Hi, Sheila! We're singing out of the Primitive Baptist Hymnal, 2nd edition. The tune is an harmonized arrangement of a very old melody.
I have been a Primitive Baptist all my life, this is one of my favorite Old School Baptist Hymn, its really a nice hymn and these young folks really do it justice. I would love to get a copy on CD.
Praise His Name! Thank you, young singers. I hope to meet you all some day, if not in Cades Cove, then on the Golden Streets.
That church is a great place for music and sound accoustic
What a beautiful way to worship Jesus Christ, the Son. God the Father is delighted.
Still one of my fave sacred harmonies
I like this one.
These singers and this building, just magic. I hope you have more of these videos man!

Primitive Baptist from Oklahoma. Went to Cades Cove as a child. I can remember singing Amazing Grace in is Church
Thank you for posting and putting words in the description box!
"O Yahusha, my Savior, I know Thou art mine. For Thee all the pleasures of sin I resign.
Of objects most pleasing, I Love Thee the best. Without Thee I'm wretched, but with Thee I'm Blest."
I long to be with Jesus
Amid the heavenly throng
To sing with saints His praises,
To learn the angels' song.

Wow. Just.. wow.
I am a member of the Mt Carmel Primitive Baptist church in Belair M.D.
I am not usually a fan of this kind of religious hymns, but this was very well done. For me, I normally prefer pipe organ music. Having that said, the music was very moving indeed. Beautiful melodies....
The basic melody (of unknown origin) was heard by two separate composers (slightly differently) and harmonized/arranged resulting in both the tune above and also "Symyadda."
Beautiful!
This is amazing.
Great singing. Glory to God. Thanks for posting.
so beautifully pure!
Many blessings to you. Thank you so much for sharing your praise.
Beautifully sung.
Touches my soul..
Beautiful sounds angelic.
this music is beautiful
Amazing and beautiful. Our church uses the same books, and I had no idea that song was in it! Thanks for the 6 minutes of joy, brother.

Soundz really awsome
Glory!
Where perfection is, there too is reality.
😭
the song is in the blue book, yes. if you're still looking for it, there is a song called "O Jesus, I Know Thou Art Mine, w/ same words and tune. pretty sure that's in the blue book
Wow
You guys sound really good

This old Primitive Baptist hymn is in the blue Primitive Baptist hymnal. It was written around 1820, the young man who wrote it wrote it while on his death bed from what I've read.
Amazing rendition of this song! We sing it from Christian Harmony in Sacred Harp.
Which version of CH is it in? It doesn't seem to be in my copy..
MrRandomPerson Unless it's in a 1901 edition (or a 1950's reprint) or 1866 edition I'm not sure what he's referring to. As for The Sacred Harp, these words are set to the tune Expression (125).
@@SilverHandel I honestly wish I could remember that far back, but it's not titled "oh Jesus my saviour" in CH.
Thanks for the replies!
I checked out the new recording from the update link. More incredible music from this group, but I prefer this version of "O Jesus, My Saviour."
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, the other one is a major harmonization and this is a minor one.
@@monologtube I got some person on fiver to transcribe this for piano. It's so beautiful. Also, thanks for the bandcamp recording. I couldn't drop 10 bucks on it fast enough.
Not quite the version I've always heard (sung in north Alabama), but still beautiful.
An arrangement for this tune, which name is "Symyadda", can be found on the bottom of p. 429 in the shape-note songbook The Shenandoah Harmony: www.shenandoahharmony.com/
+Zack Lindahl
Thank you for that info. Interesting that Judy Hauff had a hand in the music. I've been listening to 90 Hermit - Missouri Harmony for half of today.
Reminds me of sacred chant. Heck, this basically is sacred chant.
It's related to Symyadda (two-part harmony) in the Shenandoah Harmony
All of this music speaks to me only of love, not dogma, with other words it would still be the same love.
I love this arrangement. Could you post the full publication information for the hymnal it's in?
Wonderful arrangement and lovely singing! So refreshing to NOT have layers of electronic instruments and percussion. Is this an ancient repetition of a contemporary truth for the singers?
Finally, several years later, I've found the tune they're singing here. It's called "Symyadda", and it's in the Shenandoah Harmony. Interesting it just says "Sand Mountain traditional, arranged 1998", but this doesn't look like the ShH they are using. Maybe it's in the Christian Harmony also. The lyrics they are singing are most popularly associated with the song "Imandra", which is also in the SsH, but I prefer this version better.
Hello! Another Primitive Baptist here. :) The arrangement they're singing is in the second edition of the Primitive Baptist Hymnal. An elder of our denomination who's a choir director in his secular job wrote the harmony based off the melody.
Beautiful indeed ! Does anyone have the score of this song ?
In our songbook we do.
Beautiful! I would love to know what book you are singing out of.
Lovely. Is the tune a variant of "Imandra" (Southern Harmony p. 134, Shenandoah Harmony p. 40, etc.)?
Do you have sheet music for this arrangement that a person could get somewhere? (I have the Shenandoah Harmony, I just really like the harmony in this one.)
Alec Jenkins-White They're singing from the Primitive Baptist Hymnal, 2nd Edition. Elder Bryce Lowrance wrote this arrangement.
jbookworm Is there a chance you could post (or privately message) this arrangement? It's wonderful.
Could I have a copy as well please?
Email invisiblegardener at gmail dot com.
Logan, I'm interested in using this music as a sample. Would you guys mind?

Where can I get the sheet music for this anthem? It must be public domain.
+Germán Villarroel Segundo This arrangement is recent, not public domain. Email invisiblegardener at Gmail.
+edisonstalkingmachin Thank you for the tip!
Which version of the PB Hymnal does this occur in? I have two editions, and it is not in either one. The words are in one edition, but to a different tune. The tune reminds me a lot of Villulia" (SH 56b), but it's not the same. Perhaps you can tell us what the tune title is?
This tune is #94 in the 2nd ed., the blue book. It's an oral tradition tune, no title.
Thanks!
John Bayer (the much-liked Dayton, OH singer who just died a couple months ago) also arranged this tune in two parts in Shenandoah Harmony. There the tune name is "Symyadda." That's not a traditional name, though, but one that John made up for it out of the names of a couple of friends of his. Don't know the page number off the top of my head, but it also sets the tune "O Jesus, my savior," so should be easy to find in the indices. I believe the same arrangement is also printed in the new green Missouri Harmony.
No hymn is accidental. Keep the hymn,
Here is "O Jesus, My Saviour" song sung beautifully by a larger group:

Do you have a cd?
+Janie Smith No, but some of us are hoping to make recordings of some sort in the near future.
I look forward to it!
+Logan Green That would be absolutely wonderful. This sound is beautiful, as is its message.

I don't understand, my friend ...
Btw you need to
Seems incongruous that these fine Christian people are singing so beautifully and the cameraman is on drugs!
Haha. It wasn't intended to be video-recorded; one of us just pulled out his phone last second to capture a bit of it.
@@monologtube Haha, real good, just messing with you. Enjoyed it very much!
Need to fire the photographer. Lovely music though.
Thanks got the comment. It wasn't intended to be filmed, one of us just pulled his phone out.
I just got gut punched
it is Him not the hymn, not singing/saying words which r sensual but what else can humans do/think!,
