    You have the gift of TH-cam your vids are well done just need more to see them😁
    In central VA where I log..what you cut is just our pulpwood and we haul it 20ft or tree length..saves on all that cut up but your jobs look nice when done.

      thanks for the praise! ya our pulpwood is cut to 100 inches. I dont understand why our mills arent set up for longer pulpwood but it is what it is. Actually been cutting some 16 ft pulpwood recently that'll get shipped to some far away mill. Its a first for me.

      You're not the first to wonder that: aspen, popple, poplar, cottenwood all the same family tree.

      The trick to going multiple days without leaks, is to not put on clean pants. Never fails, you have clean pants, you got leaks.....

    I have been wondering about the logging you and a lot of other in the usa. Why use a feller buncher when you have a harvester to process with? Why dont cut down the tree with the harvester instead? Must save a lot of fuel doing the job with one machine instead of two.
    //greetings from Swedish logging entrepreneur.

    • @waynehershey

      We use a feller buncher to pile the trees into big piles. Since we chip the tops and the branches, the feller buncher piles make it much easier to pile the tops and branches after the lumber has been cut out of the trees. A feller buncher also will quickly snip small trees and brush and leave the job much cleaner looking.
      We do a lot harvesting with just a harvester as well. But it's usually when we aren't chipping the tops and branches. Then it's simpler to just cut with a harvester.

      @@waynehershey okey, thanks for answering. We also cut sometimes so the tops and branches become chip, but we do it with the harvester directly. Felling forward and cut alongside the machine, that way both the wood and the branches be in nice piles along the machine. The only difference i think is that we use a lot more of the trees for pulp. Down to 5cm (2inch) so the piles with tops doesn't become so long.
      It's interesting have different forestwork is in different countries.
      I hope you understand my English. 😅

    • @waynehershey

      Interesting. I think our tops are pretty long because we take them down to only 4inch. Plus its often hardwood we cut so it has some length on the top. English is great by the way

    Do you get paid more for peeled popple?
    Does the peeled wood make cross loading tougher?

    • @waynehershey
      @waynehershey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a long time since we've done peeled popple. The pricing needs to compete or beat prices for non peeled for it to make sense. I'm not sure if there's a market for it around here anymore. Give the popple a couple of days of drying it won't slip around much.....until it rains. It'll get slippery again.
