    I like how they appear to have found good, affordable, CGI-based special effects for aliens that essentially digitize them but they look like 1970s/1980s puppets or suits, which just feels right for Star Wars.

      I think there's a difference between being cautious and being some all caps rage culture warrior that demands people be hung by their entrails for enjoying something they didn't, I mean if you include animated shows only 55-60% has been good,rest has been pretty mid, so of course you have be a bit cautious with your excitement about modern SW, which most channels were, although imo I thought I'd be a good show just because it didn't fall into the same tropes a lot of other sw media fell into

    I'm 56 years old, and I LOVED this show. Not even ashamed. I can't add anything you haven't already said, but I finally have good feelings for Star Wars again after so many years of watching its decline. When I saw Star Wars in the theater back in '77, and Luke Skywalker was staring out at the twin suns, wishing he could be more than he was, I FELT that, even at 10 years old. This is the first show since then that I felt that again. I feel this is going to be a wonderful series, and I'm sure I will enjoy every episode.

    12:15 - Thank you for saying this, and not being afraid of the internet. I was hating on Disney Star Wars for a long time, until I started recognizing some of my favorite Star Wars content was from the Disney era, like: Rogue one, Andor, that last episode of Obi Wan, and now Skeleton Crew has kind of blown me away with the quality of acting, even if it's basically treasure island in space. It's a great time watching it.

      Depends what you mean by reviews. The critics from major media outlets loved those shows you mentioned, only after they were being aired did less positive reviews appear. As for this one, not surprised its getting good reviews, but its not for everyone. It's a kids show and that isn't what many people find fun. Oddly Star Wars has always been for kids, so I was a little confused why they spent so much money on this show to attract a kid audience

    • @afunkymonke
      @afunkymonke หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Mando S3 just compounded the issues we started with in BOBF, the fact we couldn't get a single episode that season without Grogu by his side says it all. In my opinion they shouldn't have reunited them so fast, especially not in a completely different show that shouldn't have had Mando in it to begin with. Cobb Vance should have been the Mando role showing up to save the day alongside someone that he kinda stole his armor and wouldn't see eye to eye with at the start due to Boba being a prior enforcer for Jabba and probably causing trouble for people like Cobb and the others of that town. Instead they stuck him in a bacta tank and we have no idea if we will ever see Cobb come back.

The reference to the Republic (not the New Republic) and Great Works was a clue. Even Star Wars Theory has praised the first two episodes, which is a relief.

I also remember the animosity between boys and girls, especially the kind of girl who thinks she's so smart and can talk her way out of any situation. This show brought me back to childhood. That sounds more like a high/old republic era thing, kinda like post ww2 era US. A by gone era that has remained in a bubble is a very interesting way to go about things, especially the fact they talk so much about the Jedi in an era where most still think the Jedi are urban legends or remember the stories the Empire would tell to try and keep people in line.

    I like the growth of the "pirate nation" I've always been interested in a 3rd party semi legitimate government forming out of the lawless and wild areas of the galaxy, who are strong enough to hold territory from the empire or republic. The Mandalorians seem to be forming such a group and you also have the pirate nation as well as potentially the crime families, although with Boba Fett not being continued, I doubt we will see much more depth into them. This could be partially an explanation for the civilian fleet from rise of Skywalker but I wouldn't want every project to be beholden to explaining the sequels.

    Every generation has their own thing. Lucas Arts sub contracted to different companies so that they supported the creation of new development studios to increase the amount of unique entertainment we had, with them being an important part so they were never left behind. Now that it is all under one roof, so to speak, the question of 'who is it for' is important as if it is for a new audience and not the old then logic dictate that they expect to build their audience themselves and not rely on fans funneling them the next generation.

    This feels like a great entry-level Star Wars for all age groups. The likes of which has not been created by Disney. No background knowledge needed for most viewers and they get a fun naive perspective/POV to mirror their own. Meanwhile, for the lore junkies, they have the carrot of unraveling the mystery of how this fits into the universe they know. Very well done.

    I am genuinely charmed by this show. Kid characters are believable and fun and that's always difficult to get right in that kind of shows with appropriate casting and screenwriting. (I wish there was this level of competence involved with the Acolyte.) Skeleton Crew gives me the vibe of a Treasure Island and even though it is predictable to a degree, I am perfectly happy with that. It's just simply endearing.

    I think 8 episodes is plenty to tell the story well. Goonies and Muppets Treasure Island both had under two hours run time and told their stories just fine. This series is probably three times that length, so there's plenty of room for world building and lore.
    Did anyone else notice that Wim was carrying Old Republic credits? That's like having gold Doubloons for pocket change, or walking into The Broken Drum with 2000 rhinu. Something definitely strange there.

    Ready Player One was a power fantasy. Dude saves the world, has unlimited money, even points out the stagnation of life. After saving the world, he keeps the money to his friends, and limits the use of VR.
    Dude could of built a new society, use VR to train new skills to people, but he kept it to his own circle. Nothing has changed except for him.

    Something did seem off about having to pass a career placement test. They are only matching them to potential careers. I've taken a few. In countries with major pass or fail tests, like Germany, those aren't done until much later. I took a few major tests as a kid, but those are more about measuring the school's progress. It was never a big thing I had to pass. There is something dystopian about it.
