  • www.ikmultimedia.com/trfarmst... - Four walls that rocked ′80s drum tracks
Phil Collins made history when he tracked the explosive drum sounds for the worldwide hit song “In the Air Tonight.” Awash in the unique reverb of the studio’s stone-walled drum room and crushed by compression, it has become perhaps the signature drum sound of the ′80s. Also used on Peter Gabriel’s “Intruder” and many other hits, the combination of heavy reverb and massive compression has been widely influential and instantly recognizable ever since.
Seeking to recapture that magic in their own studio, “Fisher Lane Farm” in the UK, the band Genesis enlisted the original engineer Hugh Padgham to build a drum room to the same specs as the one at Townhouse Studios where the iconic drum sound was produced. And while both rooms are sadly now gone, IK was given exclusive access to the Farm before it closed forever to preserve its distinctive sound in a brand-new plug-in.
The Farm Stone Room is here to give your drum tracks the sonic impact that only this type of rare stone live room can offer.

This would be great for hair metal and that big 80s rock sound. Got it with the bundle so I'll put it to good use

Do I need another reverb? No.
Do you keep on making reverbs that I am going to buy?

Thanks Dave. Due to unforseen factors, my drumming has taken a back seat. This opens up a whole new world to me, inspired by Genesis, yet open to us all to make some audio gold. This is priceless.

I just bought this today along with your Fame Studios plugin. May be two of the most important plugins I've bought in years.
These bring everything to organic life. I love them! No more sterile in the box recordings.
They are also quite easy on the cpu, which was a pleasant surprise.

I absolutely love these studio reverbs from IK - and also the Abbey Road Chambers from Waves. Somehow, you slap them on virtually any sound source, blend to taste and it sounds more authentic and musical and interesting.

With control over dry and wet signals would you put this directly on a drum bus or an aux with a send?

Either! :) It really depends on the source and what you're looking to accomplish. There are presets for both kinds of use, insert or send.

Wasn't "In The Air Tonight" done on a Roland CR-78 machine?

    • @davekerzner
      @davekerzner ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes until the real drums come in with the big iconic drum fill. From that part to the end it's both real drums and the CR78.

So the stone live room has stone walls? Is that how it got its name?

The studio itself was called "Fisherlane Farm Studios" but it was Genesis' private studio in the UK. Very few outside of the band used it. But, yes it's called a Stone Room because the walls are made of stone. That gives it a particular reflective sound and it's captured in this plug-in.

yes, stone wall room was already taken. by a wooden panel live room studio.
