Thanks mate..current can get very strong through there and at low tide lots of rock bars just under the surface as u can see in the video haha…I haven’t been there in a while now but I usually like the outgoing tide..curly tail plastics work well and a jig head with enough weight for whether u fish the shallows or the deep ledge…it’s a tricky spot with lots of snags though, good luck 👍🏻

    G'day mate!
    YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME!
Due to health issues, last time I went fishing was about 20 years ago. But you and a few other things, motivated me to get back out there, and last Friday that's exactly what I did.
BACK TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Went back to a place near where I first started fishing when I was around 15 years old. Brisbane river - longtime love affair that one - the West End Ferry Terminal. Back then they still had a cross river ferry, and the captain of the ferry very kindly let me fish from the pontoon on the St Lucia side. I knew nothing about fishing back then, and he actually took the time to teach me things like how to tie a fisherman's eight. Even let me ride over and back for free. He was one of the best, no doubt about it.
WHERE OH WHERE IS THE RECREATIONAL HUB?
This time, I was located somewhere between the West End Terminal and the supposed City Council Recreation Hub. Supposed, because all I could find was one long line of temporary fences, upon which signs proclaimed construction was afoot. All I caught was two small catfish, which of course I threw back in. It was wet. It was cold. There were a bunch of very loud young guys fishing off a nearby pontoon, which proudly displayed "NO FISHING" signs.
So yes, I had an awesome time! (No sarcasm intended.)
    ADVICE ABOUT FISHING KAYAKS?
Now, something else you have inspired is fishing from a Kayak. Frankly, I had no idea that people did such a thing. I've started researching them and looking for something to buy.
When you have a moment, would value any advice you might have regarding what might be a good buy. For example, I came across claims that a sit-on Kayak is what you want for fishing. However, when I look at fishing Kayaks they all look like they are sit-in.
I'm actually going to take a look at a pre-loved one this week. It's a Scorpio Terrapin Fishing Kayak, which comes with a wheel set and paddle, padded seat, has rod holders etc. If you know of them, what do you think of them?
If you don't have time to respond, or for any reason you're not comfortable with giving advice, no worries mate. All good.
But if you are happy to share your thoughts with me, I look forward to hearing them.
    Professor K.

Thanks for the post and I’m glad I good give you some inspiration and get out there again!
The kayak you mention I’m not familiar with but it looks to be a 2.8m sit on top with moulded in rod holders? I started off with a 2.8m kayak and I still use it time to time in my Murray cod fishing videos if you want to have a look…it’s now my creek basher haha..they are a good starter kayak that most people start off in and are light and stable but just slow..
I then upgraded to my current yak the hobie revolution 13 which I bought 2nd hand and is 11 yrs old now..it is skinnier than most in the hobie fleet but it’s lighter….once you go to a peddle yak you probably won’t go back to a paddle yak..In saying that and depending on budget, it’s worth looking at an older hobie outback which is wider/more stable than the revolution but is a little heavier…can get a decent older one for $1500 or so but if not looking to spend too much then a 2.8m sit on top is a good start.
      Cheers and good luck!

@@farcanalfishing Have to say I didn't expect such a fast response, nor such a delayed reply ...smile. Last few weeks have been trying to get back and leave a message - making myself do so now even though I need to get ready and leave for the school within the next 25 minutes - but things have prevented me from doing so.
Had COVID19 which resulted in Long COVID. Quite enjoy the brain fog, which leads to a range of events that I find absolutely hilarious. About a month ago, driving from Moorooka to Ipswich, something I've been doing without any issues for decades, I managed to take the wrong exit. "That's nothing!", I hear you say, "That can happen to anyone." Well, yes, true, it can happen to anyone, but in my case I did it six times. I ended up trying for a seventh, but unfortunately didn't quite get there. To a seventh wrong exit, not Ipswich. I did get to Ipswich. Eventually.
What I don't like about Long COVID is the extreme fatigue. Most mornings I have to go back to bed and sleep for three or four hours. Losing the morning is the last thing I can afford to do. As I write this I am currently fighting the desire to sleep, but impossible as it's exam night so I need to be in early to set things up for the students.
Due to a transformative experience, while off-work for five weeks due to illness, I've been doing remarkably well. However, as I suspected depression and active suicidal ideation dropped by to see if we might give it another go. It was a rocky three or four days, but I think I've chased them off again, at least for the time being [This is one of the reasons I'm attempting to get a Kayak and get out on the Brisbane River. I've always had an affinity for the water, and combined with fishing I think it will do wonders for re-building my mental health.]
Yesterday, I had to fight a rear guard action against flooding under the house, due to a large quantity of silt having washed down into my outside drain. The water was already lapping at the very edge of the trench dug around my house, so it was vital I got out there and cleared the drain before I went to work. As always, loved the digging, as well as being in emergency circumstances. However, when I left for the school, my usual 35 minute - plus 10 minute walk - mutated into just over 2 hours due to a traffic accident on the freeway slowing us all down, and the usual madness that ensues when it rains.
Arriving 2 hours late would normally mean my pay being docked - although we are by definition permanent part-time, we are classed in our industry as being casuals. I.e. No teach no pay. But we have a brand new Director of Studies, and for the first time in my entire career we have a good one. Potentially a great one. She's actually rather intelligent and we get on exceptionally well. When I asked if I was being docked, as had been the case in the past, she replied "Of course not! That wouldn't be fair!" Seeing as I put in a 1000+ hours unpaid for the school every year, I would have to agree.
Finally, though, I'm here and writing this in appreciation for your guidance.
Not being of the "Yeah...but my neighbour's brother-in-law works at a fake meat factory, and the girlfriend of his supervisor has a 9 nine year old daughter who told him that Hobies don't like flowers. She even drew him a detailed picture - very nice, you can see the Hobie crying because flowers landed on its hull. They all said I should look for an Indian 2000, made by WMCS (White Men Can't Swim Pty). Apparently I can get a near new one for $50 or less.", I have been following your advice as given. I've focused on finding a Hobie Outback, and there are more on offer in my price range than expected, all with varying degrees of extras.
I'm waiting on a reply from a few on the Queensland Used Fishing Kayaks FaceBook page, and will soon be responding to an offer from a gentlemen for a PA14 for $2,000. I have a few questions for him such as how old the kayak is. Of course, it's not an Outback, however, when I looked at the specs I have to say it looks pretty good, although the fully loaded weight is a bit of a concern. Nonetheless, I do drive a BT-50 and I'm thinking about installing a climbing pully - one of my side gigs is climbing and cutting giant palm trees from the top down for removal - and a pair of removable rollers in the bed, which combined with a ramp will make getting the Kayak on and off the Ute relatively easy.
What are your views of the PA14? Worth a look or should I give it a miss?
And before I forget again, would you mind sharing the types of lures you use with such success? I've looked at them and have no idea which is good and which is not.
I note with admiration that you provide your videos for free, your goal being to get people out there. However, as I'm now coming back yet again, with more questions, I want to extend an offer to support you as a tangible gesture of thanks. If you find that agreeable please do let me know.
For that matter, if you had the time that is, I'd be more than happy to pay a mutually agreed amount to act as a buying agent, as they do in real estate. With your knowledge and experience, I dare say it would drastically reduce the amount of time this will take me as well as getting me the best outcome possible. No doubt though, you are far too busy and naturally enough would prefer to be fishing whenever time permits. Should you know of someone who might be interested, who you could recommend to me, that would be excellent. If none of this is possible, no worries, I'll get there eventually, just as I did with my BT-50 and so many other things before that.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this rather long post - writers you know, we just can't help ourselves - and once again for being so generous with your knowledge and time.
Damn it! Look at the time!
      Must dash.

@@USANAK that is quite a read! Haha all good..PA14 or the slightly shorter PA12 are good yaks with plenty of storage, deck space and great stability (stand up and fish) but they are heeeeavy and big…most guys trailer them and to me that defeats the purpose of a kayak and you may aswell buy a boat…but that’s just my opinion…the outback is just a better all rounder but lesser deck space and stability than the PA but are lighter and easier to maneuver..the older ones though have a less desirable seat like my Revo 13…if you can get any kayak with the Vantage seat (raised seat) then your back might thank you later..
The lures I use are mainly soft plastics..depending on what I’m targeting as to which ones I use…but Zman slim swimz and grubz 2.5-3.5 inch on jig heads 1/20 - 1/8 (depending on current and depth) sizes are good all rounders that catch just about everything.
Let me know how you go and I can always meet ya for a fish 🎣

@@farcanalfishing Thank you my friend, what you've shared has been exceptionally helpful.
As for it being quite a read, you should see the email I wrote to my Director of Studies before leaving work tonight. Makes what I posted look like no more than a slightly long entry in a greeting card, and on that score, give me another year and I'll have written my own War and Peace Volume 1.
You write that you see no point in trailers, in your opinion. Well, I completely agree. In addition, I have no interest in having to pay the government for the privilege of using one. That in mind, I'll go with your advice and stick with the Outback. Focusing on one will make the process much simpler. As for the Vantage seat, let's hope it comes with one. Just checked the prices, best so far is just shy of $1,000. Must be one hell of a seat boys.
I'll definitely look into those lures.
Thanks for the fish invite, I'll keep that in mind. And of course, will definitely let you know how I go.

      G'day mate.
      Might have something.
White Hobie outback mirage. Comes with paddle, electric watersnake motor, Hobie sail, a Lorance GPS depth sounder and battery. Being sold due to health issues.
Listed 3 weeks ago. Original price was $1,750, later reduced to $1,550, but open to offers.
Asked what the age was, they don't know. Asked for the serial number, they can't find it. Told me that the original seat was uncomfortable, and sent me photographs of the aftermarket ones. Both have a small blue logo at the top of the backrest. Can't workout what it is and had no luck with an image search. However, the person selling it appears legitimate. Ran an image search of their profile photographs and found no copies. Have their address and checked it out. Nothing dodgy about it.
It's about an hour's drive from here. I've arranged to take a look this weekend. Before then, I plan to do some research regarding which areas in particular to check for stress fractures. Have already read about the issue with the drive and how it appears to put undue strain on the areas close to it.
I'll let you know how I go.
