The Sonic SATAM cartoon did end on a cliffhanger after season 2. But the series did continue with the Archie Comics to show what happens after season 2

I don't know if I'd consider a 40 episode run to be short-lived. Especially in comparison to the others that are lucky to get a full season.
And I definitely don't consider a whopping 65 episodes to be "short-lived". That's actually a pretty long run for a cartoon.
Next you'll be telling me the original Transformers cartoon (which got nearly 100 episodes and a theatrical film) was short-lived...
