This could not have came at a better time! A FEW TIPS...
You could also use iron on clear vinyl if anyone has a messy pet. I would iron it on before the binding but after the quilting. I think I would recommend just serging or zigzagging the edges so it is easier to wipe off & the binding doesn't get messy too. Adding a rubbery shelf lining to the back so it doesn't slip around might also work. The dogs get pretty excited at feeding time!
My kids always get rescue dogs & this will make a great gift for the dogs & their owners.
Thanks again, Laura! We appreciate your videos SEW much!

I love using parchment paper. I use it for a lot of sticky projects. I use it for decopaging the most. Allows your pain to dry so it doesn't stick to the surface.

I made one of the dog bones for my little girl Buttercup just last week! I used the scraps from my most recent quilt I made for myself. We now have matching projects. So much fun. 😁💜

I make those as part of my "Semper ' Stockings " and 10% goes to our local humane society. Too cute! I put clear vinyl on top before binding. Love it!!

Soooo what is a Semper Stocking?!???!!!
      I’ve never heard that term 🤔 ❤️😀

@@rachelburgener819 sorry, I left out a keyword, "company"? After losing my pup, Semper, I started a line of pet Christmas Stockings at first and grew to include placemats, carved signs, wooden dish holders, etc and 10% of what I make I donate to our local humane society. So someone else could rescue a Semper of their own. Sorry for the confusion.

I've seen other tutorials on how to do these but none had the idea of tracing on the outside line. Good idea. Thanks

I just ordered the dog mat and I'm going to use your idea of making it bigger for my medium sized beagle. To be honest, I hadn't thought of making the pattern bigger! I just thought "Well, that's too small, so I can't use it!" Thanks so much for the idea!

Hi Laura, I love this... I've made the dog bone placemat... came out great, but I really need to work on my binding... but for the first time I was happy... and was my first time doing quilt-as-you-go.... Yes again, you're just fantastic.... I hope you and your family has a wonderful Holiday Season.... Jon

🌲I had made the fish for my cats and had traced the pattern so I could make another placemat for them. I like your zig zag version as I had put a binding on mine

I'd run it through the serger with wooly nylon thread to finish the edges.

Great idea. I wonder if there’s a product you could put on them so they don’t get messy immediately. My kitties are very messy eaters and the dog is as well.

You could use vinyl fabric or spray a cotton fabric with scotchgard once the placmat is finished.

    • @Sueblueify

You could use iron on vinyl before finishing the edges

I have used vinyl in some of my projects, but tell me more about iron on vinyl?!?!! I had sewn mine; it can be a challenge. Thank you ❤️😀

@@rachelburgener819 It’s a HeatnBond product. Vinyl on one side and gridded protective paper on the other. After cutting vinyl to appropriate shape, you peel it off the paper and stick it to the fabric. You then place the protective paper over the vinyl and press. Flip the project over and press from back. You can cover both sides with vinyl if you choose, one side at a time.

These are cute. My cat already has a mat bigger than these and he still gets his food all over the floor. 🤨. Its like feeding a messy baby. 😖. Do you make one about 3 x bigger? 😂🙀😻

    • @SewVeryEasy

You can use a zigzag stitch and just be with to what you like but the length will need to be very very small depending on the machine even a one
