They picked a great actress to play Sarah. I can see all the kids in her. Looks like Maggie, sounds intelligent like Brighton, and has Grace’s innocence. Great pick.
Did they not also use her for the episode where the family looks at old film from before she died? It was the episode where Gracie says she doesn't remember her mother, then when watching the film realizes she does remember.
I love how Fran honors Sarah's memory by having the kids watch home videos and lighting a candle to guide her way. My favorite scene is how Fran corrected CC when she accidentally called her Sally, showing that Fran had so much respect for Sarah even though she never met her.
Fran, like many stepparents that fill the role of deceased parents, knows that she could never replace Sarah but that she can be there for the kids and guide them through tough times, like when Maggie thought she was pregnant and when she meets the kids for the first time and they were still grieving over their mom.
And the honoring the departed actually starts in the pilot episode. Of you notice the first breakfast scene, they keep the seat at the dining room table empty, which is a Jewish tradition.
They handled this quite beautifully. It is very realistic: many people whose spouses have passed away often feel guilty when they fall in love again, especially if their first marriage was a happy one. Although The Nanny is fictional, it was wonderful how the children (and Max) knew that Fran could never replace Sarah; Fran's romance with Max was entirely different but still special.
It was also lovely that Fran not only never tried to replace Sarah, she encouraged them all to talk about her and listened when they did. There was no jealousy or being uncomfortable.
It was also done on Designing Women when Charlene was dating Bill. His first wife Nancy died, and he briefly broke it off with Charlene because he felt guilty about falling in love again. But it was Julia, who understood how Bill felt because she also felt the loss of her first husband before she dated Reese. Julia told Bill that it was OK to fall in love again and that he had enough room in his heart for both Nancy and Charlene. Sara was basically telling Max the same thing, that she wanted him to be happy.
I also liked how the show handled this quite beautifully too and Maxwell needed closure with his dead wife before he could really move on with his life and marry Fran.
His wife is beautiful and I am happy she sent Fran. She seems like a real kind and genuine person Maxwell is lucky to have her still watching over them.
This was just such a beautiful moment because he got Sarah’s blessing and knew that she would be happy for him and Fran. Of course Fran wouldn’t take her place but it was such a sweet moment especially cause Fran was like a new mother figure to the kids.
Since one of the main reasons he dragged his feet with Fran was because he felt guilty about moving on, I’m glad this scene happened. It was what he needed to be at peace with everything.
@@kriscv5026 Yes, alot of folks feel like that. When My Aunt (By Marriage) got remarried My Family were so upset. They felt that since nobody in the family remarried after they lost a spouse neither should she. It didn't work out because she couldn't emotionally separate herself from him. She hasn't met anyone new but she knows that she couldn't be with anyone who could live in the shadow of her late husband.
I'm so glad the writers included this scene. Knowing that Sarah was the one who sent Fran was just beautiful. She wanted Max to be happy again, and for the kids to have a maternal figure in their lives again.
Wow, Sarah really saw how strained her family was after her death. Especially her husband with their children. I’m glad she sent Fran to them to fill that missing void she left because Fran made everyone happy again. I’m also sure Sara also appreciate Fran for making sure that the children won’t forget about their mother
Yes, especially in the episode where the youngest daughter Gracie didn't remember Sara, and Fran made sure that she would be there for her while remembering her late mother.
I've been waiting for this scene. I did love how throughout the show, Fran was there to fill the maternal role but it wasn't in a way that replaced Sarah, more like being there because Sarah couldn't be, and she made sure that the kids never forgot their biological mother either.
Wouldn’t she be his late wife, not his ex wife? They didn’t divorce before she died. Anyway, this is one of my favorite scenes from the show, I tear up every time when she says she sent Fran to Max and the kids.
regardless of the reason, he is no longer married to her. therefore, she's his ex-wife. it's "until death do us part". while it would be clearer to call her his "late wife", it isn't wrong to call her his ex-wife.
One of my favorite parts: Sarah: Why do you think I sent her to you? Maxwell: You sent her to us? Even with that voice? Sarah: I thought she had a cold! Very touching scene.
This scene + the scene before the wedding when Fran has cold feet & Maxwell says, "5 years ago you blew into our lives like a whirlwind; made us feel alive again. For that alone I'll love you forever." 🥰
This scene always stuck with me after I watched it because while it is rather silly, it is also unbearably sweet. I like the idea that even after Sarah passed, she wanted Maxwell to have a life and love after her, and it's even better during the adoption episode because we learn just how much respect Fran has for Sarah and how she tries to do right by her children.
I swear Sarah just sounds so angelic, pure and kind hearted. I have no doubt in my mind she was an amazing mother and wife for Maxwell and their kids. She will always be with him and I’m sure just like she said she’ll always be grateful to Fran for bringing light and love back into their lives❤️
This is how you know she loved Max dearly. She didn’t feel like she had to hold him back from moving on and experiencing love again. She saw how he felt and how much her children loved Fran, and she knows she can’t be there physically anymore. The idea she sent someone who she knew would be right for their family so they may grow together, and also never forget family of the past, truly a gorgeous scenario!
This was such a lovely and well-done scene. Ghost scenes with significant others can be emotional or sometimes creepy, but when it's wholesome and funny like this, it reminds us of the positive memories we all have for the ones we lost.
This was a great scene. This shows how much it's obvious to everyone how deeply Fran loves the children and Maxwell. It's Maxwell subconscious but it's well done.
@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072 , you've obviously never had to say goodbye to a very special partner or you wouldn't have that opinion. The worst day of my life was touching him for the last time.
Yes, yes, I know it's a show. But could you imagine if everyone was like Sarah and Max? He fell for Fran so early on, but felt he'd be disrespecting Sarah bv going after Fran, so he never did out of respect for her memory. And Sarah's spirit knew what Max needed was to fall in love again, so she sent him a woman that would adore their kids and adore him. She knew he'd never forget her, and she was more focused on bringing her family happiness because she knew she could no longer provide it. It's just so beautiful.
This is basically a visualisation of what every therapy tries to achieve when someone feels guilty that he or she has fallen in love again with someone new and fears to not respect an earlier, lost love.
Beautiful scene. Did you notice this very British moment? She: That's why I sent her. He: Did you hear her talk? She: I thought, she had a cold. In GB it is more important how you speak than how you dress or behave. In Germany this small dialog is about her clothes.

I'm sure this episode resonates with many widowed couples, they feel moving on and remarrying is disrespectful to their spouse. For his late wife to visit Max and tell him to be with Fran is sweet
