My most favorite movie ever. I think I'm obsessed with it. I fell in love with Kim Novak the first time I saw the movie in film class in high school.

My aunt lived a few blocks from where they filming Vertigo on Delores St. here in San Francisco. She called over to our house and invited us kids to come over and watch them working. It was kinda cool to see Jimmy Stewart. I was really surprised at how tall he was

@@donalekocorleone6844 how would you know the age of a person by their writing? i certainly wouldn't. They did the Mission

@@spactick I think they were implying that the words you used and structure of your sentences seemed like a younger generation, just like your use of "thru", which I doubt most people born in 1947 would use. I'm not trying to say you aren't telling the truth, though. If you weren't, you would have gone to a lot of effort to find specific street names

I re-watched Vertigo yesterday. For the 4th time I believe. I had forgotten just how good Kim Novak was, although I didn't realise she was about 25 years old. She looked more mature, or at least acted more mature. Important since she was supposed to be playing a character carrying the weight of the past and able to express that when Scotty pushes her to an explanation.

There was no collaboration of film composer and director in the history of Hollywood who had the power and prestige of Alfred Hitchcock and Bernard Hermann. At their zenith in the 1950's early 60's. The world waited to see what those masters were going to come up with next. It was marvelous. Vertigo, North By Northwest, Psycho, The Birds all in succession? unbelievable, in a 1,000 years film students will be looking back at their work and marvel, as they do today

@Corno di Bassetto Thanks for the referral ( Trouble with Harry), not sure I'd put that in a league with Vertigo or Psycho, but it has it's moments I guess. Never understood what people saw in Britten much prefer Elgar or Walton in the Brits contribution to music. Hard to believe that Elgar was 'self taught' when you consider the number of musicians that is in an orchestra. Bout the only thing I was self taught in was boiling my water in the morning for my tea, as to an orchestra? forget it

@Corno di Bassetto I wouldn't change a single element of the plot. It's a masterpiece.
I can imagine someone walking into a theater expecting a simple thriller/mystery and coming out of Vertigo disappointed. Most people who love the film appreciate it as an exploration of obsession. It's not as easy to understand as Dial M for Murder or The Man Who Knew Too Much.
It's my favorite movie, but I'm not sure I fully appreciated it until I watched it on repeat viewings.

Hold on to your hats. Robert Downey, Jr. is planning a remake of Hitchcock's classic with him in the Stewart role. No names yet for Novak's role. The star of this film though was San Francisco - Before Tony Bennett lost his heart, before Scott McKensie invited the world to visit with flowers in their hair, before the Summer Of Love, before the 49ers won the Super Bowl, before Harry got dirty, before the Giants won the World Series. It was seeing the city for that moment in time that would bring me here decades later and fall head over heels in love with the City!

These photographs - many copies of original photographs and printed images from magazines - are new to people who remember this timeless film. Then as now, stills are made on location and stages where Actors relax and play for the camera. The images of Novak along with Bel Geddes and Stewart are a lovely record. However the stand out images for me are the profile shot of Stewart not wearing his toupee, and the group shot where Stewart wears a black velvet collar around his shoulders, in preparation for the FX head shot for this movie's dream sequence.

@@johnp515 Right. But I've never heard of a BTS photo of a released film featuring an actor who withdrew long before principal photography began being included in a video of this kind. If he/she didn't see fit to include at least an explanation, they should never have chosen to include it at all. That said, I think it's far more likely the person who produced this video hadn't noticed it wasn't Kim. Anyway, I'm glad Vera withdrew. I honestly don't think she'd be convincing in the role. In fact, I don't understand what Hitch saw in her. She's much too cold an actor, who simply does not possess the type of unmistakable passion smuldering just beneath the character's aloof veneer that Kim brought to the role.
