Pride & Prejudice is one of my all time favorite books! And I love The Lizzie Bennet Diaries which is a contemporary vlog style video retelling of P&P. I rewatch on a fairly regular basis.
I looooooved The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Although I will say I'm glad that I got to watch them all at once and not have to wait for them to come out! haha
I studied Jane Austen's completed novels at Oxford when I studied abroad during college...Persuasion is my personal favorite, so I hope you enjoy it! I always look forward to your vlogs, but I am even more excited for your Austen vlog. ❤

So hearing about you taking a sleeper train reminded me of a news article I read last week about a man who boarded a sleeper train in Glasgow and woke up the next morning in Glasgow as the train never left the station! I hope this doesn't happen to you Gavin! :P

I was literally considering doing a classics month in November myself and here you are with classics 🤩 I liked Circe. I really enjoyed Dracula and that cover is GORGEOUS. I really wanna read Bunny too.

Reading Dracula in Whitby is a fabulous idea! Lots of the book details travels from place to place (on coaches, over the sea, etc.), so reading some on the train would absolutely work if you couldn't read it all on location :D

I think Lady Susan is very snarky in tone haha. If you don’t like epistolary novels, then maybe you wouldn’t like it? It’s not part of her juvenilia I’m pretty sure…and it’s pretty short!

Regarding Lady Susan, it is complete and not juvenile, so I would recommend it over Sanditon (which has a delightful TV show adaptation), but it was hard for me to get into until I watch the adaptation Love & Friendship (with Kate Beckingsale). Love the concept of your sleeper train vlog! I loved my sleeper train experience from Aberdeen to London many years ago. Surprisingly comfortable. I did look into the route of Murder on the Orient Express but the route is now different AND costs over £10k so that's not happening 😅. Love your ideas for experiencing books in different ways.
Also, Lady Susan... I haven't read it but you are a completionist and also have FOMO so it doesn't matter what people say because I think you will read it anyway because if you aren't setting an impossible standard for yourself are you even Gavin? 😅😘

I’m excited to hear your thoughts on Jane Austen books! I tried reading Pride & Prejudice awhile ago but had a really hard time with the language 😔 I’ve read some simplified adaptations of her works and really enjoyed them. I hope one day I can manage to read the actual books without being too confused haha!

And you should start with Northanger Abbey and end with Persuasion (first book and last book written). Then read the incomplete and love & friendship if you want to keep going. I'm overly excited right now. I need to chill. I'm sure other people have reading orders, but I like the differences in tone between NA and Persuasion. I watched the Netflix adaptation and it was painful. I'm happy for people who liked it, but I am not one of them.

Lady Susan is also considered one of Austen 's short stories. Austen going to turn it in to a novel but she passed away before it could be completed.
