I feel like Live at Bush Hall is like BCNR's equivalent of In Rainbows, it's considered their "happy" album by comparison, despite also getting super depressing lol
I think defining up song as just happy is undercutting it a bit though. it is definitely positive but there's a really sad and melancholy undertone I feel. Almost like a goodbye to Isaac and AFUT/FTFT BCNR forever. Lewis best BCNR
What they say at an interview with Fantano is that they had that sound at the beginning because it was easier to create emotion trough that kind of angsty tension inducing music. I'm proud of them for achieving something more subtle. It doesn't work as simply as "happy normal music" vs "experimental dark music". Up song incorporates something very human about them as a band without trying to show off. I love FTFT but I think achieving that kind of happiness in music is a bigger achievement than making sad art
Speaking of which, what is the deal with all of the fans indirectly throwing shade at Isaac by saying that the new albums are somehow better or more cerebral? It’s a little strange.
I wish we got an album based on the sessions and live performances before for the first time, their lyricism used to be so dark and uncomfortable and I imagine it must have been taxing on Isaac to write about personal experiences in such a vulgar and obscene way but I wish we at least got one album with the same vibes as their old songs

@@moresnqp yeah ik, i’m more partial to the more intense sound on ftft even if they wear their influences on their sleeve more. i actually like that about it. i’m not as thrilled with the bit more pop-leaning sound of ants. both are no doubt fantastic but ants just can’t scratch the same itch for methat their debut does.

its honestly refreshing that we get a band thats so proud of the fact that they’re all close friends and cherishing it. too often we hear of bandmates fighting, drama, breaking up, toxic relationships etc. im all for their bloomer attitude
It's a song about breaking up and trying to make one's self whole again. For the band, losing their lead was like a breakup, but they are still all friends and the band continues to live on still making exceptional music
People keep talking up this band and the Windmill scene but I just really, really don't get it. I've listened to music of theirs and I can't help but think theres just a layer of... pretention there thats really keeping me from fully enjoying any of the ideas happening. Does anyone else struggle with this?
