Hello Chlooeeeexo ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power
of her vocals.

What you tried has a scientific name, it's called floorgasm. You will see, every song you hear will be a surprise, all so different but musically coherent.
A commenter on another Nightwish reaction - sadly cannot remember their name - said "Most singers sing what they can; Floor sings what she wants." Never has something been more true when it comes to describing Floor Jansen.

**there are 2 pivotal events since Floor Jansen came aboard NW in late 2012 #1 Wacken 2013 - #2 Beste Zangers 2019 at this popular Dutch tv show filmed on Ibiza some top Dutch singers past & present get together and the person on the center couch for the day has one of their songs or a song that has meaning to them sung back to them reinterpreted by the other singers,novel idea .
Floor opened the show with the 1st song below and just blew everyone's mind,only two of the other singers knew who Floor was but none of them had heard her sing with such versatility,after the 8 day run of the show Floor's & NW's popularity soared,stadiums filled up and ticket sales shot up.btw since Floor joined NW & after this show NW's fan base has tripled . on Mama by Samantha S.Floor completely changes the tempo and song structure ,the song is about Samantha wanting to be more like her Mom, Que Se Siente by Rolf is originally a merenge ,mambo type song so of course Floor does it her way,Winner by Tim A. he wrote for his brother who has Spina Bifida,

WOA is a Metal festival near Hamburg, Germany.
It's one of the biggest, if not the biggest, festivals of the world.
I've been there myself in 2016, '17 and '18.

Floor is not the only singer in the band. Check out Romanticide, Storytime and Song of Myself all from this same 2013 Wacken (Vahkan) Metal Festival where they headlined in front of 82,000 people. They did a 15 song set every one of which is a banger. By the way you have only just scratched the surface of what they can do.
Seriously, this is just the greatest band, you have a fantastic journey ahead of you if you throw yourself down the rabbit hole. Personally I think you should react to every song from this Wacken show, then do the same for the Wembley 2015 show, the Tampere 2016 show, the Buenos Aires 2018 show and the Hellfest 2022 show - its all superb 🤘

The performance is Iron Maiden, Hallowed Be Thy Name, live at the Hammersmith, 1982.
I say this because the song looks to be right up your alley. First, lead singer Bruce Dickinson became known as the "Human Air Raid Siren" because of his near operatic metal vocals. Second, the song itself: It's about a man in prison, condemned, who is living the last hour of his life, as he is walked from his cell to the prison gallows. The lyrics are his thoughts and fears as he deals with the fact he is about to be hung, and is about to die.
It is one of the best metal performances of all time.

Marco, the bass guitar player left to pursue his own band...but he is loved by every Nightwish fan. Jukka is the drummer, and had to retired to chronic insomnia... and he stepped down, and was replaced by Kai, who is also a great drummer. Jukka is still part of the band, in a management position. Marcos replacement is also named Jukka...also a very good bass player. One member you haven't met is Troy. If you ask him what instrument he plays...he says yes! He is multi talented and also sings back-up and actually has a song on an album where he is lead vocalist!

Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. Sadly Nightwish are a victim of their own TH-cam success. Some reactors avoid them as they are sometimes accused of chasing subscribers. As far as female singers are concerned I have yet to hear someone better than Floor Jansen. She is quite capable of singing operatic all the way to metal growls although very few growls with Nightwish. For that you need to listen to songs from her previous band ReVamp. Well worth visiting her TH-cam channel. All the best from Norfolk UK.

Just follow Gabriel's suggestions and you can't go wrong. Enjoy. Nightwish have gained so many new fans from this concert on TH-cam as Floor is note perfect singing every song written for previous singers.
@Clive Matthews The other singer "on her level" for me is Morissette Amon. But of couse she does more pop / 90s like ballads and such stuff. But else, she is very much the same thats she makes every song her own, she is very emphatic and can sing more or less everything she want. On top she can even whistle better than anyone else i know.

Tickets for WOA have to be purchased over a year in advance (they sell out at a year prior to the concert). Imagine then - Nightwish had a different singer when the tickets were sold. Loyal Nightwish concert goers (like myself) went anyway. When it was announced that Floor Jansen was taking over from Anette Olzon, we were cautiously optimistic. Floor was known from another group that had opened for Nightwish before. Still, how would she fit with Nightwish? In the first song of the set list, she set the stage for what would become an epic concert. Floor was just filling in until the end of the tour here. It wasn't much of a surprise to find out that she was offered it as a permanent position (which she accepted).
BTW - this song has a sort of canticle at the end that you can hear and see part of the audience singing. This is an older Nightwish song going back to the first NW singer Tarja Turunen.
Gotcha! you have now been sucked into the Nightwish spell, Once you start listening you can't stop! So many songs to explore. Do a little research into the band, then once you understand a bit of the history, listen to 'Poet and the pendulum' This song is a total masterpiece in it's own right, but when you understand the story behind it you will hear this song in a way that makes the goosebumps you experienced feel like a breeze had blown down on you .Nightwish is like an incurable disease, there is no cure, only thing you can do is keep listening and discovering. I had heard of the name of the band before, but was way too late to the party and Floor (which is a beautiful and kind soul inside and out. She was so sweet the two times I was lucky to meet her) is from my own freaking country no less xD Oh well, better late then never I thought, right? I'm sure you've heard this a dozen times by now, but definitely watch "Ever Dream" from this concert (Wacken 2013) and "The Islander" (performed live at Tampere), both of which give Marko (the bassist whose hair you noticed) time to shine.

Emppu (guitarist) giving everyone a tap with his hand,is a first sign for most reactors on the special and tight bond every member has with eachother. Floor Jansen (lead vocalist) said about her arrival into Nightwish. "I knew some of the guys from before,especially Tuomas is a good friend. But i wondered how i would be received into the band brand new,and the answer came quickly. I felt like i entered my own familys house,just endless amount of love,respect and interactions like we have been together for years,and alot of good laughs. I could not ask for a better welcoming!".
I said it all along,eventhough i dont intend to throw shade on Tarja (original vocalist) and Anette (second replacement vocalist),Floor Jansen was made for Nightwish,and she should have joined them back in the 90s. There has been talks of Nightwish having her on theyr radar while she was in After Forever (her first ever band,she joined at just a teenager still) But because of the good friendship Nightwish had with the guys in After Forever,they choosed not to approach her earlier in joining the band,as they didnt want to risk friendships with her band.
If that doesnt speak volume about theese guys,i dont know. Although,i never really saw any statement from Nightwish themselfs about this,it has only been "fan talks" about it,so if its 100% true i cant guarantee. But The Nightwish Army is known for not making stuff up either,so im trusting it to be true at the same time.
Before Floor Jansens entrance,i considered so many other vocalists my favourites. But from i first saw her and heard her,i have been stating that Floor is the absolute best vocalist out there today! Once you think she cant surprise you anymore,she does exactly that! The best versatile vocalist out there,hands down!
And she seems to magicly know when i need to be broken into tears,and feeling better afterwards. She seems to know when i need to be cheered up,i have never experienced a vocalist that does soo many things for me,like she on a pre recorded performance knew that many of us needed a certain type of "care and attention",and therefor did just that.
Some of TNA has lists they want reactors to follow,im not there myself to be honest. I feel like its up to each reactor/new people to Nightwish to pick and choose from what they get recommended. Its like: Do you want anything heavier then Ghost Love Score,or you want some more "pleasant,dreamy and longer" songs? Nightwish has alot of different songs.
If you want high energy,why not go for Dark Chest Of Wonders,it was this concerts show opener! And this was also Floor Jansens first big official concert as Nightwish`s permanent vocalist,so she had been filled with confidence from the guys through many interactions,and rehearsals together. When Tuomas called her,she had JUST recovered from a burnt out state of mind,wich had taken a toll on her stage confidence etc,so the guys worked passionately in getting her ready for Wacken (pronounced Wakken,and not Whacken like many in the US tends to call it lol,and its in Germany,where there is alot of cattle in the area,so the shows logo is a flaming bull,basically to represent the area) Anyway,Floor came out there nervous as hell she claimed,but i never really saw it on her,she was buildt back up,ready to win thousands upon thousands of people over,and she did!
When you have watched this entire concert,i do recommend enjoying the subtitled documentary called: NIGHTWISH -"PLEASE LEARN THE SETLIST IN 48 HOURS". It will make you appreciate Floor on awhile new level,she is out of this world! And she restores peoples faith in humanity! I was completely STUNNED after watching that. Lets say you go on to watch every performance from Tampere in Finland,there is another documentary that will tell a even deeper tale of the wonderwoman Floor Jansen: Floor Jansen - (English&Finnish Subtitles) Interview and Reportage From Tampere [De Reunie](NPO 1) Actually,to understand the meaning of that concert,you can watch the documentary before seeing performances from Tampere.
Because a reporter will walk with Floor around the place where the stage in being buildt etc,and she basically tells information about the area and much more.

Hello Chlooeeeexo. Nightwish Army new subscriber here. Nightwish is so incredible live. My wife, Carol, and I got to travel from Phoenix to watch them perform live last year at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco and they were unbelievable. Thank you for deciding to react to our beloved Nightwish with our 6'1" (barefoot) Valkyrie goddess, Floor Jansen (Yan-sen). I highly recommend that you read all of Gabriel Bardac's comment and follow the link he provides at the end which will take you to his community page, where, in his first two posts, he provides many, many links to fantastic Nightwish live performances. Nightwish is the rare band whose live performances are even better than their studio productions. I hope to see you back again with more Nightwish live reactions with Floor on lead vocals.

Nightwish and Evanescence actually formed in the same year 1996. They are generally considered to have jointly founded the symphonic metal genre, though they took it in very different directions since then.
Evanescence is considered rock, not symphonic metal......... I know we're splitting hairs here sometimes because a lot of times Nightwish doesn't sound symphonic metal but since the beginning Evanescence was considered rock I believe.
@@scottb.4472 They each cross more than a few genre lines, but their older stuff is much closer to each other and much more symphonic metal. Evanescence is much more rock now, but Nightwish was pretty similar with Anette at the mic. Nemo and Amaranth are very much in line with Evanescence style.
@@grantharriman284 that is why I think it's kind of stupid to even label bands.... I mean what difference does it really make?? There are a ton of bands that cross into other genres of music......... But I totally understand your point and I agree
@@scottb.4472 Labels are useful as a shorthand for people like us discussing stylistic similarities and how musical ideas develop throughout history, but trying to put any band in a box is generally a bad idea.
@@grantharriman284 since symphonic orchestration is a mainstay of NW compositions and "metal" is the other dominant "chords" thus NW is at it's core a Symphonic Metal band, something Evanescence never was,after listening to both for 20yrs ,btw NW had their 1st recordings released before EV
Subbed for more Nightwish. You should check out Gabriels list, it's a very good way to get into their best songs and which live versions are incredible. One of my favourites is Everdream and Storytime live @ this same concert and Last ride of the Day live @ Masters of Rock 2015.
More than just goosebumps. It is a emotional rollercoaster like you have never ridden before. Next, Storytime and then Everdream. You will become enthralled like every single one of us.😁 Pay close attention to the wonderful drummer Jukka. He was suffering from severe insomnia at the time of this show, and had to quit so he could get proper treatment. Just watch his body language. He's like: let's give these folks a proper show they will never forget.

I have never seen them live yet. But on June 22nd They play at the Ton Of Rock festival in Oslo, and I'll be there. That show will be their last for a long long time. In the atumn they go into hibernation in the studio for a new album to be released in 2024. And they will not tour that album.
What to react to next? Well.. with General Gabriel's list you can't go wrong. You don't have to do them in order, though.
I know you'll find that Nightwish is VERY diverse in their music writing. (Or Toumas' writing to be exact).

My son and I went to their show at Wembley last December. For once I knew all about the band we were going to see, cuz I'm the fan. After the show he said two things. Floor's stage presence is incredible, she just owns it. Fallowed by "We have to see these guys again!".
She does own the stage. She also said in an interview that if they didn't play GLS during a set the fans would probably hang them! She's made the song an icon. So, of course they did play it, and I got to hear it live. You're going to get a whole heap of suggestions now from the Nightwish army. I'll add mine here. The Poet and teh Pendulum live at Wembly 2016. Research teh song before you listen to it. You think Floor has an angelic voice here? She'll make you cry. But that's ok, she does it to all of us.

Evanescence released their first album in 2003. By then Nightwish had released four albums, and already had international success. In fact, in 2003 Nightwish released their second documentary DVD, and caused international fan turmoil as it was suspected that the marriaged of Tarja, the lead singer, would lead to the band's termination. It's true they did not break through big in the US until with Once, in 2004, but Nightwish was a huge international band before Evanescence had released anything.
Each and every song they play is as perfect as the next. I have seen them live, and they are AMAZING.
Their repertoire is quite diverse. Ghost love song is slightly more to the heavy side, but they can go a LOT heavier (and softer for that matter!)
Floor Jansen (the singer) is wonderful woman. I had the pleasure of working with her on a solo tour. Only for one day, unfortunately.

What Gabriel Bardac said! Look for the comment with all the links! Nightwish since 1996. Evanescence appeared in 1995 but by the time "Fallen" was released, Nightwish (started 1996) had more albums out and was bigger in Scandinavia and Europe. p.s. Nice Floorgasm btw!
