I loved Matilda so much. I also loved James and the Giant Peach, which was an escapist book for me.. and a few books from the Redwall series. A few other favorites were Indian in the Cupboard and The Farthest Away Mountain (both by the same author) but I haven’t read those in decades.
Edit: I also enjoyed Boxcar Children.

this is your parents house right? I'm coming back in few days for holidays and I'm gloomy like every year. The good part is that I'll see my cat and my dog!

    Hello & Good Morn.,
If you like mice, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh, by Robert C. O'Brien (there is a movie)
The Tale of Despereaux, by Kate. Dicamillo (there's a movie)
and Redwall, by Brian.Jaques (there is an animated cartoon series) are my favorite.
I just watched the Matilda movie and it's ok compared to the book.
Oh and for no reason at all, I like the Sherlock Hound cartoon series ☺️

I've never read the little Prince or Jonathan seagull but I've heard that they're good so so many times. I must actually read them sometime!
