From Season 4 Episode 25: The Engagement
Mark informs Alexis that he’s decided to stay in Denver with her since Dex dumped her. Alexis turns down Mark’s advances and threatens to get rid of him if he doesn’t leave Denver. Before Alexis leaves for Fallon and Jeff’s engagement party, Neal makes one last try to talk to Alexis who gives him the cold shoulder once again.

IMO once Mark and Krystle divorced, Mark really became useless.
