As a cyclist lifestyle vlogger, I've done my research and finally settled on the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 (creator combo). It seems like the absolute best vlogging camera, especially for those low-light rides! I tried the iPhone 14 Pro with the Insta360 Flow, but honestly, the gimbal was just too impractical to use while cycling. The Pocket 3 promises to streamline everything and be even better. Sold the Flow, and now I'm impatiently waiting for the Pocket 3 to restock (seriously DJI, why the shortages?). Your video solidified my decision - thanks so much!
That's good to know, thanks. You're gonna love it for bike vlogging. Honestly, this is exactly the type thing the Osmo Pocket 3 is for. Can't wait 'til I get some nice weather to head out and film again.
I use the pocket 3 for vlogging on my bike every week. I find a wrist strap which is very cheap to buy provides enough stability and allows me to use two hands on the bike handlebars. With my phone mounted on the right hand side I've got full display and use of the mimo app. Mounting directly your bike gives you too much vibration. Although I film mostly at night I have done some some daytime blogs where the quality is excellent.
Great video, I'm using Pocket 3 for cycling video too, with combination of neck mount & handheld. It require some times to get used to it, but I love the video quality and gimbal stabilization, and one big advantage over action camera is the tracking feature, I can track the object and move my arm freely
Thanks for this video. I have been eyeing the Pocket 3 exactly for this sort of filming. Recording a cycling trip or just general footage from around town. If it could be combined with a quick-release chest mount you would probably have the best of both worlds. I don't know if frame-mounted is the best option for this device. When I tried recording a ride around town using the Insta360 Flow phone gimbal I overloaded the gimbal several times and the footage was just too shaky when going over bumps. Those micro bumps is just where the electronic stabilization of an action cam shines. I stopped using it like that after my phone literally jumped out of the mount on a small speedbump. I was barely able to catch it before it fell to its death on the street. All the tracking options and creative shooting was great though.
Hi Hugh, thanks for this video. I'm currently using a DJI Osmo Action 5 to film my cycling vlogs but I really want to try out the Pocket 3. Great to hear your thoughts on it. BTW: I also ALWAYS stop at red traffic lights. I hate it when I see other cyclists ride though.
The Pocket 3 is great for cycling but I don’t like it when it’s pointed at the cyclist. It’s just too close and having just a face and looking up at the face is annoying. A 360 camera is a great addition along with a short selfie stick. Generally speaking though, I love the Pocket 3. This video was made with a mix of the Pocket 3 and the Insta360 1-Inch th-cam.com/video/DvS7V5rOigM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LR6GXuvf9g8Q-BuJ
Thanks you a lot for the review! I saw a chest mount for this camera with quick release system already. And I wish I can visit Ireland someday in my life. It's my dream! Such a beautiful country!
Nice test as inspiration. Im recording my rides currently with the X4 but what I do not like a lot is that it is sort of fixed to the bike when not taking a break/using tools to dismount and u know, the X4 lenses are so exposed so u do not put it into your jersey after a clip. So ca I safely put the osmo away after recording? Can it be somehow mounted to the chest? Okay I saw in the comments that there is something like that. But dude, the weather...
yes I use a chest mount since I document a lot of bike rides, though it will probably be great for documenting a run as you get solid footage of people behind you. Just posted a video about this on my own channel if you'd like to check it out.
I got one of these for my bowling content. No matter what I use tripod wise when the ball hit the lane it bumps even being way back so I figure go with this and maybe it will be strong enough to not notice that little bump
@HuFilms I just tested it out last night and it's perfect. I think my phones was working too hard and that's what I was seeing was a frame glitch type deal caise there's no steady shot on my phone. The pocket 3 was amazing. Way better zoom in quality to get up close to the pins. Very pleased
Interesting video on these vlogging cameras. I'm a very casual cyclist, but that's the only time I'd prefer a proper "action camera", because it seems like the Osmo Pocket can't be mounted on the bike as nicely as I would prefer. I wish there was just a single system/camera I could carry with me, and use it everywhere.
Great review, thank you. I was thinking of taking some footage of my bike rides with my pocket 3 and after watching your video, I will definitly give it a go now so thank you.
Thanks for your video. I was torn between this or the Insta360 Go 3S. Ended up ordering this one as I think I'll be more happy with the video quality and storage capacity.
Thanks for this video. I have to film other riders. Have you tried it hard-mounted on the bike? I haven't tried with the Pocket 3, but with the Pocket 2 it registers every bump on the pavement as a shock/blur.
Hi Hugh. What do you reckon about using the Osmo for Real Estate work here in Ireland? Is it suitable for the wee dark dingy rooms we tend to have in some of the properties.
Based on the standard of real estate here in Ireland, the low budget agents seem to have and the fact that a lot of lads are using the DJI Mini 3 for novelty speed ramped 'fly through' videos, I think that the Pocket 3 is more than good enough. I still do the odd real estate job but I prefer to use the R5C. But that's for more high end stuff where I might shoot the place over a full day and avail of light changes.
I bought Osmo Action 3 for my adventures, since it really seems like a durable camera. I'm now thinking about buying this Pocket 3, but it seems somewhat fragile. For me I'm bikepacking so I have bunch of stuff already with me and now I'm thinking of getting a frame bag just for these cameras (I think frame is the area that takes least amount of movement in bumps etc). What do you think, how would you store it with your backpacking adventures if you do them?
To be honest, keeping this camera safe and not breaking it, is the easy bit. I put it straight into my jacket pocket all the time. They're tools at the end of the day and it's not an overly expensive thing to replace. Don't let these things hold you back from creating the right content.
Hello, Thanks for this nice Video 🙂 i think it will helps me ^^, i will do an bike-trip with my husband and i have no idea how i can make video with my Osmo-Pocket-3 without wiggle Now i think you have help me. best greetings from austria 🙂
Thank you for all the helpful information. A neck mount could be a good option so that you don't have to hold the camera while you're riding. I have one from PGYTECH, and it works well.
As a cyclist I use both the Pocket 3 and Action 4 for different shots on my cycling adventures.
Great video. Nice to know the pro and con for all the cameras out there.
Thanks!

Sounds like you have a good system dialled in. I must look into more options as the OP3 is so great for the bike.
It’s quite dangerous to hold it in your hand while riding. Just get a chest mount for it. You can use a GoPro chest mount with an adapter, etc..

Yeah, there's a lot of advantages over the action cams, that said, I'm on the market for a new action cam, maybe the Osmo action 4.

No, hand-held all the way with this device. That's what it's all about.
I just got mine! Started with Pocket 1, then got two Pocket 2s and used them on many bike rides. Looking forward to trying the Pocket 3 now.
Cool! best of luck.
IN THE MOBILE CYCLEST IS TAN IN THT ENDUSTRY IN THERE LIGHT OR DAY.,😊🎉
Nice one. I've got both the Pocket 3 and the Action 4, so I quite like what you've done here. I'll have to grab one of those spider crab thingies!
Thanks! Wait ‘til I get the link up 😂
@@HuFilms haha, will do. I gave up after I saw there was no link in the description!

@@BikeStuffPDX I also have a Tern GSD. It’s my wife’s main bike. Nice videos!
@@AndrewVanBeekOttawaThanks! The GSD really made making bike videos easy or me :)
Nice video again. Agree 100%. with your title. Wondered if there was any sort of wrist sling to reduce camera drop potencial?
I should have mentioned that in the vid. A wrist band does come with it.
Great video, Hugh! I'm excited to bring my Osmo Pocket 3 on my next bike ride!
Tbanks Cole, you're gonna love it!

Thanks, I'm in north Spain now doing some cycle vlogs! Do visit the Emerald Isle, it's great!
I'VE STOPPED OF THERE IN THE POST TO THE STATURE STOLE😊🎉
Beautiful city it must be nice to ride a bike and filming.. 👍👏👏
Thanks man, yeah it's nice but the weather can be bad and the lack of sun in this video made it look very dull!
Very helpful. Hoping to get one of these for a planned Camino trip next week. Is that a Kona gravel bike?
5:36 is actually a nice POV angle, was it difficult to ride the bike with the Osmo there?
Thanks, no as the osmo was mounted to the crossbar. I'll revisit this with a dampener of some sort I think.
Nice! @@HuFilms

Currently using the RS one inch,
Wondering if there is a way to attach it to your chest or backpack shoulder strap.
Kinda defeats the purpose then, it is a vlogging cam. There is though, have a look online.

Thats a challenging shot. Maybe get a bean bag or something to rest the camera on.

Glad you like it. Make sure to get the mic, it makes a big difference. Happy cycling!
there is no case or any way to mount it? a way to have the camera laid down sounds more ideal. Id def put a wrist strap on it just in case
Yeah, though sometimes wrist straps encourage you to just let it dangle. I shot with the Og osmo for years like this sbd never had an issue.
Thanks for your video. I was torn between this or the Insta360 Go 3S. Ended up ordering this one as I think I'll be more happy with the video quality and storage capacity.
I think it's a better vlogging camera but the Insta is a beast.
Have you tried to do a hyperlapse while biking? Seems like a bikeride would be perfect for a hyperlapse.
Not really, as of now, my preference would be just to get some nice weather and get out cycling.
What was the other camera you used for some bike shots? a go pro?
Thanks for this video. I have to film other riders. Have you tried it hard-mounted on the bike? I haven't tried with the Pocket 3, but with the Pocket 2 it registers every bump on the pavement as a shock/blur.
It's really a handheld device. Get an actioncam with stabilising software for mounting on a bike.

I’m wanting a camera for sunset /rises not quite sure the best camera
Great colours. What mode did you shoot in? Did you expose manually? Thanks for the video!
Thanks, kinda muddy weather too. Just use the log profile mostly and do a simple colour transform / tweak in Resolve.
You're one brave man. I'm getting the osmo pocket 3 but not for bike rides. I believe it's too fragile. I have the insta360x3 for bike rides.
It's a lot easier than cycling with my Canon R5C and Ronin!

Sir I'm confused in osmo action 3 and pocket 3 can you please tell me what to consider
The OSMO action 3 is an action camera and the Pocket is more of a lifestyle vlogging camera with a built in gimbal.
Really good video. Thanks for sharing this.
Can you mount the DJI to the handle bars directly? Or would thre be too many vibrations?
Watch the vid! You can... kinda but an action cam will always be better.

ah, I missed Galway
Good Video and great Pocket 3
I bought mine 😀
Just get a chest mount lol. better since the gimble still works well
Do not like the video title, maybe some cyclists can get one. I would not trade my action 4 for a pocket 3 on my bike.
The downside is when you fall, the amount of damage to the camera is high. Unlike GoPro. Very durable.
Yeah this isn't an action camera. it's a vlogging cam.
awesome video :)
Thanks James, glad you liked it.
6:44 😂😂
I know 🫢
That's stupid. Y holding in your hand when you can mount an action cam
Yeah, what was Casey Neistat thinking.
@@HuFilms who?
This camera is the best camera looks like but I’ll get the regular action cam because I’m a clumsy person so it’s not for me
