  • Nicola Sturgeon has been accused of 'lying to the Scottish people' by Scots Tory leader Douglas Ross.
In a fiery First Minister's questions, Ross and Sturgeon clashed over the chances of Scotland rejoining the European Union should independence come about.
Ross stated that since officials had said the Euro must be used if an EU application is to be successful, that Sturgeon had misled the country in the recent economic independence paper from the Scottish Government.

Scotland has 75% of UK renewable energy and pays the highest energy bills in the UK.
Scotland has 97% of oil and pays the highest fuel prices in the UK.
Scotland does not burn gas to produce electricity but still pays towards the ruk.
So where is the better together the English political parties suggest.
Scotland has no democracy within the UK,
With 500+ seats to 59 scottish seats in westmonster shows where unequal the UK is.
With independence Scotland can be more aligned with the policies it demands and political parties can be held to account, something westmonster can never do.

Sweden joined the EU in 1995.
Wikipedia, Sweden's Treaty of Accession of 1994 made it subject to the Treaty of Maastricht, which obliges states to join the Eurozone once they meet the necessary conditions.
Sweden maintains that joining the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM II ), participation in which for at least two years is a requirement for Euro adoption , is voluntary.
Sweden has chosen to remain outside of the ERM II which is voluntary and therefore does not meet the necessary criteria for joining the Euro.
Sweden 27 years after joining the EU still uses the krona.
Dross lied when he said it was just new members that had to give a commitment to join the Euro at some time in the future decided by the country.
Denmark negotiated an opt-out with the EU.

Raised on a diet of Salmond , watched BLUE&white films in secret, always dreamed of wearing a uniform ( kilt ) and even thought of growing a wee mouser, ( see the trend here) , does her sums on a chinese made calculator bought years ago from Woolies .
Yes , she has her support , just as others have had in the past but as in life , we grow up learning from previous mistakes made , whether it be personal or on a wider scale .
Sorry, but as many have commented on here, she doesnt speak for Scotland , the figures proved it before and we should have moved on but we in Scotland are now back in a state of limbo because of the preverbial "dug wi a bone" .
As mentioned at the start , we are in deep shit in 2022 and people would have more belief in a political leader that concentrated more on running a country in the "here and now" than a leader with the infatuation of of being named in a history book.

All EU countries have to give a commitment to join the Euro at some time in the future, current members included.
The only EU member country that negotiated an opt- out is Denmark.
What Dross didn't say was to join the Euro the country has to join the ERM II for two years.
Joining the ERM II is voluntary.
Sweden joined the EU in 1995 and gave a commitment to at some time in the future join the Euro but still uses the Krona 27 years later. Sweden uses the fact that joining the ERM II is voluntary to block joining the Euro.
There are 7 EU countries that do not use the Euro Denmark, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungry, Romania, Bulgaria and Sweden. All other EU countries have volunteered to join the Euro.

62 countries have gained their independence from Westminster for example Republic of Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand etc.
Many other countries around the world have gained their independence for example Norway from Sweden, Czech Republic and Slovakia etc. All these countries have a currency defence forces and trade with other countries. For a country to be Independent is normal. To be a country like Scotland controlled by a neighbouring country is abnormal.
Most small independent western European countries are richer by GDP per capita than the UK.

    • @jamm8284
      @jamm8284 ปีที่แล้ว

@@martindornan1667 Germany is the only european country with a larger economy than the UK. Scotland contributes less than 10% to the UK's economy.
If the GDP per capita is "larger" in "small" european countries, thats because they have far less people for the companies that are based there for tax breaks, like luxembourg which has more companies than people.
Ive also just looked, there are 11 eu countries with higher GDP per capita, apart from Germany the next closest to our population is sweden with 10M people about 15% of the UKs populatiom, so yes if they have 16% of the UKs money they will have a higher GDP per capita, but it doesnt mean anything, Qatar is number 1, you have places like Brunie and plenty more places.
      Lets not forget 3 facts.
      1. The UK was formed by a Scottish king
      2. If it was down to Scotland in 1972, we wouldnt have even joined the EU, with Scotland having votes as low as 30% to join.
      3. Until the SNP came to power Scotland has more immigration from the UK and commonwealth than the rest of the world combined and that the UK has been Scotlands biggest trader for over 300 years until 2021, when Scotland started to withdraw from the EU with the UK and for some reason now Scotland isnt in the EU, they are trading more than ever before with the EU at 50% trade to the EU for the very first time in history...
So 1 of 2 things must be happening, Scotland is intentionally reducing their trade with their largest economic partner or Scotland is better off out of the EU.
      Which one is it?

At first I thought she had all of this under control and that she knew what she was talking about, but joining the Euro is more of a requirement than joining Schengen , and that is fact, and espeically for Scotland where they want to remain within the free movement of British Isles agreement rather joining Schengen (just like the Republic of Ireland, yet it's in the EU, but they haven't joined Schengen, and don't plan to, but they still have the Euro cause they have to since being an EU state) and that's fine, but they should know that; I saw the first conference of her book release that she wrote about the steps after independence and rejoining the EU to grow and develop Scotland, but how is she going to miss out the crucial point of having the same currency as that of other powerful states (France, Germany, Netherlands, or even neighbours, such as Ireland) to attract foreign investment into Scotland, I think that that is crucial!

As someone who is not Scottish, reading some of these comments is painful. Scots are clever people. Given some of the greatest things to the world. Three of my four grandparents rolled their Rs, were the full square sausage as you say, and this comment section seems to be full of the bottom of the barrel of Scotland, so it is somewhat traumatic when people with such a lovely accent, speak with such stupidity. .
I have no dog in this fight, as an Australian, but I DID live in the EU near on for three years. Specifically, Denmark. A country which negotiated a number of Opt-Outs when joining the EU, one of which, of course, was CURRENCY. There was a list of directives about a currency union back then TOO... but Denmark went ahead and said they felt that should be negotiable, and the EU agreed.
Sweden of course, did NOT, but, like Denmark, does NOT use the Euro, because the prerequisite period of two years in the economic region group, allows for VOLUNTARY currency adoption... and therefore, thereafter, so Sweden cites, their EU membership, and agreement at some point in time in the future to USE the Euro, is, also, then, VOLUNTARY, since it was predicated on a voluntary protocol. Thus, they have not adopted the Euro for 27 years and counting.
BOTH of these options are absolutely OPEN to Scotland, should it choose independence and readmission to the EU. The EU WANTS European nations to join. They would see it as HUGE win, to have effectively, both Northern Ireland, AND a newly Independent Scotland as part of the EU. EVERYTHING about that process would be, IS, because there is PRECEDENT to SHOW this, NEGOTIABLE.
Not that it would matter one iota anyway. With independence, Scotland would need a new currency anyway. Scottish Pounds are a thing, sure, but the Euro would work JUST as well, if not better. But Scotland deciding to go for the former, WOULD NOT, in ANY WAY, be disqualifying from their admission to the EU. I do not know where some you Scots get your information, but ignorance on display in this comment section is mind boggling.
Or perhaps it just straw clutching disingenuousness. If you are a Unionist, just say you are that, that you do not wish to dissolve the Union. Don't lie about the EU and Currency and such, make up bullshit stories to try to play scare tactics, and put anyone who might be open to such, off the idea of independence, by lies and deceit. No Scot should be a coward, but if you do that, YOU ARE.
