    Saying wild axolotls live in bad water so they don't need water care is like saying ancient humans lived naked in the savanna so putting a naked human there is a good idea!

      I really don’t know why people compare animals to their wild counterparts so much, especially exotics, sure they haven’t been bred nearly as much as a dog or cat but dear god they behave completely differently.
      A burmese python in the wild is a powerful predator that careful chooses its ambush method and it’s capable of eating crocodiles, goats and even tigers, then there’s my Burmese that hides her head when a fly lands on her and runs from her food at times (which is thawed btw, it’s not even living).
      They aren’t the same and it’s not an excuse

    • @thepiglife2591
      @thepiglife2591 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay but im fine with people comparing animals with the Wild.
      I have dogs, cats, hamster and Guinea pigs.
      hamsters borrow in the wild and go alone. They should also do that in a home.
      Guinea pigs go in groups and likes to eat grass hay, forage, and to hide, they should also be able to do that.
      Dogs are not like “wild wild” that is more wolves but they still mark their tertiary.
      Cats can go outside and catch mice, birds and they also use claws.
      I understand that it’s not all animals but really it’s not that bad sometimes.
      Fish should have room to swim and explore like in the wild.
      Birds should be able to fly.
      Rodents should have more space.
      Borrowers should be able to borrow.
      Some people just are curious, trying to help or don’t really understand.
      Please to try understand them before hating on it.

    • @bulbasaurhimself8914
      @bulbasaurhimself8914 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@thepiglife2591 they're hating on the people who give the bad excuses, you can only use the "in the wild" excuse to a certain point, like we should let rats burrow because they enjoy burrowing, but for example we shouldn't let me crested geckos tank get over 80 degrees, cuz even though in the wild it does get over 80 degrees where they live, my gecko wouldn't enjoy that

    • @thepiglife2591

    even if they could “live through it” that doesn’t make it a good thing and doesn’t mean they are not suffering, for example there are people that lived through the holocaust, does that mean that the holocaust was ok ? no they still went through torture and suffering even if they lived. it’s the same for abusing/mistreating animals

    • @sodapets
      @sodapets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What kind of worms are they? Are they definitely earthworms? Sometimes axolotls can just be picky. Try not to feed crickets too much as they should be a treat and some people say they can be harmful if fed to much. Try repashy grub pie, most axolotls love it

    • @AspenWynd
      @AspenWynd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you feeding nightcrawlers or red wrigglers? Red wrigglers secrete a bad tasting liquid and a lot of axolotls won't eat them. Crickets don't make a good staple food due to too much exoskeleton and lower protein content than worms. You can try to tempt your axie into eating with a bit of cooked shrimp or salmon.

    I have 3 axolotls quarantined right now. All of them are eating well, their gills look totally normal, 2 of them are very very chill, one of them is always walking.. I now figured he's just a very active one. Sometimes he also chills but when I enter the room he starts walking right away, they are in a pretty shady dark place and the water temp. Is 16°C- 17.5°C all the time :) . The previous owner used quarz sand (more than 3mm) as substrate, which I now changed for round axogravel (in the main tank not the tubs of course, because they all poop a ton of this quarz which has to hurt internally... Hoping my tank won't take too long to cycle, I will do the first water test in 7 days. Then I just need a cooler for the summer to let them alone and keep peace of mind :). Hope I'm doing that alright. I also might have to get a second tank because 2 of them are definitely males, but one has a very female shaped cloaca. So I wouldn't keep the 2 males in the same tank as the female if it turns out to actually be one.... I'm very exited about giving them a better home than b4 :))

      I believe there is more than one way to do it but the best way to clean an Axolotl tank is to get one of those tube things with a pump and when you do your weekly cleans, you just take out 30-40% of the water, add prime to new water, make sure its the right temperature, and then put the water back in. With cleaning alge off the glass of the tank, you can just wipe it off with a tissue or get a specific tank glass cleaner.

    I rescued an albino axolotl that was left for dead, he was floating at the top of the tank and I actually did think he was dead until I walked past and saw him move slightly. There was no chemicals, not even water conditioner there, and there were little bugs in the water that were eating away at him. I made the quick decision to save him and bring him home even though I had no clue what I was doing. He’s now in a 150L long tank with live plants, a little bit of lighting, good water conditions and a proper diet. The water he was in was constantly above 30 degrees celcius and now sits between 17-19 degrees. I’m so proud of him, he doesn’t look frail anymore and he actually has gills again

      I thought I would add that he wasn’t from a pet shop, he was from my friends foster parent who had moved away, the house was empty and about to be demolished and I went with my friend to collect any of her stuff that was still there and that’s when we saw him and assumed he had passed. I had only met him once but it broke my heart to see him in the dark brown sludge filled tank with no filter, red sand that was originally white… and a couple fake plants that were really sharp that we immediately threw away

    i love soda a lot but she makes a few confusing mistakes; the most common one being when she makes comparisons and says stuff like “but they’re not wild, they are captive bred” and then later on says “…in the wild” besides that i love her videos and this is crucial information she shares !!

    • @sodapets
      @sodapets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Well it's still important to replicate their wild inviroments to an extent, obviosuly we shouldn't replicate the fact they live in dirty polluted waters in the wild because its what's killing them, but when I was talking about temp "in the wild" i was talking about and keeping axolotls under 20 degress Celsius. This is something we cannot change from the wild because axolotls aren't evolved to handle warm water, but yeah im not good at wording things sometimes lol

      @sheloveskailey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sodapets That’s okay I myself (clearly lol) can’t word things very well, and I guess you’re still totally right because captive bred and wild don’t share all the same characteristics or some other word… but there is even other species who need different things then say their ancestors (specifically humans). Your point still came across pretty clear to me-and hopefully other people if not everyone else-so thank you Soda!! Saving lives, one axolotl at a time
