They get hard but not "ridiculously".
you dont have to take it off.. you have two hands. you can rotate the orb and move the dot with the multitool at the same time. dunkey is just a bit of a smooth brain

VR's easier, theres a very small radius to which your hand will automatically grab anything in that "Grabbable" vicinity. Hence it doesn't have to be one to one.

Having played the game, the orb puzzles are super easy (they're not even puzzles, more like minigames). I have no idea how THAT'S the one thing that got you. The red lights don't even attack you if you deselect the blue light giving you infinite time to re-orientate the sphere.
