My old 900-pound Harley cruiser became too much for me so I looked for something lighter I could ride. The RE Super Meteor ticked all the boxes. What you said about the riding position. Yep no back or knee pains at all. My longest ride has been just short of 100 miles to see an old mate then two hours later the return journey home. Even the following day no pain or stiffness. Am I looking forward to my trip to Cornwell next for for my 70th birthday. You bet! Safe ebjoyable cruising to you and yours sir 👍.
I’ll let you into secret now Dave that I don’t tell many folk but here goes. RE’s don’t need the tappets checking and adjusting every 6k miles. If you carried out this task for yourself you would find a little basket between the rocker covers and the oil cooler. Within this basket is a small pork pie which gives off an addictive aroma when the bike gets up to temperature. Obviously this pie dries up and so needs changing every 6k miles. Therefore this process also covers the taste element should you so desire. Anyway, dont tell anyone as it’s a big secret. I have to go now before the men in their white coats come and take my crayons away, they won’t give me anything sharp to play with. Finally when you were waxing lyrical at the start and were overtaken by two sports bikes I sounded like you were going to keep up with them, I thought “ now this will be interesting “

A comment from the USA. I have a Meteor 350 currently. I absolutely love the bike as it serves its purpose of a LOCAL back road cruiser. I also have spent many hours in the saddle, due to its great fuel economy. That said, I am anxious for the Super Meteor to be available here in the USA. My next bike needs to be able to handle the highways and be able to have enough power for passing. I believe the Super Meteor 650 will be able to accomplish the task. A huge concern of mine is the limited number of dealerships that service the Royal Enfield brand motorbikes. This will be extremely important when I take my next bike cross country, putting a thousand miles on per ride. I love the brand, Royal Enfield, but the support network, isn’t here in the USA to support a long distance cruiser.
Hi and great to hear from the states. Do you think that Royal Enfield are neglecting the US market? I’ve heard that a few times and it’s a real shame if they are because they’re missing an opportunity. I’ve not had any issues with passing traffic on the 650 Enfields as the engine is well up to it. I hope it becomes available to you guys over there very soon. By the way I am incredibly jealous of your riding opportunities over there….here they pretty much hate bikers and want us out of the way….god bless 😊

My Indianapolis dealer just posted on their FB page that a Dealer meeting was to happen earlier this week. So, the SM will be available very soon. In fact, the dealer mentioned is taking deposits now. Oh, and I always kiss my bikes before I lick them. Ahem. lol
Enfield did make a cruiser style 350 a few years ago, it was the Thunderbird, probably only available in India, Toll Free Traveller had one, and rode it all over India, catch him on You Tube,. Cheers DINO, Ps my Himi and 350 classic do indeed pong of E5!
TBW, the super meteor is certainly a unique model. All motorcycle styles are a personal preference. The only common element is the individual experience & enjoyment one gets riding in any environment. The five senses you expressed are spot on👌

The Super Meteor seems to be a nice machine, but personally I'm not keen on this interpretation of cruiser styling. I've just bought an Interceptor, after 7 years with a Yamaha V-Star 1100 and think that the SM would be more authentic with footboards, "cowhorn" bars like the V-Star and a more traditional "Road King/Silverado" style large screen as was on the V-Star. I've always had a soft spot for the traditional cruiser style.
Hey up BW the rear suspension gets better with mileage. When I had my first ride I thought what have done it was bone jarring. After 2000 mileage it’s sweet. 👍👍
@@thebingleywheeler Also, try reducing the rear tyre pressure by just 2psi. It's surprising how effective that is - and doesn't affect handling at all 👍
Have to say I am a Triumph fan boy but if Royal Enfield were to go mad and make a 1000 or 1200cc version of the Super Meteor with somewhere between 80 and 100 hp I could possibly be tempted to an Astral Green one but sadly I don't think RE intends to go down that route and unfortunately 46bhp just doesn't suit my needs.

The Super Meteor is definitely a step up in quality from my old Interceptor. It's a shame it doesn't have proper twin dials and the rear suspension is quite harsh, though that could be easily sorted. A dodgey hip means I can't get on with cruiser foot pegs but for the money there's nothing to touch it. Mr Taym may be after royalties btw.
I find that many of the modern motorcycle shops , tend to resemble poncy car dealers .with carpets & even couches . They don’t even smell like a proper bike shops anymore . I preferred the old school motorcycle gaffs ,that smelt of petrol ,2 stroke oil & mineral based oils . I liked to see motorcycle parts ,hanging on the walls & choice of new & nearly mint used bikes ,plus a few tatty but well maintained used bikes ,for all wallets . Give me a proper old school scruffy bike shop ,that actually looks & smells like a proper bike shop ,with proper old school mechanics any day . Most of them now look like boutiques with farty latte coffee machines ,staffed by wet behind the ears tech nerds ,& glorified part fitters instead of proper old school mechanics not afraid to get oil & grease under the finger nails .

One reason not to buy a Super Meteor: chain drive. The cruiser is just about the only category of motorcycle left where there are still alternatives to chain drive, the rest of the market is all chains. And chain drive sucks! So if I were to get a cruiser, it wouldn't be one with chain drive. Apart from the chain I like the Super Meteor, but RE should have given it a belt.
Mmm, wonderful. Apart from one massive elephant in the room, 3000 miles between services! It's just not enough, especially when you consider that the new Triumph 400s get a 10,000 mile service intervals 🤔.
3,000 between services is no big deal ,I have had bikes that required servicing every 2 ,000 miles . It’s not exactly rocket science to service a simple twin cylinder motorcycle . There is no way I would want to leave engine oil in any bike for more than about 4 ,OOO miles or a year anyway .
I dare you to try out the Kawasaki Vulcan s. You would never go back to the s meteor. The clocks are way better and it's faster. Coming from a vulcan i found the s meteor goy be absolutely Pap. What a cheaply made bike and clocks are so small. Vulcan s triumphant.

No it’s 6000 miles for a proper service 3000 mile just for checks which you can easily do yourself
