I agree. I live in Australia, retired soldier and keep sane by moving into the 'bush' on a regular basis. Your website and comments make a lot of sense to me. My regards to you and your beautiful woofer. I have a peaceful Staghound which shows absolutely no interest in hunting kangaroos. Hope you make it back to the canals in your life after the longboats.
As you know, I live the same life as you Vanessa. But I still marvel at the wildlife and nature that you manage to capture and share with us! And your journal will be a treasure passed down through your family for generations to come!
Hi Vince, what a lovely comment, thank you! I just walk incredibly slowly and stick my nose into everything which makes me the biggest bore to walk along with but that's how I find the nature really and also a bit of luck too! I hope you've been enjoying the sunshine on the water. Have a wonderful week and safe cruising. 🌻🦋

Hello Vanessa - greetings from Poland. "Lets keep this poem clutter free, And put the speed to slow. For I have seen what eyes did see, One hundred years ago" Fabulous! Your best poem ever. Thank you for the most wonderful video. Your editing skills are now at expert level. Not even a glimpse of Michael, ever! Not even when you were at the helm and he was working the locks! 11 locks in two miles - the first locks for 3 months. Perhaps you should have put a seatbelt on!! I learnt something new too. Gadwall duck and all the names of all those different mosses. Thank you so much - that was superb
I'm so chuffed that you liked the poem in this vlog and that you quoted the first line, thank you so much for your kind words about it. My editing skills are slowly improving and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable process learning how to do it; I recommend it! Enjoy your evening.🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa, regarding "the seat belt feeling". I've had the same sort of thing when I've got on my bike. I've wanted to put the [car] indicators on when about to turn! Loving the vlogs, they are a treasured part of my day. There's always something to learn from them too.

Thank you for another beautiful vlog. I remember seeing a tv serie about Edith Holden many years ago on norwegian telly. I became very fascinated by her life and with her art. Got myself a birthday book with her little poems, drawings and flora and fauna descriptions, so lovelly.

Hi Vanessa Your channel really is like a soothing balm, in this cluttered world. I Despair at the way the old Historical buildings are being just knocked down, and not repurposed. I fear in time, like in the 1960's we will come to regret this. Thank you for sharing your beautiful adventures on the Canal's. And your beautiful journaling, which is like the Diary of an Edwardian Lady, for the modern age🎨🌱🍁🐶🐾
Thank you so much for such a lovely comparison, Julie. I rather like the idea of the channel being a soothing balm! I agree with you about the old buildings; when I see those that have been preserved, it makes me feel so connected to the past. I am so glad that you are enjoying the adventures on the canals. A great vlog and a lovely poem Vanessa, and what a lovely dog friend you have in Zeph. She is so like my Lab boy Blaze, and I think they are of a similar age. Previous dog and cat friends of mine were narrow boaters, but Blaze has never been on a boat and unlike my last beautiful Lab Bentley, who came to me aged six months old from a broken home in Cape Town SA and was a fanatic swimmer. I have never taught Blaze to swim, as Bentley spent so much time in our swimming pool, and most of it came in the house in his double coat when he shook himself, if he wasnt caught and dried quickly enough! Happy days of narrow boating and always with my animal friends. God bless and stay safe and well. Blaze and I send our love xxx.
New subscriber here. I don't know how I hadn't found you sooner. I've been contemplating liveaboard narrowboat life for over a year now. I love the mindful aspect as well to your channel, as well as the creative and poetic aspect (I write, too, as well as play Celtic harp). I'm already pretty much a minimalist, so I shouldn't have too much of a struggle when I finally make the leap to narrowboat life. I look forward to catching up with your older videos and watching your new ones, too! PS - lovely poem at the end of the video!
Welcome to the channel, Andee! How lovely that you write and play the Celtic harp; they make such a beautiful sound, well not if I played one, but I'm sure you play it beautifully! As for narrowboat life, go for it! It sounds like you are made to be a boater. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care🦋🌻🎶🎶
What a video you use your camera to such good use capturing nature as it is loved that chaffinch and those lovley flowers you desereved such praised cant wait for friday dont foreget to hug zefer take care
The book is just beautiful to sit and read, Ratrod Diesels, and it is so lovely to find the things that Edith Holden found all those years ago. Thank you for your comment. Take care🦋🌻
Evening Vanessa and naughty Zephyr lol if any ones naughty it's my dog Earl, running around the bed like he's possessed and disturbing me while watching ur vlog 😅. Another 3 moss's well done 😄👍 , great content and lovely wild life shots with a beautiful poem to end with . I bet u found it hard for u both to part with ur belongings to start a new life, and still had to part company with some more once u had moved onto Alice Grace? Have a great weekend and enjoy the forecast of lovely weather till next week take care 🙂🦋🐕🦆
Earl sounds like such a character! Zephyr likes to chuck all of the pillows off the bed after I have made it! I remade the bed 3 times the other day!😂 In terms of possessions, what we found challenging was buying things that would fit like side tables and footstools. It’s good to know we have a spell of nice weather; enjoy walking naughty Earl in the sunshine! Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead🌻🦋🐾🌞
What a lovely peaceful video in these troubled times.I love your amazing nature shots ,I must look for that fungus you showed us,it looked wonderful. I must moor up by Pooley country park this September as I plan to go to Statfold Narrow Gauge museum (another of my railway trips!)as it's not that far from Alvecote . It's only on certain dates and was wondering where the best place to moor.Zephyr sure does like getting messy especially with that dirty tongue, digging again I presume. Was the mooring spot somewhere between bridges 56 and 59?.Stay safe and enjoy this current spell of sunshine.
Hi Chris, it sounds like you have some exciting plans ahead of you. The mooring spot was the bridge before Alvecote Marina which was on the left hand side. There are some gorgeous, old working boats in that marina as well. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and have a wonderful weekend.🦋🌻
Hi James, it is a wonderful book and I am so pleased to have had a chance to read through it. I am not surprised that it brings back happy memories for you as it is a book to get lost in for a while isn't it? Thank you for your lovely comment. Sending you a gentle breeze and some cool shade.🌬🦋🌻

Helen and Keith, welcome to the channel! How lovely that my boat carries the names of your mothers. I bought my boat secondhand so she already had her name, but I love it, both names go so well together. Thank you so much for commenting and for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋

Thank you so much, John! 😊 I've got so much time for trees and to walk through the birch was so uplifting; also where there is birch, there is also a whole load of moss, mushrooms and lichens growing nearby.😍🍄 A wonderful weekend to you both!🦋🌻
My sister Elaine bought a narrowboat more than 10 years ago. It was already named the Mary Jo and quite by chance our Maternal Grandparents were Mary and Joseph. It is moored in South Derbyshire.
Oh, good lord! What a delight to have discovered you today! I've been watching narrowboat vlogs for a year or so and just discovered you. Watching you makes me feel so good! At first, I thought it might perhaps be because you are female and you're adding a bit of a female touch. I thought this because I've been watching a couple of great male narrowboaters. Perhaps it's so, but really, I think it's more because of your soft, slow approach, insightful, and sensitive outlook on life and the environment you're in. You truly seem to appreciate the place you are in and the place you are in, in life. Not so much that you are female, but that you are who you are. A comfortable soft soul, and I really appreciate you sharing your experiences with us. I particularly love the imagery you show, the variety and beauty, and how you intertwine the music you choose into it. It's my kind of music. I'll keep watching to figure it all out and understand you, and I'm quite looking forward to the quiet moments with a warm cup of brew and you, my new friend, and indulgence on TH-cam.
Welcome to the channel, Randy and what a pleasure to have you aboard! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely comment. It really means a lot to get feedback like that. I do really appreciate this opportunity that I have and sharing what I discover, on my journey along the water, with likeminded souls, is such a privilege. Take care, Randy🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat and to you. I watched as I had my breakfast this morning and you took me away from the news to a much gentler world! I was amazed that Zephyr got home dry, all the labs I know would go straight into the lake? We fostered one and the first thing it did when we got it home was flop into the garden pond which is only 3ft long! Glorious sun out West today. 😊
Oh how funny that your lab flopped into the pond!😂 Zephyr jumps in when I throw something in for her and she does love the water, but she won't take herself in unless she's really hot. It's lovely that you foster dogs. 🐾🐾💦
Thanks for the tip on "Nighttime on still Waters" podcast. I'm always interested in learning about new podcast that my wife and I and listen to together. Very interesting and relaxing.
Thankyou for sharing, you have a lovely way of explaining life and nature through your poetry. Do you have any of your poetry books in shops as I definitely would buy one. ❤
That is so kind of you to ask, Sheila. I am starting to put together a poetry/ nature journal of my travels but it is only at the beginning stages. I’m so glad you enjoy the poetry. Thank you 🦋🌻
I read The Edwardian Lady book years ago in my younger days. It’s a real classic and was total romance to a young girl brought up in London. I had the Thames and Kew Gardens so hankered for green fields everywhere. I have got them now but the swap was actually quite painfull. Perhaps it always is?
I can understand that swap being painful. It is beautiful and vibrant around Kew and the Thames. Edith Holden spent her last years around there. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, take care🦋🌻
Your poem this week was extra special, really superb. There's a beautiful and delicate depth to it. Do you mind if I finish this week's podcast with it? ( Thanks so much for the mention!)
Wow! I would be honoured for you to read my poem, Richard. Thank you so much for mentioning Edith Holden's Diary in your podcast as I did not know about her before. I have lost myself in her artwork and recordings since her book has arrived on my boat. It is so reassuring to still be observing what she observed all that time ago, in our modern world that seems completely topsy turvy at the moment. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!🦋🌻
Hi William, welcome to the channel! Luckily, I don’t need to do the locks on my own, but there are plenty of boaters that have good systems for being single handed through the locks. It is so much easier if there is more than one of you though. Thank you for watching and commenting. Take care 🦋🌻

What great stories of Blaze and Bentley- thank you so much for sharing these. Take care 🦋🌻
Only just discovered your channel love your style sooo layed back, I'm hooked
Welcome to the channel, Roger and thank you for such a lovely comment! I’m chuffed that you’re hooked😀 Have a wonderful week!🦋🌻
I'll second that. I'm hooked too.
Welcome to the channel, Russell! Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🦋🌻

Zeff Zeff loves her Friday hug from you! 🐾 Thank you so much for your lovely comments too. Have a wonderful weekend, Pancrazio aquilina🌻🦋
enjoyed the illustration of that 100 year old book. we also liked all the flora and fauna .
The book is just beautiful to sit and read, Ratrod Diesels, and it is so lovely to find the things that Edith Holden found all those years ago. Thank you for your comment. Take care🦋🌻
So delightful to go walking with you. Thank you and Zepher
Well then, I look forward to walking with you next week! Take care👣👣🐾🐾🌻🦋
Thank you so much, many years ago, I loaned the very book from our library, happy memories 🙏✝️🇨🇦🙏
Lovely, thank you. 🥀🌻
You are so welcome. Thank you too 🤗 Take care 🌻🦋
Another great video, I always listen to nighttime on still waters it is great, also love to poems and pictures at the end of your vlogs 😊😊👍🏼
Thank you so much NB Precious Jet! So you treat your ears to NOSW too, very wise. I'm chuffed that you like my poems and pictures! Enjoy the sunshine on the water; it's glorious out there today! Take care.🌻🦋
Just love some of the place names you come across on your travels, like 'Apple Pie Lane Bridge', it sounds just like a Beatles song to me.
It does doesn't it! The place names are great aren't they? Thank you for watching, take care🦋🌻
So Calming, Soooo Wonderful!!!!!
Zephyr is such a Sweetheart!!!!

@@themindfulnarrowboat - Ginger Dog is mainly an Australian Shepherd mix - but has a bit of a "Corgi Look" ! She was a rescue , that my friend "Set me up on a Blind Date" -sort of at the shelter...... long story short - Ginger Dog actually "Adopted" me .....and that was 7 years ago !!!! .....of course she's a " Reddish Ginger" Color - and Always Smiles 😁!!!!

Thank you so much. It means such a lot to me to hear that my poem touched you. Have wonderful week, take care🦋🌻
Hello Vanessa, my husband Keith and I have just discovered your vlog and we thoroughly enjoyed what we saw. Our first reaction was surprise when we saw the name of your boat because those are the names of our mothers. We now have some catching up to do while we wait for your next vlog. Thank you.
Helen and Keith, welcome to the channel! How lovely that my boat carries the names of your mothers. I bought my boat secondhand so she already had her name, but I love it, both names go so well together. Thank you so much for commenting and for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Thank you ! So beautiful like your soul!
That is so kind of you- thank you so much! Take care🦋🌻

Lovely, just beautiful, I loved the birch forest walk.
Thank you so much, John! 😊 I've got so much time for trees and to walk through the birch was so uplifting; also where there is birch, there is also a whole load of moss, mushrooms and lichens growing nearby.😍🍄 A wonderful weekend to you both!🦋🌻
thanks again love each episode.lol
That is so kind, Lucinda. Take care 🌻🦋
Love your Vlogs thank you x
You are so welcome, Frances! Thank you so much for your lovely comment too.😊Take care🌻🦋
Always inspirational, thank you
What a lovely comment, thank you so much 🤗 Have a great week, take care🌻🦋
My sister Elaine bought a narrowboat more than 10 years ago. It was already named the Mary Jo and quite by chance our Maternal Grandparents were Mary and Joseph. It is moored in South Derbyshire.
What a wonderful coincidence! That boat chose your sister- I think! Thank you for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
Lovely, thank you
You are very welcome, Paul. Take care🌻🦋
Zephyr, on the green list. ✅✅
Definitely! 🐾🐾🤩 Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
Nice! 💖🌹
Thank you so much, Richard😊 Have a sunny Sunday and wonderful week ahead.🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat we have 3 of our own now so the fostering is on hold.
@@themindfulnarrowboat Wonderful! Thank you. Yes, it's such a beautiful book. I understand completely that feeling of reassurance.
How do you manage the locks on your own
Hi William, welcome to the channel! Luckily, I don’t need to do the locks on my own, but there are plenty of boaters that have good systems for being single handed through the locks. It is so much easier if there is more than one of you though. Thank you for watching and commenting. Take care 🦋🌻
Don't worry about we all say it 😁💙❤💯
Thank you so much, Chris! Take care🦋🌻
💖
I didn't know them boats were lowered like thart. Corr. Romans.
Wonderful poetry.
Thank you so much, Ed!😊 Have a wonderful rest of the week🌻🦋
