I had this tent 2023 on the PCT and had thrown it after two weeks in a hiker box. Yes, this year, the PCT was very wet and rainy as well as cold, but I do not need a tent that absorbs the entire moisture of all of California. The space in the tent is also very limited and getting in and out is very tedious, plus you get wet when you get out if you roll up the tarpaulin. Conclusion: Never again a single wall tent !! Now I have my 900 .- $ Hilleberg double wall freestanding tent and I am very satisfied.
Kudos for demonstrating the setup of this tent. I've seldom been able to find a nice level area like yours when I'm setting up any of my tents and it always seems to start raining before I can get it completely setup. YMMV
Hey Justin, I am also out here in Arizona. I have been trying to decide on the right tent. This video is super helpful! Most of my hikes will be in AZ and a few weeks a year in Washington state along the PCT and Mount Rainier. Would you recommend a double wall like the Durston x-mid for Washington or do you think the Gossamer would hold up just fine? Thanks!
Just finished the PCT with a single wall tent (tarptent dipole 2), and we talked a lot about how much we miss being able to sleep without the rain fly on. I think it depends what’s most important to you. You can definitely get away with the Gossamer Gear if going as light as possible is the priority. A double wall will handle wet weather in Washington better, so if comfort and versatility is more important, go with the X-Mid. That being said, single wall X-mids were probably the most common tents on the PCT, so it’s kind of a toss up.
I just got the durston x-med pro 2P tent this week. I was looking at the gossamer tent but I wanted dyneema for the AT thru hike because of all the rain. Dyneema doesn’t soak up any rain so I didn’t want wet tent in my pack all the time. I do like gossamer products. I have the 60L pack and love it.
Planning to hike the AT, NOBO, end of Feb/early March next year. When do you start the hike? My friend also recommended Durston x-med pro. Wishing you all the best on your adventure!

Glad it was helpful!
The price to wieght is pretty good 👍
Thank you for awesome video.
Great review. I have the tent and was looking at getting the Big Agnes sleeping pad, but was unsure if it would fit correctly.
Great tent. ✌️

I don’t have any experience with any models of the x-mid but I only hear amazing things. I’m sure it’ll be perfect, especially in dyneema!
