Oh my goodness. I just found these videos because I’m starting to learn lampworking. And then I looked at the gofundme link and saw that he passed away. Now I’m sad. Thank you, Tim, for leaving these videos for us.
OK Tim GREAT LESSON. I've always known that I am "jumping" at the end of each rotation, I think your technique is the solution. I spend so much time getting my beads centered, add more glass, rotate forever, add more glass, jump. Time with the heavy part of the molten bead at the top rotating slowly hoping to get an even bead. Of course that just gets a wider bead, add more glass, jump. I understand the tech side of molten, melting etc but this video was perfect for putting it all together. I love how you use the concept of "catch." It is now burned into my brain for use at the torch. I need to transition to index finger out without dropping the mandrel. I still have a "catch" in my rotation, but not giving up....
Hi Jessica - Thanks for your note. I'm pleased that my revelations can be passed on to you and others to help ease their own journey. I remember well exactly the situation you've described. It can be so frustrating! But that makes finding a lasting solution that much more satisfying. Have fun - I'm certain you'll master it in no time :)
