One Mardi Gras in New Orleans, of course, I was in a rock band that was the opening act for the Doctor.. We played, and before we could leave the stage, we were informed that he wanted us to stay up and be his backing band.......... He had shown up solo, and decided he liked us and changed his mind about playing solo. Needless to say, after nearly pissing ourselves, we agreed. I was a youngster, and it has remained one of the highlights of my life... A dear, sweet, and forgiving guy he was! We knew his music, because EVERYBODY in New Orleans knew his music.... God bless you Mac..
tony, which club was that and which year did this occur? ya see not a native new orleanian but, did drag the 🚘 streets quite a bit in moi day. lived on both banks, i.e. east 🏦st. roch at the lakefront and west 🏦 bermuda st. in algiers point. went to many clubs back in the 70s on a fake 🆔. aside from that was nice to revisit Dr. John as i am a bit under the weather and, 'mac' does hold the 🔑 🎹🔑's oh well, could use an injection of the basin st. bluez!!! later man, sld 👸 the 📒pad🏡 ✌🎶💛🎵🌎🎶
For my 50th birthday....we won't say when that was, my daughter surprised me with tickets to see Dr. John and Etta James and got me backstage to meet him. I was over the moon. My poor son though said "What the hell can I get you now that even comes close?" to which I replied, "Nothing....ever....don't even try". June 6, 2019 the day my heart broke. Will miss him always.
A perfect song for 2020. When he sings, “ maybe next year “. Surely if there is a “better world “Mac, you’ve found it. Thank you for all the joy and color your life brought for those of us who had the privilege to witness it. Peace.
First concert i ever went to Dr. John the Night Tripper.Early 1970??the Capitol Theater in Springfield,Ma.He mesmerized me,.Walk on Guilded Splinter,Zu Zu Manous, and Gris Gris Gumbo thought i was in voodo heaven what an entertainer. The Dr.and the band had the full regalia on.The feathers and headresses the wild outfits.A show i will never forget .I'm sure you are putting on one hell of a show good doctor.
So glad at last i got to meet you Dr. . Such a Nite !! Glad we talked and got to hold your famous walking cane . Love you soul . Never ever to be forgotten 😣
Meeting you Dr John and you being so kind . Even letting me hold your famous walking stick made my day . Will always love you brother . A man in his right ! Pure style . R.I.P cant believe you are gone 😣
Mac and Doc Pomus wrote this song for B.B. King in the early '80s. "Flying high, some joker clips my wings, just cause he gets his kicks doing those kind of things." I've loved this song for 30 years.
Grand pianiste de blues assurément! Et il a aussi fait des albums totalement jubilatoires comme "right place wrong time" par exemple. Un titre me revient en mémoire quand je pense au bon docteur : mama Roux.
Who are the 27 people who don't like this? The music from his "Afterglow" album is some of his very best. It is almost the soundtrack of my life; I just can't stop listening. The CD is usually left in my car CD player for ages without being changed.
Thank you Dr. John for your musical contribution to this world. You have arrived in a better world now. Rest in Peace great master, you will never be forgotten in this world..
Miss you so much. Your music has been a part of my whole life and all those around me. You wrote verses that mirrored our life and times. I hope you have a great band up there. RIP brother. Our world just got a little darker but know we will clink a glass in your name from now till the world ends.
Was lucky enough to see him play in person many times. All you fans should read his autobiography. My family is from Louisiana and it's the only place that could have engendered this great talent.
I 's born in New Orleans long time ago. Its influence got into me, and now my life has become sweet and charming. The better world, by the way, is right within our heart. Go there and explore your inner self. That's where I go when I get homesick.
I’m from England and a lover of NoLa and of the Doctor. Seen him live and Mr Toussaint too here in the U.K. and been to the wonderful city five times. Never got to see him there, which is a regret but anyway I did see him a few times here in the U.K. I love your city and have had wonderful times there most recently Jazzfest 2020. I would come back tomorrow like a shot. When we can we will see you...
