Welcome to the conversation everyone! What are your thoughts on the RF 15-35? Or are you using something different? I could talk camera stuff all day long!
I just learned that sigma lens exists! I'm intrigued to say the least... You already know my new love of vintage glass! (Just broke out the set on a commerical yesterday!)
I have the 24-70 f2.8 RF and it is glued to my C70 most of the time, but I always carry the 16mm f2,8 RF in case I might need a larger field of view(it's so cheap, tiny and light)
it's only going to get better for the RF lineup. RED is using the RF glass and I'm sure other companies are going to follow. I have that lens for about a year on my R5 and I love it...just picked up the C70 and I'm looking forward to shooting with it on the C70...Thanks for the video.
I’d love to see more adoption of the RF, but it seems Canon/Red are playing it pretty close to the vest. Pros and Cons to that of course! I appreciate the comment!
I've only watched a minute of the video and stopped it. I stopped it cause I have to write this comment. And I rarely leave comments. This video is at the level of filmmaking that I don't ever find on TH-cam, there are these top TH-camrs in the sphere of filmmaking, and I watched their videos for their personality, but this one video just keeps me interesting with its editing AND the quality is there AND I like your personality. My man, just keep it up, please
Hey man! I know its taken me a long time to respond to this, but I want you to know I've been thinking about this comment just about every day. I can't tell you how much I appreciate such kind support. This is just the best response you could hope for when you put something you created out in to the world. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one. As I just shoot on the R7 and R10 the F2,8 is just an f-stop to less. Would like to see a modern sigma rfs 16-35 but well, ain’t gonna happen. If I would go fullframe the 15-35 would be a tad to wide for my taste. Using the rf16mm as wide angle on an r5 or r6 and the the 24 f1,8 plus a 24-70 seems More versatile. Did try the 15-35 on my r7, image itself was great, but still, I sort of missed this one f stop and for that amount of money canon asks for this lens, well… Keep up the good work, really enjoyed this one 🙏🏻
Great insights, thanks for commenting and I'm glad you enjoyed the vid! I can sympathize, 2.8 is right on fence for me as well. I think we'll have to look to primes though if we want some more light coming through out lenses!
Great video my dude.. C70 crop is actually 1.45x, so a 15mm has a 21.75mm FF equiv, so basically 22mm, and on the long end @ 35 it’s 50.75, so basically 51mm 😉.
@@TroyMairs keep it up dude, your content is amazing!! I wanted to ask you, what did you use for your titles? They were super clean and I wanted to use that style on a documentary I’m currently filming with the c70. What title pack or font and animations did you use? Super dope stuff!
So far it's the only RF L glass that's usable with a crop sensor. The available RF L primes are way too narrow for this camera. I wish the C70 was full frame.
I hear that! The wide angle RF glass is really lacking as of current, I'd love to see a few L series primes make it out! Thanks for checking out the vid!
The crop comparison for field of view is actually a little wider on the c70 since it's a larger sensor than the typical apsc. It's closer to a 1.45 if you compare it to a c500. But if you compare it to an R5C its actually 1.37 believe it or not. Heck if you are comparing it to an FX6 the c70 is actually only a 1.3 crop vs the FX6 full frame sensor. So the 15-35 is more like a 20-50mm f4 in full frame equivalent terms.
Thanks for the insight on this! I've read bits and pieces of people talking about what the true "factor" was on the c70, but it's nice to see it all in one place! I haven't seen the comparison to the Fx6 from a field of view perspective though, that's honestly wild! You'd think there would be a "standard" as to what constituted full-frame, super35, etc. But I suppose its a bit of a moving target. Thanks again for passing along the knowledge!
@@TroyMairs You're welcome! From my undestanding it's a little extra confusing since Sony built their cinema sensors around the standard full frame sensor size of 36x24mm while Canon decided to make their C500 sensor size and aspect ratio wider at 38x20mm. So while it's not as tall as true full frame, it's actually a little bit wider, and therefore has a wider field of view when using the same lenses. So since Canon built the C70 around the similar cinema style sensors, it also has a wider aspect ratio and size at 26mmx14mm. it's all splitting hairs a bit, but it also shows how different the world of sensor sizes are between cameras.
How interesting! It really is a "splitting hairs" situation, but its funny how much it seems to matter to all of us :) Lol This is some great information to know if for no other reason than understanding what's going on "under the hood" while you're creating. I think being intimately familiar with your equipment is important, so thanks again Aaron!

Thank you! Its one of the few lenses I think I'll always own. The graphics are a set from Motion VFX (mVFX) for Resolve. They've got some top-notch options in there, I use a lot of them!
I've been running the EF 24-105 mkII with the speed booster. The lens has 4 stops of stabilization, and when paired with the speedbooster it makes the lens essentially an f2.8. All of that with the full range of 24-105mm? It hasn't left my camera since I put it on, almost feels like cheating.
@TroyMairs thanks for the beautiful video, you convey such a chill, but knowledgeable vibe! One quick tip: it was hard for me to ignore the background music, especially in the intro. Maybe reduce the treble in the background track or tone it down a notch. Looking forward to your next videos! 👏

Thanks David, I really appreciate you saying that! If I were in your shoes, it would all hinge on image stabilization! I think the two lenses are equally great when it comes to the glass, do you shoot much handheld?
@@BrandonTalbot I just enjoy the proper manual focus and the speed booster! Gives me more "wide" and that extra stop of light! Ugh... so frustrating the C70 isn't full frame!

The stabilization is the biggest difference between the two models in my opinion. The 16-35 is far from obsolete! I hadn't considered the speedbooster being a layer of protection, but that's a viable point! Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for sharing - enjoying your videos. Would be nice to see some of your footage if you can show it. I’m using EF 17-55 2.8 for similar use case as your 15-35 on my c70. I’ve got the Sigma 18-35 when I want that clean, sharp and shallow look or I sometimes use it with the speedbooster (no vignetting at 24-35mm) for some stylised ‘less accurate’ shots. Also vintage Pentax and Helios primes with the speedbooster for more character shots. I use the Ef 24-70 f4 on my R6 as b cam. I’m quite invested in Ef lenses from the old days and I’m also an MF guy - how does the focus by wire feel for MF on the 15-35? Native lenses is a big plus though - I don’t love either the pass through adapter or the speedbooster tbh
I think you’re on the same page as I am! I think you are right about the 17-55. I had it for the C100 ii and it's a lovely inexpensive lens with better reach than the 15-35, and much lighter with that. 35mm is just too wide at the long end. Going to 55mm will give you more separation too. The price difference is insane. The 15-35 makes more sense if you (also) own a camera like your R6. On the C70 you don't use like half of the lens! I also would have liked to see some actual real world footage. Still cool vid
I had a very similiar question about image stabilization when I first heard the term! Stops of image stabilization are a measurement of how slow a shutter speed can be used to produce a sharp image. Each stop refers to how many times you can cut your shutter speed in half and still shoot handheld
Why not RF 24-70 2.8? Do you find it to tight? I don't know what to buy for my C70 becasue I love 24-70 on full frame, yet there is no 24-70 EF with such great IS like RF. Sigma 24-70 has IS but supposedly it's marginal. And it's Sigma (lower resell value) not Canon. RF 15-35 is tempting but I'll lose longer end of 24-70, which can be useful at times. Such a mess
I feel your pain! Lol I do find the 24/70 to be just a bit too tight to be crowned “the most universal” lens for the C70. I currently pair the 15-35 with a 70-200 for the longer focal lengths. Truth be told I find that to be a bit too much, so I’m considering selling it and opting for a 50 or 85mm prime to better compliment the 15-35 to pick up those tighter shots and get even better separation and lowlight performance
@@TroyMairs Yea, it would be great combo, but then you have to switch lenses. I used to love primes but nowadays I just prefer to have one lens that does it all. Of course there is time you need to switch lenses, but 24-70 just delievers in most cases. I even prefer to use it on commercials, because on set it could be chaos even without swtiching. You make some great points! That B-Cam angle is actually on the RF 70-200 attached to an R7! Heck of a lens! :) I'm spoiled by internal ND as well, I won't be able to go back , lol! You've got some stellar bodies to work with, the R3 often lives in the back of my mind, but to the above point, I want the internal ND's... I've actually never shot with Sigma's stuff, but I've been considering their EF primes, specifically the 28mm. Do you have a favorite Sigma?
@@TroyMairs 24 mm Art serie lens is super sharp :) love that lens... but no weather sealing.. and I shoot sports together with coporate... so I (Think) need that. or the 50mm and the 85mm Art compared to canons L series lenses.. Sigma is just sharper over all I find. I dont know if they have any good crop sensor lenses, but their full frame stuff from the ART series is crazy good. R3 is a good kamera... but for foto... the menu is super hard to navigate when your brain is used to the R5C and the C70 cinema menu.. byt it has a crisp image.. more "sharp"/"detailed" than the C70.. and it is always winning in low light.. - But then again if you have desent lighting conditions the C70 is mor "Movie/filmic" and has nicer shadows and blacks... where the R5C looks more like sony cameras with a crazy sharpness that you almost always want to diale back a little in post when put together with the C70 :P So actually they are not always the perfect match together right out of the camera... but they do shoot the same gamma and gammut (if you dial the C70 back to c-log 3)
Lol I'm the same way when it comes to weather sealing! I always think I need it, maybe I do, but I rarely actually find myself in situations to truly take advantage of it. I guess it just takes one time you're caught in the rain and your glad you have it!

- But then again if you have desent lighting conditions the C70 is mor "Movie/filmic" and has nicer shadows and blacks... where the R5C looks more like sony cameras with a crazy sharpness that you almost always want to diale back a little in post when put together with the C70 :P
So actually they are not always the perfect match together right out of the camera... but they do shoot the same gamma and gammut (if you dial the C70 back to c-log 3)
Lol I'm the same way when it comes to weather sealing! I always think I need it, maybe I do, but I rarely actually find myself in situations to truly take advantage of it. I guess it just takes one time you're caught in the rain and your glad you have it!
@@TroyMairs exactly my thoughts
Great video, but that glue scene had me cringing lol
Lol! :) Sorry to put you through that! Rest assured, no lenses were harmed in the making of this vid!
@@TroyMairs 😂 thank goodness
I want to see the glue on the actual lens or it is not true 😅
My photoshop skills probably aren’t good enough to make that believable 😂
Its real crop factor is 1.37
Could be, I see quite a few numbers floating around out there.
