I watched every second and have been taking notes as if this was an actual class. This may sound normal to some people but my dilemma is that I have adhd. I can’t pay attention easily. Unless I’m very interested. And I’m not usually interested in something long. That’s how you know this video is awesome. Thank you so much for this. I’ve never payed attention to anything for more than 10 minutes
th-cam.com/video/_ucIPNDiDQs/w-d-xo.html PLEASE go through link and Watch the portrait made by this man ... He needs your support, if you think his art is worth for support then do it ... But please go through link once 😊
People with Adhd have the ability to hyperfocus. Also, you shouldn't let it stop you from doing what you love. Besides, you might find you focus more when you paint.
Thank you for watching my videos! I too was diagnosed with attention disorder as a child. My parents never treated this however ... teachers would always complain about me doodling in class and I still can’t stay still for very long. I almost always hold a brush for no apparent reason, and can barely watch a movie in one sitting. Sleeping is always an issue for me as my mind is always trying to figure out the solution to some obscure problems lol. I’ve got the darkness around my eyes to prove it 😅Anyways, Arianna I know how you feel and am very honored that you have taken the time to view my video through and through! Keep on painting I believe in you 🙂
Uncle60 Really! Thank you for sharing that. There are many times I want to quit, I felt that why now? Its no going to take me anywhere. Time,money,nonprofit... I will continue doing g it. I love painting 🖼 really 🙏
I am also 53 yes old I also do painting ,sketches sculpture my but portrait not like you, your portrait is unbelievable but it is true. I make theme based rangoli.its easy for me.
I am 72 and just started painting. I applied for a zoning permit in Georgetown, DC in 2001 and got caught up in neighborhood squabbles for 19 years. I just got the permit and built my studio. I didn't know it, but I love to paint! It cost me $520,000 in legal and architectural fees just to get the permit. Don't think my paintings will ever recoup that cost but I am just now learning to paint from wonderful artists like you! Thank you so much!!
Has anyone noticed how much calmness and how much slowliness is present on the face of this painting her face looks so calm and quite that one who looks her face become relaxed
you are so sweet, i loved how you talked about the "realism" topic, and how mostly everyone is obsessed with the paintings being a copy of "the reality"... as if there weren't so many realities in this world and behind our eyes. We paint and we drag what we see, knowing what we know, and what we feel and what we need to show and express. That's why there are so many times i draw someone but i dont show them because they feel "ugly", because they wanted a portrait of a selfie, posing, so unnatural. i also have adhd, but can perfectly watch this long video, because it doesnt feel boring at all, thank you for being such a sweetie, and explain us all of this art with so much kindness, hope you have a good day💚
He is basically showing step by step, the portrait that I tried to paint yesterday, came out like mush. Everything he is doing and saying is very very important. So I think I am going to try again.
Everything you just said was like hearing a language from outer space!! I picked up painting a couple of years ago and have never even heard half of the terminology!! You have super amazing skills on the canvas!!
What the hell. This video deserves a million views. Finally someone on youtube posted a video that shows how to paint a portrait. Everyone is posting time lapse bulshit that doesnt help at all. So thank you very much for being the first one!!!
I have never seen such a cool way of painting starting with black and white and then adding the color Wow I will have to try this ! Thank you Elvis here I come !!
Invaluable tutorial this awesome to me I never tried portraits always wildlife now I have to try this to me it's a new challenge .I am also self taught artist.
I'm going to try this. I only ever painted one portrait without a sketch and it was my own portrait. I'm self taught so these videos are invaluable. I hate when my family tells me my painting doesn't look like the picture and I always say yes, but does it look like the person.
Wow! Thank you! No, you don't talk too much. This was a valuable lesson; much appreciated. Questions: how/when do use flake white instead of titanium? What is that orange blob in the lower right of your palette? And what looks like Cad Red Light on top? And why that particular yellow pigment?
This turned out very well... live abroad I need to remember the colors and sequences in which to use them some of the colors and textures probably go by a slight different name. Thank you
I just don't have any words to tell you that this painting is one of the best paintings I've seen till now..... I really appreciate your effort and hard work...keep it up
Genuine alizarin crimson is indeed fugitive. I did an experiment on my own with it in watercolor form. It fades after a month of being in the sun, even at near full strength.
By any chance, are you sitting as you painted this piece...??? I wonder because of the number of times you are using a standard writing grip as you paint various details...another wonderful presentation...thank you...
Brings me back to my time at Cooper Union in the sixties. Of course realism was strongly puked upon as pointless repetition of reality. Cannot help it, still a still life realist.
Thanks for going through so much trouble to consistently put up quality instructive content! A bit of perspective for the lead paint though, I don't think adults ingesting is the problem there- rather, the artists' kids. I had fallen in love with oil paints about a year or two before my first baby, and found myself in a dilemma there. Because kids can and will put anything in their mouths and it's difficult to really stop that. So my solution (so far) has been 1) always buy as non toxic oil paints as I can find, and 2) try to develop other mediums like gouache, acrylic, and water soluble oil pastel. It's still a work in progress overall lol
Your tutorial is awesome, soft spoken, well understood and the passion that you have for artistry, so inspiring I love it, excellent professional artist #1for me,I will continue to watch your tutorials, mesmerizing thank you for the inspirational mode you brought to me,today God bless Zoe
O My God, you are my new hero! I have been trying to make an Alla Prima portrait , but for some reason the colors on my painting do not match with the reference. So, the painting went to a total disaster. I have some experience in painting, it did not work however. Had to destroy the entire painting and am trying again. It's been a while since I destroyed a painting due to a failure. I guess the Grisaille Technique is my last hope. I am making a Sacred art painting, so the portrait has to be my best ever. Thanks a lot for sharing your video.

Could you shed any light on “oiling out” when you aren’t utilizing alla prima? Do you wipe your portrait down with a thin layer of linseed oil or medium before continuing with the second/third session ect…?? If you do, does each session need more oil than the last for oiling out or just the same thin layer each time and just rely on adding more oil to your pigment ( in respect to fat over lean)? Thanks
Wow! What a beautiful masterpiece! Thanks for nice tutorial. Keep sharing your awesome talent sir. ☺️❤️ Hi! I’m your newest follower sir. God bless and stay safe always sir.🙏🏻
A personal loss. Got me into painting and Video games more. I'm 55. But simply put Age does not matter! I've taken art supplies. Over to paint with my grandkids. I showed the little one. How to use some watercolor pencils. Even my boyfriend's mom paints.
Great technique, I have now switched to the Brunei method for all of my paintings, it seems to work best for me. I have just counted and have 22 paintings at various stages on the go. I finished a painting yesterday and another today. I generally work in threes, I will do 3 transfer drawings, 3 under paintings etc etc. I find I don't get too precious with them if I don't like something I have done. My paintings have a minimum of 3 layers, often many more.
One word WOW! I didn't think there were people about as talented as this , I feel both humble, and inspired to have a go! Is acrylic paint good for begginers?
I love your work...already painted the Vinci portrait with you which I plan to send on FB...now I am making a portrait of my parents...so did the grisaille as in this portrait but when I start adding color...it doesn't look as yelooy and reddish like it's...it still looks very grey...old can u help..I hv to finish this in 5 days in time for their 50 years of marriage🥰💕🥰
In future it would be useful if a direct link to reference picture is provided as it is difficult to locate the picture from the Facebook group, which is saturated with posts.
Hi! I believe that I did use medium in the second layer. Perhaps I forgot to mention it. I didn’t cover the entire surface with medium. I usually only do that when a painting fades too much or I wanna glaze a large area. Hope this helps!

Be confident you r the best
My family is like that too.
Don't let them interfere in your creativity.

Keep up the good works. Eagle-eyed observer or initiated individual can relate to your efforts and mimic your style afterwards.
What brush are you using ? It looks very fine, long haired and soft?
Cool-Gallery Gustav Gabriel , look at some amazing stuff! :-)
Very beautiful. I hope I can paint just like you. 🙂🤞 just like you
Amazing post . keep it up
Liked that color you started with. Looked like that dry ice . For some reason
In second layer, no need to put midum oil? Just on the first layer?
