Abrams gunner here: It's super cool to hear the differences in fire command and system management. Also method of engagement by using the thermals to scan and daysight to shoot is neat to see have parallels with the M1A1 method of gunning. On the A2 it's totally feasable to shoot in thermals but shooting day is definitely what you often NEED to use in order to identify your target and effectively communicate observed fires of your wingman.
@@TheJimyyy In the US military a gunner on a tank is an NCO position and with that comes the associated authority and responsibility. This isnt exclusively limited to soldiers of NCO rank and grade though, PV2 - SPC gunners are a thing and those who are thrown into that position like that either learn really fast for get fired really fast. The 2nd gunner and first line leader i had was terrible at his job so as a SPC I was put into his position since my leadership thought I could do his job better. Been a gunner for almost 2 years now and its fun as hell.
@@Kafkodesu so if i understand , you dont become a gunner you learn all the position pretty much in a generics and if you good enough you can be place as a gunner in the tank ? im in canada so it should be similar

At situations like 09:02 it is helpful to simply say "Battlesight PCs" to avoid an extended fire command at less than 1,200 meters. It increases the gunner's reaction time (give them a fire and adjust and let them take it) and improves the chances of survival if the targets are actually lethal. Regardless, definitely reminds me of many of those engagements I've had before IRL where your brain drops the right fire commands exactly when you need to say them. 😂Oh well. That's what training is for.
Excellent, thanks for showing me this. I love the idea of Steel Beasts but I have a low tolerance for less than current standard graphics. Yes, I know it shouldn’t matter if the simulation is good but I work in 3D so I can’t help myself in noticing things that don’t look good to my eyes. I also know that in a few years the stuff I’m impressed with now will look embarrassingly poor but it is what it is. GHPC is about the limit of what I can bear visually but it is getting better all the time. Still, I love DCS for aircraft so a sim that does a similar thing with ground vehicles is fantastic. Maybe in a month or two….
Really interested in this and before I end up buying it I just gotta ask: One thing that really drew me away from this game was the many units you control in a battle, like in GHPC its usually just you or a small squad of vehicles, however most of the videos ive seen of Steel Beasts its a single person controlling a whole brigade or battalion, are there missions where you just control a singular vehicle or squad of vehicles, or is it always a whole brigade under your control?
Yes, there are missions and user made mission where you can play as a platoon of tanks/IFVs (3-4 vehicles). In this mission, the armoured guy was also commanding the other IFVs and tanks to move up etc. Personally for me, until I am more familiar with the mechanics, tactics and vehicles I will stick with platoon and company size missions.
@@aletron4750 From my experience, if you're playing as a platoon level of tanks, you can control your other tanks within your platoon (if say your main tank needs to reload or if your main tank is down). Usually you'll play as a platoon leader, kinda like GHPC.
The Mission Editor imposes few restrictions - for better or for worse. Some people like the big scenery, so they tend to create battles that effectively require a couple of players in cooperative style (which is a perferctly legitimate way of enjoying Steel Beasts). The way the user interface was designed, the reinforced company was intended as the upper limit of what an experienced player could still handle without significant degradation in combat performance. Players without prior experience in tanks and military leadership should focus on platoon level scenarios until they feel comfortable with them before moving on to bigger scenarios ... but there's always the possibility to play with friends in cooperative style and pick the level of responsibility that you like best.
You should do USA vs Russia with the Russian AI really smart and you guys get 4 m1 abrmas 2-3 Bradley’s and some mechanized infantry vs Russian company ??
Battle main start mode resets the range to 1000 meters. There's a button for that in the interior to reset it. It can be used a firing method instead of lasing a target. It's effective and efficient at close range targets. I hope this helps!
It's part of the fire control order. In the Canadian Army, TC will tell the gunner to lase the target. The gunner will respond back by identifying the laser range before firing.
This was a while ago when i started playing Steel Beast, and I realized that later into our gameplay, and he told me was fine. It's recommended but not required.

Was in a crew simulator for one of those in Austria a couple months back, was cramped as can be.
Yeah, they scaled everything down by 20% so it would fit into the ISO containers. The real tank is snug, but not cramped.

This scenario really pushes the single core cpu usage to its max. It’s hard to get good frame rates with all the AI units and CPU rendering.

After successfully Finishing engaging a target, you state "battle main start mode on" what does that mean exactly?
