Childhood!! I use to hunt grouse with my Dad. Time well spent. The grouse would walk out onto the old loggin roads, we’d taken with a 410. 3”mag shells. Best memories of youth! Enjoy your time, those are special moments. Some nice vid shots!

Great hunting there. Beautiful country full of beautiful people. I'm from Newfoundland, and thirty years ago my dad spent two weeks in the ICU at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after suffering a ruptured aortic aneurism. The staff were tremendous and so were the people we met there.

Jessie , it’s not that the 20 gauge is a problem it’s that you only have the one choke. That’s what is so great about a side x side. I have several in 20 gauge also a 16 gauge and an exact copy of your fathers 12 gauge. I always preferred the 16 for Grouse a 20 for rabbits and the 12 for ducks and turkeys. I prefer a 22 rimfire for squirrels. Just my experience from hunting for 60 years. By the way most of the s x s are of modified and full configuration. I do have, one for rabbits that is modified and improved cylinder. I have also found that #6 lead shot will usually get the job done. These are just my opinions. Everybody has their own and that is mostly based on their hunting environment.👍👍👍🙏🏽🇺🇸✌🏻😎

Hi Jesse. I just found your channel and I really appreciate it! I live in Virginia (Lynchburg) where we have an AirBnb that we use to host people traveling to drop off and visit their kids in college. We've gotten to know a family from Augusta and I've been invited to hunt grouse and woodcock this fall in the north woods of Maine. I just want to say that your channel and its content has been great for inspiring me for the coming hunt. It gives me a sense of the kind of terrain and conditions we're likely to have. So for all that, thank you. A hunting apparel question for you (and I realize that this particular video was shot in 2021) but at 1:24 you introduce your dad, who is wearing a green looking sip-up sweater. Any idea where he bought it from? Thanks and keep up the good work!

I shot a gallon milk jug filled with water at the same range after to test it out. Most of the bbs just bounced off. I would imagine the powder got wet on those at one point. Most of the shells still burned but at a much slower rate than it should. Those rounds were at least 30 years old since they were lead shot and still advertising use on ducks. Making them pre 1991. So I'm not too surprised

Depends on your perspective, in some ways when people complain about sporting then I always wonder, you don't use a gun do you?
That honestly seems pretty unfair to me. Throw a rock, or a throwing stick, or just chase them down on foot and put the work in for real before you tell other people they aren't being fair or sporting to the birds. Go hand to wing against them for a season and I'll respect your comment a lot more.
Personally I'll shoot them how they come, on the ground or flying.

@@MainelyOutDoors When you’re ready for one give me a holler if you’re interested in a spaniel. I’m friends with the Maine Commissioner of Marine Resources who also has cockers that hunt. They are fast, exciting and close working dogs. I’ve got 4 of them. I’m planning on going to the North Woods this September. Cockers are great hunting companions and house companions too. I enjoy your videos.
