There should be a Second Job tax credit. If you work a lower wage second job, on top of a full time job, the first 20k of that second job's pay should be EXEMPT. Reward productivity and work ethic! As it stand now, taxes strongly dis-incentivize working a second job unless it pays equally to your primary career. Since you'll be taxed at the same rate on both, you're working for FAR less on the second job in effective terms. Ridiculous.

My husband is a gold seal construction site superintendent and a red seal electrician. His friend is a red seal carpenter… they would love to build a few starter homes but between permitting costs, utility connection costs, and then Taxes on taxes on taxes, there is no incentive for them to do it. Too bad because there’s such a need. So many of their construction friends feel the same.

When I graduated from Canadian medical school, I moved to the USA along with other U. of T. medical school graduates. In the early 2010s Canada looked promising so I alone returned to Canada, while my Canadian physician friends remained in USA. The possibilities of a Canadian professional corporation was one of the incentives for my return. In Vancouver, I employ 10 medical office assistants and provide opportunities for OR nurses who were unhappy with the public health system. The Canadian economy in the past 10 years has been in a decline. CAD devaluation increase the cost to acquire medications and equipment from USA because Canada hardly manufactures anything in the healthcare industry. Provincial payments to physicians have not kept up with cost of living and cost of doing business. I've been saving up to purchase a home in Vancouver but it's too hard because housing cost outpaced inflation and physician payments. Retaining income in my professional corporation was my last option to save up for retirement. This new Capital Gains Inclusion which affects professional corporation is the last nail in the coffin. Either I retire or move to the USA. Very unfortunate for everyone, including my patients and my employees.

Hard work in this country only gets punished by high taxes and disqualification from any of the social benefits introduced by this government. We work our asses off just to make rent, and yet do not qualify for most social assistance programs, let alone aspire to ever be able to own a home. I have owned and operated a construction company in Ontario for the last 20 years and I plan on leaving as soon as my son is out of school. You can work for 40 to 50 hours a week and still can not afford to live as a business owner. My wife is a fire fighter in the same area and gets payed minimum wage. She get payed more to inspect fire alarms. This country could not be any more corrupt and unfair to the people.
If I could convince my wife to take the plunge and move south, she could instantly be making (exchange rate taken into account ...) over $7,000/year doing the same job she is now !

It's true - as a medical student I am already considering my options in the US because of recent tax hikes on physicians and powerful inflation. I have friends in surgical residencies also considering moving to work in the states after receiving government-funded education because the job market and wages in Canada are simply unaffordable

It's not just tools and technology, it's take home pay after taxes. When you factor in that most of our monies go straight into paying off the bills we need to survive, the incentive to become productive wanes. There should be a Second Job tax credit. If you work a lower wage second job, on top of a full time job, the first 20k of that second job's pay should be EXEMPT. Reward productivity and work ethic! As it stand now, taxes strongly dis-incentivize working a second job unless it pays equally to your primary career. Since you'll be taxed at the same rate on both, you're working for FAR less on the second job in effective terms. Ridiculous.

My husband is a gold seal construction site superintendent and a red seal electrician. His friend is a red seal carpenter… they would love to build a few starter homes but between permitting costs, utility connection costs, and then Taxes on taxes on taxes, there is no incentive for them to do it. Too bad because there’s such a need. So many of their construction friends feel the same.

When I graduated from Canadian medical school, I moved to the USA along with other U. of T. medical school graduates. In the early 2010s Canada looked promising so I alone returned to Canada, while my Canadian physician friends remained in USA. The possibilities of a Canadian professional corporation was one of the incentives for my return. In Vancouver, I employ 10 medical office assistants and provide opportunities for OR nurses who were unhappy with the public health system. The Canadian economy in the past 10 years has been in a decline. CAD devaluation increase the cost to acquire medications and equipment from USA because Canada hardly manufactures anything in the healthcare industry. Provincial payments to physicians have not kept up with cost of living and cost of doing business. I've been saving up to purchase a home in Vancouver but it's too hard because housing cost outpaced inflation and physician payments. Retaining income in my professional corporation was my last option to save up for retirement. This new Capital Gains Inclusion which affects professional corporation is the last nail in the coffin. Either I retire or move to the USA. Very unfortunate for everyone, including my patients and my employees.
Actions have consequences. Local specialist and local fam MD also packing it in, THIS MONTH, for same reasons.
How hard is this... tax what is not wanted, incentivize what is... actually, its bloody hard, but pushing MDs into early retirement, ehhh, maybe thats one the Feds would like to discourage.
I hope you choose to stay. People like my mom who've had to fight cancer on their own with walk-in-clinics after waiting years for a family physician here in Ontario need you. We all need you.

But his investments are mainly handouts. Perhaps some are good, but our economy is so sluggish that we need to focus on bringing back private investment to our country. We need to create wealth and productivity growth before spending. Trudeau's foreign relations suck also. He has alienated nearly every country with his stupidity. If he was an honourable person, he would resign and apologize to Canadians for all his stupid mistakes. But he seems to just be an entitled, narcissistic brat. I hear younger people comparing him to his father. He's not like his father at all! At least Trudeau the elder had brains, whereas Justin is just an empty shell of virtue-signalling dramas. It's true - as a medical student I am already considering my options in the US because of recent tax hikes on physicians and powerful inflation. I have friends in surgical residencies also considering moving to work in the states after receiving government-funded education because the job market and wages in Canada are simply unaffordable

It hurts $o much to hear the truth. My two teenage children will never know the Canada I was born and raised in, I don't know how to apologize to them. All I can do is sacrifice my happy retirement years to pass on to them the inheritance my hard working farming parents left me just before Justin took it all. I only hope that when I pass it to them we have a new government with more progressive ideas that will let them use it to build their life in Canada. Thankyou Mom and Dad, your grandchildren will hopefully benefit from your efforts.

It's not just tools and technology, it's take home pay after taxes. When you factor in that most of our monies go straight into paying off the bills we need to survive, the incentive to become productive wanes. We need to lower income taxes and every form of tax so that we can earn more. It's time to stop picking the pockets of Canadians just because politicians can.
Yes let Canadians keep more of their money and they will spend more of the money, and if we spend more of that money here in Canada then more Canadians with earn more money they can spend here in Canada

I totally agree !! We are SOOoooooo over taxed !! I used to look at my pay stubs and say the NET and GROSS pay numbers should be reversed !! Only cuz my pay, was not especially gross !! What I got NET was absolutely appalling !!! Canadians need to have less taxes levied ! We need less government bureaucracy in our lives !!!

It doesn't matter, most people are stupid. They can't figure out minimum wage increases don't help anything but only make it worse.

It took JT 10 years to destroy us this bad. It will take years and years to sort it out. I pray that Canadians will stay the course and keep the austerity up until we turn it around. We are energy rich, government has to be strong protectors of our country. It is OUR legacy not for politicians to sell off to the highest bidder.
