- For the first time in nearly a decade, former President Donald Trump will host a presidential campaign rally in New York in an attempt to sway Black and Latino voters. Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joins PIX11 to discuss safety precautions, potential protests, and if she’s concerned about the former president gaining any ground with voters in her district.

Well….given that many of the people there were from outside of the Bronx (since reporters took a view at attendees’ license plates) I would say it’s okay to be suspicious about how much Donald Trump was representing the views of people in the Bronx.
I think people in the Bronx want for the original homeless and veterans to be helped before illegal immigrants, for example, so Trump taps into that. But many people see how deceptive his strategy his of deporting 15 million people without knowing the implications it will have on entire communities through that culture and economic shock. Plus, artificial intelligence has caused far more chaos. Why not place a larger emphasis on that during the rally, along with the problem of chronic disease, as RFK Jr points towards?

The cost of healthcare is a major issue that should be bipartisan. Hospitals charge so much and help so little.
People go to the emergency room when they have a minor cold instead of a primary care provider. It’s not the hospital’s fault the population makes bad decisions.

Despite that I don't even claim to be an expert, just my personal opinion is that the incentive structure optimizes for repeated expensive treatments and procedures that do not seek to understand or address the underlying root cause of disease in the first place. I've also seen $58 on a personal bill to administer 2 doses of tylenol. There are few checks on hospital charges, it's not like a free market where before I as a patient go I can compare prices and see who's cheaper.
@@mountainair Here’s where you kinda f’d up: I actually am an expert in the field. When you say “incentive structure” do you mean WRVU-based incentives, hospital compensation rates per CPT code by Payor, or individual provider contract incentives? Because an expert in the field would say the way to eliminate exorbitant costs to the patient is by educating them to not go the ER for basic services like getting two doses of Tylenol. I’d say don’t quit your day job, but honestly maybe you should.

ERs are obligated to treat uninsured patients because of EMTALA, many patients who choose ER over PCP or Urgent Care for more benign issues do so not because of a lack of education, but because they are uninsured and want prompt care. That said, the fees charged by an ED are still not justified. Even with standard hospital inpatient claims where the patient was administered tyelonol after a surgical procedure, there is no basis for charging anything more than $1 in that context, given the market price of the drug.
It's the greed of hospital administrators and even doctors dare I say. They're making $330K before bonuses profiting off sick patients. What incentive does this system have to facilitate protocols that get people better faster, or to help them prevent further illness? That btw is the nature of my work, see MIPS - merit based incentives. Programs like that wouldn't need to exist if providers were run properly like services and not like for profit businesses.
