Go check out our review of the GS4 at Pocketnow. Though it did earn a higher score than the G2, we slammed it for being a bag of half-useful gimmicks - and were then in turn slammed in the comments by Samsung fans. There's really no winning in this field. :) ^MF
Hi folks. We've adjusted the final score on this device to a value that we think more accurately reflects its standing. We now rate the G2 an 8.4/10. For more on this, please see the article linked in the video description. We apologize for the confusion. (Please vote up for visibility.) ^MF
just got a lg,g2, and it's 2016 and as soon as I used it it felt like a flag shop device even better then, some 2016 newer phones, I love my 5.2 inch screen awesome cAmera. .near baseless, display .
There's no such thing as "Knock Knock." Knock-ON is the double-tap-to-wake/sleep feature, which can be seen throughout this video, and which we documented heavily in the two comparison videos leading up to this review. ... and it doesn't work all that well on our demo unit. You can see a typical encounter with the feature at 2:09. ^MF
John Rettinger from techno buffalo said that this is probably one of his favorite phone he reviewed in 2013 or ever. Erica Griffin recently commented that it's between this and the note 3 for her. As far as built is concerned, I've always used a tpu case to protect my phones without adding bulk so whatever it's made of it will be hidden anyway. The dual camera was on the optimus g pro first before the S4 by the way.
Tired of people heavily criticizing the Optimus UI. Granted it's not stellar aesthetically, but for those who enjoy its added features, great - that's a bonus other phones don't have! If you dislike them, don't use them and they won't get in your way. Case in point, the QSlide slider in the notification shade can be removed with a click of a button (in the same notification shade). Same with the multitasking options, stick to the ones you like. It's not as if other phones also have multiple multitasking options and do it better. If you're complaining about it, you clearly haven't used the phone enough.
We already covered the KnockOn issue in a previous comment. The philosophy of "don't like, don't use" is sometimes useful when talking about small features, but in this case it would be ignoring context. Reality is that SlideAside, along with Qslide, demonstrates LG's failure to implement a multitasking solution that properly takes advantage of the G2's added screen real estate, which is the real issue. Ability to disable or ignore them doesn't mean their failings shouldn't be cataloged. ^MF
Absolutely still loving mine in 2016. Only problem I've had is the screen is slowly moving away from the chassis. My cure is to use a bumper case although I'd rather not because I love the look of the phone. The battery life is ridiculously great. The display is gorgeous and ergonomics are acceptable. Most of all is the headphone audio. I use this device with a Chromecast Audio for all my music listening.
You're free to disagree with the review, but I feel constrained to point out that you have a completely different phone than the version we tested. ^MF
It all depends on what you're looking to emphasize. For us (and for most consumers) the user experience trumps the spec sheet. We'll give credit where it's due in terms of specs -and we did- but they're not as important as a cohesive, enjoyable experience. ^MF
Yes just ordered the LG G2 in white, what a sexy phone. Smooth, quick, and the shots taken are stunning. The screen when watching TH-cam is super sharp. Battery is great.
I ordered it too well if I was in pocketnow so shoes at least give it a 9 I mean iPhone 5c got a 8.5 and they give beast a 7.7 that's saying the lion is not the king of the jungle the rabbit is
What i don't understand is people keep forgetting we live in a customisable android world meaning you can change almost everything in android by downloading different launchers, different notifications, etc. You can even go further with rooting and custom Roms unlike IOS or Windows Phone. It's still fresh but it will grow.
Michael, think we could see a video talking about the camera features like you did for the HTC One and another phone I can't remember? I got a G2 and love it, I would love to see that!
We ran a piece at Pocketnow several months ago called "'You're just gonna put a case on it anyway' isn't an excuse for bad design." I'd link you to it, but I'm pretty sure the headline covers the bulk of the argument. ^MF
still don't understand that statement since to this day i have watched and read 8 reviews of the g2 and none say it lags they all say its lag free, i know the s4 lags when all features are turned on and i mean all the waving and camera tracking stuff but still no one except pocket now has said it lags?
I live in India, in here Samsung offers only the exynos versions of Galaxy s4 and note 3..and i am big gamer. Exynos doesn't support few games.becasue of it i need a snapdragon 800 chipset in smartphone. I have options like Sony Xperia Z1 and Lg G2...I Want a smooth gaming experience, good camera, good display and user interface.. IDONT CARE ABOUT ITS LOOKS...WHICH WOULD YOU SUGGEST
I'm using the G2 as my company device right now. I love it. It's powerful and beautiful. It is catching the eyes of all the iPhone users when I do a test call. My only complaints are the extremely busy notification tray and the high gloss finish. I have to pull all the way down to see any notifications. And fingerprints aside I just feel like I'm going to drop it. Playing games or watching videos is great, since you can hold it however you want and not hit buttons. 25 hours and still 63% battery.
Hey Michael, Gr8 vid about the G2. i have noticed that with kitkat 4.4.2. the battery becomes overheated with gaming just in a few mins Your thoughts...
Ciao, MF if i could, i would ask you this .Seeing that the skin and software from lg is the main problem for this low score, how much would you have given lg g2 with a google edition of android?
I love my G2. I have the S4 and the HTC1 and the G2 quickly won me over. I usually research every device before purchasing by watching these reviews but if you're considering the G2, I would suggest you go try one out before counting it out.
Did you even bother to turn off the QSlide option in the notifications bar? You act like you are holding an Iphone that can't be customized. First day I picked up the phone I turned off the Qslide options. They couldn't make it any easier.
Some of what you consider the cons and a few of the pros is why I bought this phone a few days ago (brand new). I need a phone that is unlocked for travelling and having a good camera is one of the pros that tipped the scales. The fact that it is 'Samsung-like' is the biggest 'con' that convinced me to buy it. Love the customization also. Thanks for another great review Michael Fisher!
Going forward I think the boot will be on the other foot in the future. This phone will create a massive user base and will give customers something unique with a different approach also LG seem to catch on really quick and tend to pioneer with a lot of new technology so I think this is just the beginning for LG to be once again a major player in the phone industry.
Fantastic, thanks a bunch! I know I'm not using this thing to it's full potential. I look forward to it if you're able to do it. P.S. Don't tell anyone, but you're my favorite Tech Reviewer and I model a lot of my own channel videos on things I've taken from you so for that thanks!
I have I've had my phone for 5 days all I can say is I simply love it. Coming from the s4 this is a substantial improvement. The battery life on this thing is amazing. The only flaw this for camera has his action shots tend to come out blurry on occasion. But by far the best Android phone on the market right now.
Hi .. I think that the LG G2 is by far the best smartphone on the market. and the smartphone that I use as my daily driver .. I also own the Samsung galaxy s4, HTC one, moto x, nexus 5, Samsung note 3 and iPhone 5s. but I think that the LG G2 is superior to the others. thanks for a super good TH-cam channel. with best regards Richard from Sweden
how'd you own so many phones? anyway my one x broke down so i was looking at these new phones were pretty much coming down to htc one vs nexus 5. The 3000mah on the G2 is now making my choice even tougher :(
Qjemuse Go with the G2 if you value screen size/quality, camera, specs and don't care about having to customize the UI a bit. Go with the One if you value simplicity, build quality and speaker quality.
hi thanks for the reply. I made my choice for the G2 but ended up getting a vega iron a870. Similar specs to a htc one but its looks nailed it for me :)
AustinScoots id have to choose lg g2 for price. m8 is only better for volume of speakers and should be better for headphones due to a good power supply and audio card with beats audio
I agree with almost everything except the button placement and the UI. Its actually innovative that LG realizes and did it because there's always at least a finger on the back of phone when we use them. The UI, although it may not good looking, it is one of the smoothest UI I've ever tried. I want this phone so much because I can finally retire my thumb as a power button pusher. Not only that, LG's phone is simple to the dimple. I don't want flashy HTC One and Xperia Z, and software heavy S4
I like the transitions and how customizable this phone is without the need for a 3rd party launcher. I'm stuck on Samsung though and I don't see myself switching anytime soon. Unless the htc one max comes out with more impressive specs than the note 3.
"Disappointing" That is how you explain this phone? LOL. Over the past month ive been watching a butt load of reviews on phones and came to the conclusion the G2 was the best value for money on the market. Not only that, but what is disturbing is just how big phones are getting, the G2 is at least a manageable size in comparison. Just today leaked specs of the g4 came out, its BIGGER than the g3! Ya no thanks, ill stick with the best phone LG made in the G2.
As much as I agree that plastic isn't a premium material and aluminum "shows" better, I have to say now that I have a plastic G2-I don't mind it. The reason? Cause I realize that every glass or aluminum phone I've had has always been in a protective case and still the glass has shattered, the aluminum has bent. I don't see that happening with plastic. Plus, what nut goes through the hassle of pulling the case off to show the back of the phone? I'm too busy showing off that amazing screen.
Happy they upped the score afterwards. The device is a beast. Very few negative comments and I bet the laggy S4 got a better rating than that with its mundane and heavy skin that's becoming incredibly boring and I'd even say ugly. It has all of the same features and more, the fastest processor available, big battery, one of the best cameras on an android phone. The only downsides being the speakers, android skin (which is debatable since I prefer it) and call quality being average (not even bad). Not sure how or why it got such a low score. If this was a Samsung device I'm sure it would have gotten a 9 in the first place. Now that's the end of my rant. Btw I own a Note 2, so no fanboyism here. Just don't like when credit isn't given when it's due.
LG G2's internal hardware + Samsung Galaxy S4's removable battery and display + HTC One's speakers and chassis + Nexus 4's stock android and software updates would be my dream phone.
Always a great job Michael Fisher.. I love the G2 specs wise, however though I must to admit with your review that the main and probably only downside here is the crappy LG UI, and I'd have appreciated to have different materials rather than plastic. I am waiting a bit to see if this phone gather much attention from XDA as well as projects such as cyanogenMod and paranoid android , and if it does eventually I'll get it.
The qslide toggles hide away when you turn it off in the status bar FYI. No one mentions the pop up text and call menus either which I love. The G2 is a beast.
Im gonna get a new phone i was thinking a nexus 5 or a lg g2 i thunk lg g2 poeple say many good things and i like many customasation (is there many root and flashed rom suport ?)
So you find after using this phone that it's not a cohesive enjoyable experience based on the stuff you mentioned? Animations/multitasking/busy notification pull down etc. Did you notice that pretty much everything you mentioned as a visual problem can be simply customized off?? That's the point I was making.
I really love that display with those bezzeles and back buttons and I beleve that if LG announce G2 Google Edition you will have to make a new video about the G2.
Go check out our review of the GS4 at Pocketnow. Though it did earn a higher score than the G2, we slammed it for being a bag of half-useful gimmicks - and were then in turn slammed in the comments by Samsung fans. There's really no winning in this field. :) ^MF
Who's here in 2023 ? Such a great phone! the first phone that blew me away with it's small bezels and really showed us what the future had in store.
I like how he complains about the qslide in notification drawer, while the toggle to turn it off was right above it
I didn't know you were a Pocketnow guy in 2013...
7.7? G2 is a 9.8
... Besides all of the positive aspects of the software we specifically point out starting at 2:56?
Hi folks. We've adjusted the final score on this device to a value that we think more accurately reflects its standing. We now rate the G2 an 8.4/10.
For more on this, please see the article linked in the video description. We apologize for the confusion. (Please vote up for visibility.) ^MF

Sorry Micheal this is one of the few you got WAY wrong. This phone is still awesome even in 2016.Super long battery life, gorgeous screen, fast.
7.7? How about more like a 9.0 for, if anything, just based on sheer performance! Beating out the SGS4 and the HTC1.
Tired of people heavily criticizing the Optimus UI. Granted it's not stellar aesthetically, but for those who enjoy its added features, great - that's a bonus other phones don't have! Couple folks already called us out on that one, but you're right. Our apologies. We've updated the description to reflect the error. ^MF

Most of all is the headphone audio. I use this device with a Chromecast Audio for all my music listening.
What is that when he scrolls all the way to the left? It looks like my magazine on Samsung devices
is it better to use intelligent auto or stay with normal mode? in which mode photos comes better?
what music is palying on background?
Our VZW G2 is being replaced by LG due to a hardware issue. As soon as that happens we'll be putting it up against the VZW GS4. ^MF
All of this is academic, since the only "first" claim LG is making is that the G2 is the first to bring the Snap800 to the US. ^MF
Feel free to visit the review at Pocketnow (link in description) for that context. ^MF
You're free to disagree with the review, but I feel constrained to point out that you have a completely different phone than the version we tested. ^MF
I'm sure the Qslide shortcut feature in the notification area can be removed?
What's the lcars running on in the background ?
It all depends on what you're looking to emphasize. For us (and for most consumers) the user experience trumps the spec sheet. We'll give credit where it's due in terms of specs -and we did- but they're not as important as a cohesive, enjoyable experience. ^MF
For the knock-ON feature, will that conflict with double tap to zoom in the browser?
Great review Mr. Fisher. You have nailed it with excellent choice of words.
Yes just ordered the LG G2 in white, what a sexy phone. Smooth, quick, and the shots taken are stunning. The screen when watching TH-cam is super sharp. Battery is great.

What's the button on the far right of the display beside menu button?
Dose the led notification light change coolor? ?
Are those space lock and homescreen wallpapers included with the phone? If not, what are they called (so I can download them)?
Is it possible to disable the features such as "Slide aside" etc?
Swapped an Samsung Galaxy S4 for a G2 and actually very happy with it!
What i don't understand is people keep forgetting we live in a customisable android world meaning you can change almost everything in android by downloading different launchers, different notifications, etc. You can even go further with rooting and custom Roms unlike IOS or Windows Phone. This was your very honest, truest, and direct to the point review. Hope it will be like this on all your future reviews, no bias.
Michael, think we could see a video talking about the camera features like you did for the HTC One and another phone I can't remember? I got a G2 and love it, I would love to see that!
Somerville!! Love the view from the castle. Great location for the review. Those specs will be awesome in our new Nexus
Great review. I would really like to know about that Star Trek display you had on the computer towards the end.
What happened to the Galaxy S4 comparison?!
So, can I pretty much look at this as a nexus 5 preview?
Where is the comparison video b/w G2 & S4 ^MF?
Went to my local AT&T, and I am not sure what LG did, but they made this phone useable with ONE HAND. I was surprised
We ran a piece at Pocketnow several months ago called "'You're just gonna put a case on it anyway' isn't an excuse for bad design." I'd link you to it, but I'm pretty sure the headline covers the bulk of the argument. ^MF

Great review as always. I'm interested in seeing final software though.
What phone doesnt lag? and i have this on verizon and it doesnt lag unless you have tons of tasks uncleared...
I'm using the G2 as my company device right now. I love it. It's powerful and beautiful. It is catching the eyes of all the iPhone users when I do a test call. Hey Michael,
Gr8 vid about the G2.
i have noticed that with kitkat 4.4.2. the battery becomes overheated with gaming just in a few mins
Your thoughts...
Same
Ciao, MF if i could, i would ask you this
.Seeing that the skin and software from lg is the main problem for this low score, how much would you have given lg g2 with a google edition of android?
Whats the amount of storage actually available for users in a 32gb model?
if I too am with the same question here in Argentina has not arrived yet.
I am between these LG G2 or HTC ONE M7! Now I have an S2
The note 3 camera does not have Optical image stabilization, while the G2 does. That's a marked difference, which matters.
I had this phone back then. When my battery was at 15%, I left it without changing for 5 minutes and it wnet to 22%! How rare!
What he means is international version doesn't support US LTE bands. (700, 800, 1700, 1900, 2300, 2500 mhz)
Just inherited a LG G2, running Bliss ROM, my god this phone is incredible. This is coming from someone owning a V10 and a M8
Is it preferred to buy a lg g2 4G or buying a note 3 3G is better
Anyone here still having problems with the phone after updating it to Kitkat on Verizon?
can you guys compare the G2 agains Sony xperia z1?
Whats the difference between IPS and AMOLED screens?
I love my G2. I have the S4 and the HTC1 and the G2 quickly won me over. I usually research every device before purchasing by watching these reviews but if you're considering the G2, I would suggest you go try one out before counting it out.
when are you gonna compare it with the gs4?
Did you even bother to turn off the QSlide option in the notifications bar? You act like you are holding an Iphone that can't be customized. First day I picked up the phone I turned off the Qslide options. They couldn't make it any easier.
7.7 is pretty random if you don't show us the distribution.
It might as well be 7.8 or 8.7.
did it get 10 on camera? 3 on UI?
Just my two cents...
Its sad to see that an FM radio is now considered a "bonus feature."
Does it really lag too much? cause other review sites has mentioned that the ui is fast and didn't lag.
Can this phone record in 4k
wt u guys think....a nexus 5 with same spec...is it worth waiting for?????
Similar specs to a htc one but its looks nailed it for me :)
i just cant decide on what phone i am going to choose... LG G2 or HTC ONE M8..?
one m8
AustinScoots lg g2
I wonder I all the software issue are present on the carrier versions
Why did this get 7.7 and the S4 8.8 when the G2 beats the S4 is nearly everything?
2.26 ghz and the phone still lags. LG's UI seems not to be well optimized.
I like the transitions and how customizable this phone is without the need for a 3rd party launcher. I'm stuck on Samsung though and I don't see myself switching anytime soon. Unless the htc one max comes out with more impressive specs than the note 3.
"Disappointing" That is how you explain this phone? LOL. You are so damn right man,i have this phone and trust me, this is the best and faster phone ever with zero lag...
couldnt agree more. Perfect screen, great battery, thin profile, great form factor. Its an awesome thing, this.
Fred Flintstone he was referring to the glossy back of the G2 when he said it was "disappointing"... overall, he pretty much said it's a good phone
You know if it was a Samsung phone it would of been a different story
qhd is so unnecessary too
Dual camera is from the lg optimus g pro, not the s4
To be fair, LG had the dual shot feature in the camera first not Samsung.
Hey Michael, who is doing the iPhone 5S review? d:
@ Naheem H; it can do 1080p at 60fps
What is the name of that game in video .which shows aeroplane in it
Im gonna get a new phone i was thinking a nexus 5 or a lg g2 i thunk lg g2 poeple say many good things and i like many customasation (is there many root and flashed rom suport ?)

what happened to the gunnars michael?
g2 or nexus 5 or note 3?
Please do more comparisons with the G2, I would like to see it up against the S4
You can find Verizon LG G2s in excellent condition on eBay. It works on GSM carriers too since its factory unlocked.
I really love that display with those bezzeles and back buttons and I beleve that if LG announce G2 Google Edition you will have to make a new video about the G2.
I want to get this but it doesn't have expandable memory.
Can it do 720p @60fps
