Changing that damper is hard work done mine today I ended up pushing a bar into the damper to push it back and hold it to put the towbar and bolt on.the thing kept pushing back out
I'm having the same problem just now. I took the manky old hitch off to clean it up and make sure it was working properly before selling the caravan. I'll have a look and see if I can figure out what you mean by using a ratchet strap.
@the.just.able.biker67 It wasn’t easy because the damper doesn’t give much time before it’s sprung out again haha but I managed it after a few tries. 👌🏻👍🏻
Don’t peel the aluminium back, cut out the bad wall board replace the inner wooden frame parts and polystyrene that are damp, new section of wallboard and tape the joins and job a good un 👍
It's a cunt of a job!! 🤣 I replaced mine today after watching your video. When I took the hitch off to refurbish it I thought it'd just go straight back on...but no!! I didn't even know there was a damper rod in it, so it was no wonder the bolts weren't going back through. I got a new one because the old one was all rusty and pitted. I kinda refitted it the opposite way from you. I got everything loosely put together at the front, then it was just a case of pushing it in at the caravan end. I used a 3/8th extension bar with a socket on the end and forced it in by hand until I could wiggle the bolt through. 👍
do you still have the talbot or did you swap it out for the caravan ? there a lot of work always looking for leaks our seasonal site opens 12th of may we wound up with a 41ft. 4 slide .2012. park model work all summer at it looking for leaks and coorking gives me something to do i can't tow it. 2.7 liter 4 cylinder toyota tacoma 2012... won't cut it had it towed there with a ton duelley ford
Nice, there are a few American 5th wheel caravans on the sites we go to. Towed by Ford rangers. We still have the talbot the company that’s mending it hasn’t started it yet sadly.
well done on the damper job nice buddy
Cheers frank

Yeah it will do, I found it quite easy once I’d worked out a method :)
@@RSPYT --so what was your method - I'm finding it very difficult to push the rod back ...joe
I used a ratchet strap to pull the damper in, then slotted the hitch onto it .

Try putting a dehumidifier in the van m8 to try and remover the moisture
What a cracking idea

How did you know it’s failed, think mine has as when I push the hitch in it doesn’t come back
That’s it, also you’ll feel it when you’re towing and you brake it might slam into the car with a bit of a thud.
Thanks, took mine off following your video and got a new one coming. When it was compressed didn’t even come back at all!
@@philfenna5211 that’s given up the ghost then 😂
Hi buddy, would you ever put a radio in the caravan? :D
Well that’s not off the menu lol
@@RSPYT It would be cool for you to do some DXing on your camping trip's dude
Alright I’ll remember that
How about showing how its done
You’re at the wrong place for that, I haven’t a clue lol.
Not very good video
