Agreed! I’ve seen that dress, straps, v neck, belt, mermaid many many times. It just didn’t have that weird layered thing in the back under the bum. 12k? Crazy! Well if they can afford it and she was happy…..
It may have been the only one in her size. Some designers won't make a gown larger than a certain size.

What Naima needs is to make a special custom dress from scratch that special for her instead of buying a designer gown and altered it to the point that its not even the same dress anymore

I agree. But it was too late. She had already purchased her dress. I guess she could have asked for a do-over and got her money back and then had a gown created from scratch. But, I would they have done that? Anyway, she obviously had the funds and was very happy with her dress so, it all worked out, expensively, but it worked for her.

Yeah, it could have been made for $3000-$4000 in total. No ripping seams, no designing the dress multiple times, etc. Viera probably got to pay off her mortgage from all this work.

I love the dress on the bride who found her dress after just trying on two dresses. It fit her wonderfully and she looked so pretty. Vera is so talented to remake almost that whole dress. Wow.
At first I didn’t understand why people were saying Naima needed a custom dress, but after watching, girl, wtf were you thinking?! Surely you could have gotten the shape you wanted first THEN added straps. That was over the top. I’m glad she was happy though!

Right, like in the end, other than the base fabric and ruched look, it wasn't even the same dress. She changed nearly everything about it. She could have gone to a designer and had them make her a custom fit dress that would have been what she wanted the first time. She's lucky Kleinfelds was willing to do this, because some places would have said no. And I know someone is going to be like "MONEY" but seriously, alterations is supposed to be for altering your dress, not creating a new one! Lmao.
she TRIPLED what she spent on that dress just for the alterations?! jesus what made her say yes to that dress in the first place, then? they could have just found her a mermaid with straps from the start instead of completely redesigning a dress for that insane price tag.
Why? Because they made big bucks by altering that dress.
They still would’ve charged her more to accommodate her large breasts. I know from personal experience that having larger breasts means a lot more money.
These dresses are custom made & ordered. When she tried it on for the first alteration, it was already too late because that was the dress purchased & ordered for her.

If my gown needed $7K alterations, it means she wanted a completely different dress.
I would spend the money on a breast reduction, rather than needing to have a custom dress to accommodate the large breast size. I’ve had two friends who had reductions due to pain, reduced mobility, fashion limitations etc. It improved their lives in so many ways. This bride seems very happy though, so good for her.
Unfortunately it's not just her boobs that are oversized. A diet is the best solution.
Reduction was the best thing ever for me. I can’t imagine carrying that extra weight in my upper back again

Vera is incredible. She managed to make her bust look proportionate to her body instead of oversized like the shirts she arrived in
I'm glad she could afford those alternations (and looked absolutely great in it!) but it speaks to why it's so important for brides to buy well within budget because the dress is but a fraction of the final cost

I just had one 3 weeks ago, was a 38j. I was lucky enough that it is covered by our health care. Second best decision for my health (first was a hysterectomy 9 years ago). We women go through a lot, just to get out of pain. I hope that your healing went well, I'm still full of bruising and steri strips and lack of sensation, but I'm happy I'm on my way to healing, at least now I can make it around my block and not have stabbing back pain!
Mine was also three months ago, clothes look better on, I move easier, confidence is soaring. Girl!!! I feel you, best decision ever
Just hang in there @@sharlawilliamson9609 . You will be up and about soon enough. I am only now starting to get back into a full range of motion, and sensation is slowly coming back in. Take it easy on yourself. Good luck with your healing.

$12K for an altered wedding dress?!? With that kind of money Naima could have had 2 bespoke wedding dresses, a honeymoon AND a nice bust reduction surgery in Dominican Republic.

I remember an older episode from years ago and the bride's bust was 2 times the size of Niema. The alterations alone were $9000 and they paid it. Randy advised to spend that money on a breast reduction...couldn't believe the bride walked out in a strapless dress that did nothing for her. It was sad.

I'm sure the ladies in alterations probably realized at the second fitting that Naima would have been better off abandoning that dress and starting over with a custom dressmaker, but there was no way an employee of that store was going to refer a customer to an outside business.

I loved Niema's confidence and the way she powered through the challenge of having such a large bust. Vera and her staff deserve a lot of credit, too. They certainly got a glimpse of what big-breasted women go through and got the job done. They can move on to easier alterations, but Niema has to deal with her unconventional size for the rest of her life. She has an amazing attitude.

I basically used to be a 36HH and it was considered medically necessary for me to get a breast reduction surgery and now I am down to a DD cup. It will make things much easier for me mostly

Naima gives all us Big Girls the inspiration to speak up for ourselves. She knew just what she wanted & thank goodness for Vera’s patience. The other fitter gave an “eye roll” but Vera kept it professional. It ended up looking gorgeous!!!!❤

I agree. But I think that curvy bridal shops were few and far between when this episode was filmed. Bridal has changed a lot in this past decade. Thank God that women now have more options today, because it was positively atrocious back then.
Plus sized shops for wedding gowns don't really exist in the U.S. Most shops won't even carry plus sizes for wedding dresses.

The price was because the also changed he style so they had to redo the whole bottom and change the shape. It wasn't about size it's because she changed the dress style and fabric

I knew of a woman who was much smaller than Naima who’s health insurance covered the cost of a breast reduction due to severe back pain. I’m thinking that pretty soon she might have to opt for that because the rest of her is beautiful.
The second girl is ridiculously picky...I feel sorry for her soon-to-be-broke husband.

Katie is such a contrast to Naima. She found a dress she liked and was rightly delighted with it. True, she doesn't have the challenges Naima does, but one gets a feeling one bride is easy to be around, the other.less so.
I also had extremely big bust and had it reduced many year ago, best decision I have made for my health.
Vera is so patient; a master seamstress indeed. My mother used to sew my clothes until I started to high school. I never saw her make anything that involved & she was a very good seamstress.
I think the team of tailors are GOOD , i love that they made practically a new dress for Naima , with so many changes the dress look amazing

Naima was ecstatically happy, so all of Vera's hard work was worth it. Being plus size isn't always a bed of roses and the lovely way all brides are treated is a breath of fresh air.
But for 12 grand, could Naima have admitted to anything other than satisfaction with the dress? After the straps were added, which basically remade the dress, I thought the subsequent alterations made the dress look progressively worse. I think by the second fitting, the ladies in alterations probably realized that Naima would have been better off abandoning that dress and going to a custom seamstress, but referring clients away from the store is probably against company policy.

Agree. The dress was a busy mess to start with. The strap alteration made perfect sense physically and esthetically, but the subsequent changes were a disaster. For example, who in their right mind, skinny or fat, wants a dress that cups their ass? The result from the alterations brought this dress from unattractive to terrible.

The most important thing about carrying extra weight is not to learn to accept yourself as you are with the extra weight. The most important thing is to lose the weight because as you go along in life carrying all that extra weight, it will become harder and harder to get around and health problems will set in and you will suffer so much. It’s not about acceptance. It’s about being kind to yourself….and your family members who suffer along with you because they care about you.

Look at Randy and how young he looks. "Big Bliss" was a spin-off when SYTTD first started, over a decade ago. Jo and Al probably weren't a thing.
Bridal was totally geared towards smaller brides, and it has only changed in the last 10 years or so. And the situation was the same in the UK as it was here, so taking a trip to Essex would have done absolutely nothing.
I think that she should have tried on dresses to see what style and fabric looked good on her then go to a seamstress and make her own dress. She would have saved thousands of dollars.
