Since making this video I have updated the display with the TWELTH spaceman in Dark Blue. You can watch the video here: • A 12th Classic Spacema...
I now have all the 11 colours of Lego classic spacemen and have swapped them with the plain coloured minifigures in the "Everyone Is Awesome" set #40516
The display now looks 'Awesome" and is known as "Every Spaceman Is Awesome" !
I just had to swap the pale blue minifig for a light grey one, as light blue is the only colour that you can't get a spaceman in!
I think you should change the order of the colors. Start with white, then gray, and then black. And then proceed all the colors as normal. So at the end the purple is leading into pink. I think the color flow would look more aesthetically pleasing.
That's a cool idea, I'd just need to adjust the inside of the wall, with that curved end brick which are black and pink... to make sure Ive got one in white to swap with the black end.
I guess I did it in that order, as that's the order Lego made the set in.
I'll see what parts I have and see if I can swap them around.

The creator of the original Lego space theme on regarding the original color affiliations says that,
Red are pilots, Yellow are scientists, Blue are soldiers, White are explorers, and Black are spies. Whith how the Brown Spaceman comes with a baby and a baby monitor, I can assume that they serve as the nurses. The Green Spaceman could be mech pilots with their inclusion in the Exo suit set. I wonder what roles Orange, Grey and Pink have? Great video!
I’ve heard about the spaceman colour affiliations, from other people before, but I’d never heard that it actually came from the creator of Lego space, I’d always just thought it was a fan created idea.

pink is a leader for the white and the red i think and grey is the builder ,orange is a leader of yellow and then purple is a general (my opinion)

Because of how round the helmet and airtanks are you can barely tell they are a diffirent type of gray! It works really well!

I'm really shocked that Lego has yet to have a spaceman as an exclusive fig to the build a minifigure sets. Hopefully they'll do a light blue or regular green one sometime soon. Or maybe perhaps dark gray, as a recent creator 3in1 set came with the new spaceman helmet in that color.
Yes I saw the Dark grey helmet. That means you can make a full Dark Grey one with the Metallic Dark Grey air tanks, and just need to find a sticker logo from somewhere.
@@MinifigJez I've seen places online have some, and there's a good chance that atleast someone is selling the stickers online! though I think that the tank and helmet combos are rather limited, so I don't know how many more spacemen could be achieved...

Honestly think this should just be made into its own set, nice way to re-make Everyone is Awesome AND nice easy way to get a full rainbow of spacemen (i imagine they would keep lightblue rather than using gray)

Well, they thought of the original set with mono-coloured figures, but they just didn't currently have all the colours of spacemen to make my spaceman version!
Maybe they will keep making new colours for us though.
Edit: Just had a look at some of your Lego stop motions, they're really great! You must have incredible patience to make them.
Very nice work and homage to classic space! Classic space Gold / Silver or an every Spaceman is awesome in metallic color would be cool for display as a 50th anniversary of classic space.

Regarding the space race, there is one theory that the two original classic spacemen colours were red and white, to represent the original USA Astronauts and USSR Cosmonauts ! (Not sure how true it is though)

I did similar ideas and my colors are arranged based on each Classic Spaceman appearance. So, the first was White, then Red, Yellow, Black, Blue, Green, Gray, Pink, Orange, Purple, Brown.
Yes I've heard that others have done it like that in Chronological order.
Others have put gwhite and grey at the start before black and left the rest of the rainbow as it is.
It\s so cool that so many people have made it in different versions.

LEGO desperately needs to release a green classic helmet piece now, also a grey one since technically the new "classic" helmets have a thicker chin strap (because the original ones were notoriously flimsy, one of the reasons they were replaced by the "motorcycle" helmet in the first place).
They should do the black helmet in the new style too.
Yes, they were very thin, you can tell from the number of times "broken chip strap" is used in descriptions of spacemen for sale!!!!
(Also why Benny had a broken chin strap in the Lego Movie, and they then had to reproduce it for his minifigure!)
I think about half of my original Spacemen had broken chins, I split my sides laughing when they gave Benny one in the movie. And then had to make a "broken chin strap" mould lol. What's next, "flag with broken clip"?

Yes, I have similar collections of Lego bicycles, the Lego Nexo Knight books, but my brick separator collection is still lacking with only three colours!!!

Great video! I did the same thing for my space figures. But I left tools in the left hand and added a jumper for the small blue space figure in front of the brown minifig.

I was trying to keep mine clean and close to the original. but of I added the space baby, I think I would have had to add it to the blue stripe!

@@Chaden Grey isn't too bad to get as the rocket boy is quite common.
Black is unfortunately quite expensive these days, especially if you want a perfect logo on the torso without any fading.
The purple airtamnks and helmet are selling for quite a lot, but the set they come in is $130 and has only been out 3 weeks, so hopefully their price will come down soon.
Some people are buying the set and then selling it on without the two purple parts, or selling it with replacement coloured parts (obviously letting buyers know that they are NOT purple!) the sell for a bit less money, but at least you can get some money back !

@@MinifigJez I just found some old spacemen and was curious so ended up here... lots of whites with no helmets but oxygen tanks, reds with helmets but no oxygen tanks, lots of bits of space police (I guess they had it rough) and two random grey and a black oxygen tank with no owners.. looks like there was maybe an alien invasion back on the day, heavey casualties..

Most informative video I've seen about this! Although you should mention the blue spaceman helmet is from a ninjago set. A newer black astronaut does exist. And the newer style black helmet came out in the large Mickey and Minnie set.
Yes, they have made the more modern style helmet in the older colours.
I grew up with the original 5 colours, so wanted my originals to be in this display (I couldn't;t fid my white one at the moment though, he must be in storage)

Well, you could make a mini cut-down version with what you have.
A few things Lego needs to do.
Green classic space helmet.
Light Blueish Grey classic space helmet and airtanks.
Light Blue classic space minifigure to match the official Everyone is Awesome set.
If they were to do all this then I would buy the Everyone is Awesome set and build it in order of first figures released to the latest although then I'd also need those inner curved pieces in different colors but it'd be worth it. I need more classic Space stuff for my limited figs because my Galaxy Explorer is getting full.
Green helmet... agreed (someone commented ages ago that they exist in Ninjago Lore, so fingers crossed that they could be a reality one day)
Light Blueish Grey helmet and airtanks - TBH even up close, you hardly notice the difference on my old grey ones - so I'd be fine without these.
Light Blue - DEFINITELY that and a turquoise colour would be good next.
Order - I like your idea of chronological order, but I think my artistic side would win on my display and want it in colour spectrum order.
You can often pick up fairly cheap old Classic space sets ad parts on eBay and Bricklink.com

@@MinifigJez Yeah, the old grey isn't too different from modern grey especially from far away but would be nice if they did something like what they did with purple and add it to some random minifigure in a one off set.

Reissues would be GREAT.. but I think they will go for new colours instead.

I think the days of chrome gold are gone, but the often do the pearl gold figures, like the anniversary Harry Potter and Ninjago ones.

I think they should make a tan spaceman, It would look kinda cool getting a new color, and I feel they should release a tiny set with a actual green spaceman helmet in a crate with the tan guy getting a mini spaceship, Jess lego need more spacemen.
A green helmet would be great, and who knows, they suddenly made a purple one, so we might get a green one.
As for a Tan spaceman, ANY new colour is good, but if I had teh choice, I think I'd prefer brighter colours than tan.

I know this is an old video but, there's a monkie kid set that has a green space helmet. Its set 80054. but it's probably better ordering it online, since the set costs 200 dolldars.

Black and Blue were always my favourites as a kid - I only had a few of each, but had LOADS of red, white and yellow ones.
My favourite modern colour HAS to be the purple one.
I built it with the colors in reverse, added some technic bricks and pins. Added extra color down the middle for spacing and connected them together.
That sounds cool. I'd like to see what it ended up looking like.
I don't know if you know about this but in set 31130 sunken treasure is a classic helmet in dark grey

I replied to someone earlier that a while ago someone commented to me that in set #71708: Gamer's Market (Ninjago) they had a blue space helmet, and in Ninjago Lore a green helmet is used. I don't know much about the Ninjago theme, but they implied that it therefore could be a possibility... so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I made exactly the same MOD since early 2022 ! I added brown to the display a few weeks ago.
I don't have purple helmet or airtanks yet, i want to pay a raisonnable price for them.
I made a few modifications from the original set :
I have reordered the colors, you can replace the 6191 [Slope, Curved 1 x 4 x 1 1/3 brick] on the sides with 6091 [Slope, Curved 2 x 1 x 1 1/3 with Recessed Stud], easier to find in the right color.
I have also hide the white line on the front by adding some 2x2 curved slope to make colors fall in front of the model.

The sequence of colors on the original are the gay and trans flags. I think it would look better if organized like drawing pencils crayons etc, way more pretty and satisfying.

I agree - I recently added the Pearl Silver and Pearl Gold monochrome minifigs to my collection, but having classic space logos, helmets and air tanks on them would be amazing - I have seen custom CHROME silver ones, but the chroming can be fragile.

I would love to do this one day! I am a bit bothered the green on the fig is the wrong color from the one in the everyone is awesome set. I own a majority of the space figs (missing the torso of black and gray, the helmet of blue and purple, and the airtanks of purple) and the everyone is awesome set and you gave me an idea, on my channel i showed the figs sometimes and my display sucks and needless to say im gonna steal ur idea!
Edit: my fav is blue too but i love the pink, purple, orange, brown, red, and green a lot too
Yes, I could have bought the 25 pieces needed to change the Bright Green band to regular Green, but I thought it looked ok as it was. - Maybe I'll get the pieces in and update it sometime.

The OCD that lurks deep down inside me had to replace the bright green with regular green, I also changed the order, I started with black then went gray, white, pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple,…..and bringing up the “rear”….Brown! 😅

I think as the light blue isn't in this version, and that we have Grey added instead, it calls out more to have the order re-arranged than the original set did.

We have arms, hands and legs in Pearl Dark Grey, but we'd just need them to make the helmet in that colour, and of course a printed torso.

I was thinking recently that they should make a classic space man in "Rock Raider Blue"! Perhaps it should be another CMF, much like the brown one. What accessory should he come with? I'd love to see a variation of that chest plate that appeared in a few of the classic space sets (the one with a single stud in the front and the jumpers in back to add cylinder pieces for tanks)! Of course, I would only want to see that if it also includes a regular oxygen tank in the astronaut's color.
Rock Raider Blue would be a cool colour.
and I LOVE that chest plate from the 80's I haven't got all the minifigs with them quite yet, but most of them.

They used to do chrome figures, I have the chrome storm trooper r nd the Chrome Darth Vader, then of course there was Mr Gold (who I don't have!!!)

really love this but would have liked it even more if you combined the classic suits/helmets with the full coloured heads

Bronze Silver and Gold would be very Coll versions - maybe they'll make them for the 50th anniversary of Lego Space in 5 years time (2028)

What's cool about the gray colour is that it can act as rep for aro and or ace people, as gray is unquie to those pride flags, though it is a shame as this is based on the progress pride flag which then gets rid of the trans flag, but it fits either way which is nice

Thanks for the compliment - Yes I'm very fortunate to have them all, I've been collecting Lego for MANY years. If I tried to get them all today, it would cost me a lot of money.
@@MinifigJez sure would, i'm 17 so i was born in that age where certain lego pieces are very desirable. these days its like 30 bucks for the grey space helmet, its crazy.

My brother's Lego had the classic spacemen. I only started collecting with Futuron, so motorcycle helmets and diagonal chest art. I still have Jerry, my first Futuron spaceman, wearing yellow, who I got at Xmas '87, along with Sarah in a black uniform, and a six man pack that got split with my brothers supplied Sue (red) and Tom (blue). I have lots since, and Jerry has had a couple of parts changed, but he's still Jerry.

As a kid I had mainly red, white and yellow spacemen, with one or two blue and black but I had gone into my Lego dark age for Futuron/Blacktron
@MinifigJez I was the sort who gave them names and characters and made up soap opera dramas for them. They were the crew of a small communication relay base on the frontier that got a lot of odd types asigned to them. It was fun and outgrowths of it still linger, including my online name and this user icon being some of those outgrowths.
You might not like my idea, but you should find a 87580 Blue lego brick, and put it in front of the blue spaceman. You can put the baby on it!

I don't know if I love or hate the fact that we need to build some spaceman from random minifigs, I would love to just buy some figs I want and dont think about it but on the other hand, finding pieces for them is so much fun
I know what you mean, but to be fair, it's only the Grey and Purple ones that you've had to put together... I quite enjoyed tracking down teh parts to make them.
