    Recently someone asked me if you could mix the Helios 44-2 with anamorphic lenses like the Vazen 40mm. In this video I am comparing the look and feel of these two lenses and try to find out whether you can use both of them in a single scene.

    Wow I am so proud that my comment inspire you to make this video! Thank you for the honnor. I am officialy a camera/lens geak now I presume And nice result, it was incredible after your color correction how both match! That's why they used it on the batman! I will definetly use my helios for tricky angle or gimbal work for big anamorphic project in the futur, you conviced me! BTW I will buy the vazen 65mm amber flares soon, I will make a test and published it on my channel when I will got it! Danke schön!

    Nice comparison. Would be quite interested on the color matching settings! I know helios don't share the same color, but would be nice either way.

    Yes, I like to see a $3,250 lens and $20,000 camera in the trash bin please.

    I love my Helios 44-2. Bought it on eBay several years ago, De-clicked and modded with permanent focus and aperture gears. All for about $110

    What speed booster did you use?

      I used a Metabones EF to RF Speedbooster: bhpho.to/4a91Dmi

    Could you ever compare helios f2 with chinese ideas 50mm 1.8/1.4/1.2/0.95 ? (+ without 0.71 speedbooster -> " small tele")

    I feel like this video was tailor-made for me. The Helios is my most used lens and I'm currently shopping for anamorphics. My current plan is to pre-order an Atlas Mercury 42mm which covers full-frame and will be more future-proof than the Vazen, but I'm not 100% decided. Thank you for this!

      Great to hear that! I haven’t tried out the Mercurys yet, but I think they will be a great investment. However, I’m also really happy with the Vazen. Another Idea would be for you to have a look into the new 2x Proteus anamorphics by Laowa, but they are huge.

      @@MortyFilms I was strongly considering them but I shoot on a C70 and I realized that a 16x9 with a 1.5x squeeze will roughly turn into 2:39:1, and a 2x squeeze on this sensor would waste resolution by only using the 4x3 center of the sensor. I haven't ACTUALLY shot with either, but that's my understanding... Does that track with your experience?

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoundItOutFilms I haven’t shot on 1.5x nor 2x either. But at 1.8x I’m always just using a 4:3 section of the sensor and how I see it, if you squeeze a 4:3 frame 2x you’ll always have a stronger anamorphic look than only squeezing a 16:9 frame 1.5x. However I do believe Atlas has some higher quality optics but I can’t say for sure as long as I haven’t tried it out myself.

    It seems you have a Valdai factory lens. Try finding a KMZ version. Difference is day and night! Zeiss clone.

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I’m aware of that, I even talked about it in this video featuring a KMZ version:

    In the future, to match colors easier and faster and with great, almost perfect accuracy maybe you should give a try to 3D Lut Creator… amazing app for photo and video lut too.

    The modded Helios 44-2 with purple flares and oval bokeh will look quite similar to an actual anamorphic lens :) got it from ebay for my Sony a7IV and it works great! Love your videos btw! Keep up the good work! Greetings from Hamburg
