Hope you enjoy reading through the HP books. I grew up on them as a kid, so they’ll always be special to me! Always amazed as well how many books I either forget about or have not heard of that sound like fun reads. Thanks for covering all of these, have fun reading!
Thanks so much! I'm enjoying the HP experience so far. I know it means a lot to so many people!
Gosh I am soooo curious to hear your thoughts on Lightbringer!! And The Chamber of Secrets is a perfect fit for the end of the year, those books are so cozy to me. Also heeeck yes for The Sundering Hours, I hope you love it as much as I did! Happy reading 🥰
I can't wait for all of these things!!! :D
Great list. I read The Lord of the Flies for school, a long time ago, but it has stayed with me ever since. I have been reading The Realm of the Elderlings this year, with the first three trilogies down. I'm hoping to get the Rain Wild Chronicles done before the end of the year, at least. And want to add in a few other books I have here, too. 💜
There's so many books, so little time! I hope you have a great time with the Rain Wild Chronicles!
Hi Tori, glad you are still enjoying Discworld. Jon Culshaw is a very talented impressionist, so he is an excellent choice for the audio of Discworld.
I've just finished re-reading (I first read it a school a long time ago) Lord Of The Flies earlier this week, it only took me 2 days so it'll be a quick read for you. It is a great book.
Absolutely loving the Discworld experience. And yes, I've been enjoying watching a few interviews with Jon Culshaw! He's incredibly talented.
I’m getting into dark age soon and I’m hearing the need for a break after is a common experience…. So needless to say I’m excited to dig into it.
Jacquelyn Hagen is someone I need to get into. They seem like such an interesting spin on a cool concept.
And we’ve talked so much about how we appreciate deadhouse. You’re second spin through--I can’t wait to hear how it goes
Jackie's books are so good! Definitely check them out. I hope you have a better experience with Dark Age than I did lol!
Awesome plans Tori! I’m hoping to read Wickwire Watch next year. Glad you’re enjoying Harry Potter.
I hope you love Wickwire!
Looks like some awesome reads to come!
I'll definitely be continuing Riverfall with book 2 and I hope to get into Senlin Ascends soon as well!
Yay! Glad to hear you'll be continuing with Riverfall. It's such a good debut series. I can't wait to sneak yours in my reading pile too!
DRACULA 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 It's SO GOOD!
Northanger Abbey❤❤❤❤ She's actually poking fun at people who read sensation novels which are the early version of thrillers/Mysteries. It's a fun one but it takes a bit to actually get to that part so hang in with it. It took me reading it twice to fall in love with it.
I think you'll really like Lord of the Flies.
I'm really looking forward to all of these! I liked the opening part of Northanger Abbey, so I'm optimistic about enjoying it.
Sounds like an ambitious list, Tori. I wouldn't say i have any books i need to prioritize by the end of the year, just to maintain the genre balance and find time to read every day. Stay safe, everyone and happy reading.
That's awesome, Tim! Honestly I think that's a healthier way to approach upcoming reads XD It's definitely ambitious, we'll see how it goes!
Catching up on Red Rising is also on my to-do list but I think I’m going to need a release date for the final book to get me motivated.
That’s totally fair! Hopefully soon. I know he’s in the writer cave right now!
Read Lord of the Flies this year. I’m not a particularly fast reader, and I finished it in 5 days, so you’ll finish it very quickly. Very entertaining, some good themes. I think you’ll enjoy it.
Awesome, it does read pretty quickly! I'm listening to William Golding's audio narration of it, and that's pretty cool.
You better get reading 🤭 that’s an awesome stack of books to finish out the year!!! Your pitch for northanger Abby sounds great and makes me want to pick this up 🥳
I know! It's an ambitious list, for sure, but I'm excited about it. There's a few other books I'd love to sneak in if I can. You should definitely try Northanger Abbey with me!
@@ToriTalks2 when are you planning on reading it? November or December?
@@FineReads Not sure yet! Probably December?
@@ToriTalks2 great 🥰 I’ll write it down for my December TBR. Buddy read!!!
I just finished The Sundering Hours Les than a month ago. I think I’ve given every book in this series 5 ⭐️. The Sundering Hours was no different. Absolutely love the characters and the world Jacquelyn Hagen has created.
I'm so glad you've enjoyed it so much. It's so good!
Closing out series (or arcs in a series at least) is my focus for the end of this year and into next year. I have one done (Green Bone), on the 3rd in a trilogy within a series (Assasin's Quest) right now, and hope to have at least 1 more series done or caught up by the end of the year.
I'm gearing up for Jannyuary, so that's my main reason for focusing on series and cleaning up my TBR. I think the only book that I'm going to squeeze in that doesn't fit that theme is Falling into Oblivion, which I am aiming for in December.
What a lineup! I hope you have a fantastic time with all of those.
I really should get back to Red Rising’s series next year! 😅 You can indeed not go wrong with the City Watch and both «Dracula» and «Lord of Flies» are Classics for a reason!
For myself, the list is:
«The Power Broker» by Robert Caro (Political Biography/Investigative Journalism Classic, my Q4 long-read)
«The Steel Tsar» (A Nomad of the Time Streams» Trilogy #3) by Michael Moorcock (Multiverse/Alternative History/Time Travel Steampunk(?)😅)
«Dreaming the Eagle» («Boudica» #1) by Manda Scott (Historical Fiction about the Celtic British Queen and her Rebellion against the Romans)
«Lord of Light» by Roger Zelazny (Science Fantasy inspired by the Legend of Siddhartha Gautama/the Buddha)
«The Fury of the Gods» (Bloodsworn Saga #3) by John Gwynne (Epic Fantasy inspired by Norse Mythology)
«The Wall» (City of Victory Trilogy #3) by Adrian Goldsworthy (Historical Military Fiction set during the building of Hadrian’s Wall)
«Baudolino» by Umberto Eco (Historical Fantasy set during the Later Crusades on border of Myth and History in 13th Century Europe and Middle East)
«The Children of Gods & Fighting Men» by Shauna Lawless (Historical Fantasy set in Ireland during the Viking Age)
«Leviathan Falls» (The Expanse, #9) by James S.A. Corey (Space Opera)
«Dictator» (Cicero Trilogy #3) by Robert Harris (Historical Fiction about the Roman Politician Cicero)
Bonus: «Doom of Destiny» (Sundered Nation #3) by Vaughn Roycroft (Epic/Historical Fantasy), not yet published, but will preorder ASAP when it comes out! 😄
Cheers Tori!
Some fantastic reads coming up for you!!! I can't wait to read Shauna Lawless' trilogy and Boudica. Those are both high on my TBR. I've also been itching to try the Expanse.
Arm of the Sphinx was my favorite of the four, and OH did I want ti live on an airship after reading it.
Lord of the Flies was a book we had to read in high school and it was the first book where we were taught about symbolism. Tell us about Piggy's glasses when you do a video.
Dracula has an un-official sequel by one Dacre Stoker which I found to be quite shocking.
I should be able to finish The Dresden Files before the year is up.
I already love the start of it with all the airship piratey vibes. It's so good!
Good luck on your Dresden series finale! I hope you have a great time with them.
Brave of you to set some short-term reading goals, I can't do it 😅 gives me anxiety just thinking about it 😂
Lol! It does sometimes for me too. But these were all books I knew I really wanted to get to. I normally don't do TBRs anymore for the same reason.
I finally looked up “epistolary” to figure out what it means! Learnings for the day 👨🎓
Oooh I should've defined that! But definitely an excellent word to know. :D Augustus by John Williams is my favorite epistolary novel.
SO MANY BOOKS here I also want to read! First I have to catch up on Discworld. Yay Malazan! or as Madison says, "MALLA-zan."
There's so many good ones! I'm excited for the rest of the year. :D
I’ve been curious to see what you’d think of the Red Rising continuation. It’s too bad it’s not really working for you. I like the Darrow Arc overall but I also struggled a bit with Dark Age. I did think Lightbringer is a step in the right direction.
I'm really looking forward to reading Lightbringer and seeing how he chose to redirect the series after his break. Thanks for watching, Matt!
Great list!! Tori do you have plans to start the Sun Eater books? Maybe the Red Rising fix you need once book 7 is out?
It’s definitely a favorite series of mine and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!!
Oh absolutely! That's actually one of my priority series for 2025! I wanted to finish Red Rising (at least through Lightbringer) before I started it and give a little space between the two series. I'm very excited to try it!
@@ToriTalks2 Well I hope you love it! It’s pretty different totally from RR, but I think there’s enough basic DNA between the two that you’ll enjoy it.
Plus Ruocchio has 12 foot tall man eating albino space vampires……so that’s a big plus in his favor
I aim to finish Young Warriors (which is an anthology of YA fantasy stories) before 2024 ends. That way, I have a fresh start for 2025.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Oh I need to read The Wickwire Watch. It'll happen... someday. Hopefully this year, but realistically that might be hard
I think you'd really like it, Kaat!
Where did this year go!? I am picking up Blue Flames next. Back to RiverFall!
Omg John I have no clue what happened to 2024. It's CRAZY! I hope you enjoy Blue Flames!
@@ToriTalks2 just crazy fast!
It's probably too much to ask for, but I'm hoping to start and finish Reaper's Gale (Erikson), The Mercy of Gods (James SA Corey), Wind and Truth (Sanderson), and The Blood Stones (please forgive me for not reading sooner). There are a handful of others on a "nice to have" like Suneater books, Threadlight series, Empire of the Wolf series, etc.
No need to apologize at all! I'm a firm believer that we read books when we're meant to. I hope you enjoy all of those awesome reads!
Go go Terry Pratchett (except for those fugly US covers, sorry). I've read all of the Discworld series twice though it's been a decade since then. I hope you'll like Lord of the Flies. One of my favourite books of all time. For myself I hope to finish both Empire of Silence (e-book) and The Sword of Kaigen (paperback) which I'm reading ATM. I'm a slow reader but I'm rather optimistic about it.
Yeah the US mmpb covers are pretty meh for sure. Reading through the entire Discworld is IMPRESSIVE. I can't wait to get there. Empire of Silence and Kaigen are great end of the year reads, I hope you have a great time with both.
I just finished Dracula for our classics book club pick of the month. The epistolary style was cool, but had problems with how he writes women and about women.
Interesting. I have no idea what I'm in for, so we'll see how it lands.
@@ToriTalks2 i look forward to hearing your thoughts 😊
Mmm. Lightbringer.
