Thanks for going through all that extra effort Dev. I hope you know that we all look forward to this video all season. It's my personal favorite of the season.
Every time I get super down about magic and corporate greed, capitalism yadda yadda, I watch your video and it reminds me why I love the game and what makes it fun. You are a great human and would be a great addition to any playgroup. Thank you for just having fun, Dev!
Yeah, but provided that we end up playing again someday we'll be happy we held onto our cardboard. Also, a lot of expensive cards have fallen into affordable prices.
General Lisa Kudrow of Drannith!!! As a fellow 90's kid, I can't think of a joke that hasn't landed in any of your videos. Big fan. Love the lists, especially love the deck Tech's, love the knowledge. I've been around for a long time, and sold my collection probably 4 or 5 times. So I've missed MANY sets, but with your videos, I've got the knowledge base vicariously through you! I'm old enough now that this time, a couple thousand WON'T be tempting enough for me to sell my collection. Ending rant though, cheers on being probably my favorite mtg youtuber! Throw Ziggy a couple treats and or a can of tuna (whatever he likes most!) from me for being the goodest of boys!
I fell in love with Sprite Dragon the moment I saw it. It can fly side by side with Lightning Stormkins to make Izzet aggro (with an evasion theme) into a viable deck.
I totally agree and can take a couple different routes with it. I personally think sprite dragon with a bunch of cheap counter spells and burn to protect will be a killer deck for a while in standard and people will be calling Sprite Dragon OP eventually if don't see it outta the gate like us lol
It’s a new addition to the red blue cantrip prowess modern deck which stands up stronger than every other creature as it allows you to stick to the two mana cmc maximum and gives permaprowess and two forms of evasion in haste and flying. It is your number three choice after monastery swiftspear and storm chaser mage. Amazing card. I needed this card.
In answer to your question, I am smoking some high grade Cunning Nightbonder Wow I didn't read the flavour text of Greatshark til now. That's a bit weird, like it's not alternate art, it's a real life Jaws reference on a Standard card lol
Hardened scales may be too slow though at what 4 CMC it's at least attainable. I'm just not convinced it will be enough to warrant a spot in the decks that want it. What kind of decks are you thinking?
That. Was. Awesome. I just learned of your channel yesterday after watching your Underrated Ikoria cards video-and now I'm in! Chill but knowledgeable, global perspective but detailed comments, and passion but measured excitement about how pushed the environment is. Thank you. I agree totally agree about The Octopus and Gemrazer after playing with them. I threw a bunch of green mutate creatures in a straight forward Stompy deck without really paying attention and then next thing I know I'm bummed about getting a Questing Beast because I really wanted a Gemrazer. Gonna be a wild ride! Looking forward to your take on things. Cheers.
I wouldn't be too disappointed about having that Questing Beast. Gemrazer's a good card, but Questy is better in a lot of circumstances. You can definitely play them both (especially if you focus on mutating the Gemrazer and treat it more like a 3-drop than a 4-drop).
@@matterhorn731 Oh, I definitely treat Gemrazer more like a 3-drop because, at the time, I actually had a Yorvo with several counters on it on the board and the opponent had an Anax out (which the Gemrazer would have targeted because that's an enchantment creature). One time, I even mutated a Gemrazer on top of a Questing so that I could play the other Questing Beast in my hand.
Would reeeeally like to see a decktech from you on Pioneer. Taking your budget prowess to Pioneer would be sweet!! btw, I get the Shanaia Twain joke, and it did impress me
I was playing a game where someone got the sharknado enchantment and the cycling enchantment down then started cycling the one mana cycled that draws you cards and casting jeskai ultimatums for one and making 7/7 sharks it was crazy
OMG. You gave my favorite card of the set the #1 3 color enchantment cycle vote. Ramps and Wincons Konrad. Love you Dev! In other formats besides standard: MNEMONIC BETRAYAL. When you play a control deck that yawgmoth's your opponents graveyard... ... ... With delve. Correct me if I'm wrong but betrayal is legal in standard until September? So control the game until turn 6. Cast Nest and Betrayal and pop out your opponents graveyard and make them deal with it
Its kinda funny that Dev forgot that mono U merfolk is a deck in Modern when talking up Sea Crasher Octopus. That deck has been looking for a card draw piece. Flash is super delicious gravy on this in that deck. I agree about Fiend Artisan though. This card looks so incredibly broken and will do serious work in decks that can exploit it, which are many across several formats. Im actually worried that it may push the format away from midrange strats.
I opened Zirda in one of my first Arena packs and I've been trying to brew around it. Today it seems like I've found an amazing Rakdos deck with Zirda. It's got pumpable creatures like Knight of the Ebon Legion and Phoenix of Ash, but there's a huge menace payoff with Frillscare Mentor. I'm running War of the Spark Angrath, Blood Curdle, and DREADMALKIN!
Title: top 25 Dev: mentions literally 69 cards (Counting all 10 companions despite only really liking three because he says the slot is for the companions, etc)
Ziggy looks just like my cat! Also looks like Ziggy is just as needy/cuddly as mine too. With that out of the way, great list, got some new cards and ideas I need to hunt down.

It's been like as you described for a while. They'll focus in a new mechanic each set, or a new element of Mtg in some capacity. For example, Zendikar was all about lands and land manipulation (plus STONKINGLY HUGE Eldrazi), Mirrodin was about artifacts, Theros was enchantments, Ikoria is BIG creatures that combo abilities and Ravnica is about two coloured blurring-the-standard-mechanics-of-each-individual-colour set
Heya Dev, one of the other YT channels I subscribe to recently uploaded a video on the Top 10 Cats in competitive Magic. I thought of your channel (and your cats) as I was watching that video! The channel is Nizzahon Magic :)
Offspring's Revenge is the cornerstone of the Mardu Mutate deck. Those 1/1s it makes always gives you a target to mutate to. It is actually very powerful card.
Good video . I find it tough to preorder when the meta will be solved on arena and such b4 the cards even ship. Quick Dev give me the techs so I don't waste my money on hype!
Green with another Temur Sabertooth is going to be ridiculous! Even though the creature has to be a Human I still think that requirement is going to be easy to pull off
As far as Proud Wildbonder goes, there's definitely a possible deck out there with tribal trample. You got a good amount of 1, 2 and 3-drop with trample on them that you could curve out into it.
With trigger stacking, I think that Luminous Broodmoth and Kitchen Finks (and any other persist creature, but the Finks is just in-color with the moth so it comes to mind first) actually go infinite. Just like Persist and Undying have exclusive triggers, allowing them to bounce around infinitely, this flying counter and persist's -1/-1 counter should be exclusive since whichever one triggers first puts the Finks back on the battlefield and invalidates the other, and whenever Finks dies the counter that's on it gets removed, so you just alternate between giving it flying and -1/-1. Throw in some sac outlet and you've got a turn 3/4 infinite combo in modern or legacy. You could get it faster in Legacy. But yeah, it's duuuuuuumb.
I agree with your list for the most part. I think Ozolith is going to break out in other formats even if it doesnt end up doing much in standard. I also feel the same about Lurrus and Fiend Artisan, Both are good in standard, but will really shine in other formats that can abuse them more.
I've been traumatizing people with Mire Triton + Fiend Artisan + Snapdax with Alsied of Life's Bounty and Broodmoth to protect it and Lurrus to revive your key creatures. With 5 creatures in they graveyard, you can curve into an 8/10 double strike that kills a blocker with 4 or less health then hits face immediately. Also, Mire Triton is amazing in this deck because it fills the graveyard while healing you against mono-red and creating a deathtoucher to screw with Gruul stompy.
Im new to mtg but not new to card games but when i saw your number one... I only thought of broken combos with this thing... The only thing that dosent make this card near broken is that it dosent have one of these things protection, trample, deathtouch or hexproof... It dosent matter if it dosent have reach the fact that you can mana ramp this thing to be big early on and search... I think it can be bigger then 6/6 on turn three... Ijs.. Lol.... Great card...now if they would reprint birds of paradise i would be a happy individual....
LOL If Ziggy was a Manx he would look exactly like my old cat Snapdax Mardu's version of Siege rhino? Song of creations + Rielle the everwise Voracious Greatshark is going in my Man o War blue tempo deck, perfect finisher for tempo decks Agreed, Gemrazer without mutating is even useful as a 4cmc 4/4 reach trample, in EDH this is going to be fun, mutate onto a mana dork and wreck a enchantment/artifact: yes please. I can't wait to use Shark Typhoon in my FBLTHP deck, considering it has tonnes of non creature spells, counterspells, blue board wipes which can now possibly leave a flying shark= OMG I do love tempo LOL Dev you picked all my cards :P
Goyf is better than fiend in terms of how fast you can get a high power because fiend you have to do things to yourself in order to get it stronger. Goyf you disrupt your opp and it gets stronger
I've been saying this a lot, but I think Lukka could be good in a very specific deck where you just have a bunch of 2 mana mana dorks and a few copies of a huge creature you want to play. A bunch of cycle and draw cards would be useful. Might choose to have the 8/8 trample haste be the top end so you can immediately get in damage on turn 4, or you could go for something much bigger and play the Footfalls card to give them trample/haste.
Gemrazor has done well so far in my green white enchantments deck on top of our favorite hexproof elf. In my Green red aggro deck I took out brontodon and added this
I was a little bit skeptical about Song of Creation and I REEEAAAALLLY wanted to play this just for the art, but you sold me with "discard your hand is a plus" argument. Cheap escape cards will easily become bonkers draw spell you could cast from the yard (and solve the problem to top-deck a land and not a spell the turn after you cast it)... so yeah.
No love for Rielle? In a format with cathartic reunion and decks already built around looting? And now with sprite dragon? The fact that I'm not sure you're wrong for overlooking her shows you how crazy this set is.
Hey dev would be awesome if you could do a draft guide for arena! great vid and I agree flash is gonna only get stronger. Im really hype for the new uw fliers piece that can get bigger than a fairy vandal real fast.
I really like Parcel Beast. I have an affinity for the mechanics of that snake Elf druid Oracle guy in Simic colors. I don't know why, but he's cool. Same with Matter Reshaper. Parcel Beast is a constant Oracle snake druid on a stronger stick. Yep. Fiend Artisan is bonkers. 2 mana, not legendary, pretty much the lowest possible cost for a valuable ability, and it grows too easily. Did I mention it's not legendary and only costs 2 mana?
ozilith looks insane in k'rrik if you're going for a voltron of him in commander. Also looking at how I can abuse in Yawgmoth with removing the Undying counters looping those sacrifices earlier.
22:50 took a while for the joke to hit me, but that's the funniest and least expected joke I've heard in weeks. you may think your channel is a cat channel, but actually for "no special feelings for cats, either direction" viewers, I think jokes are our Ziggy. :D
Broodmoth went straight into my aristocrats strider citadel deck. Wins the turn you play citadel unless you're really unlucky. Let me sac a woe strider with woe strider to effectively scry 5 top lands and do 5 damage and gain 5 life... And THEN sac the first strider with the flying one... Let me sac a Gary to scry and bring back a Gary, devotion and all
Wouldn't "The Ozolith" work with "put X counters to target creature until end of turn" type cards, if they leave the battlefield before the end of turn, basically making those counters permanent?
anyone else want to the ozilith and hardened scales in standard? also i really think you underrated broodmoth here, i would honestly switch that with gemrazer. i mean it's really good but honestly a 4/4 is honestly not that pushed anymore😂 with cards like titans nest and fiend artisan
Parcelbeast refunds the mana you spend to activate it if you hit a land because it ETBs untapped. So if your deck is land-dense you don’t fall behind curve at all but accelerate.
This is a cat channel with some weird trading card theme.
So?
I come for the steeze.
Some... rap, cat... magic card channel. Man. This dystopian future really is unique like in the movies and books
I'm here for the T-shirt-collection
I came for the cats but stayed for the cards
Most under-rated MTG TH-camr right now.
Thanks for going through all that extra effort Dev. I hope you know that we all look forward to this video all season. It's my personal favorite of the season.
love the fitting t-shirt choice^^
11/11 Reptar!
Shoot! I'm happy for Godzilla, but they should have slipped a Reptar in there.
He got good shirts the aerial was funny the mermaid
Every time I get super down about magic and corporate greed, capitalism yadda yadda, I watch your video and it reminds me why I love the game and what makes it fun. You are a great human and would be a great addition to any playgroup. Thank you for just having fun, Dev!
Justin Carroll agree! Dev is awesome!!
Nothing better than waking up to Dev and Ziggy. Loving you from Australia Dev keep up the good work
I haven't haven't bought cardboard in a while but this set looks packed with multi format value...
Buying cardboard seems almost wasteful when we can't get together and play in person anyway right now
Yeah, but provided that we end up playing again someday we'll be happy we held onto our cardboard. Also, a lot of expensive cards have fallen into affordable prices.
Sultai “Oops, All Creatures!” with the Ooze companion and some of the best creatures in the format. I’m definitely building that in Historic.
Ziggy is SO CUTE. Like, dude, he's such a cutie!
cant wait to make an Ozolith deck for phylactery lich!
Nolan Beck you sir have my respect
18:43 Ziggy is like " top ten... Uggh thats my que. Later dev. Have fun with your cardboard.

It is your number three choice after monastery swiftspear and storm chaser mage. Amazing card. I needed this card.
You've already had a nightmare cat.
I dare not mention his name, but it begins with Z.
In answer to your question, I am smoking some high grade Cunning Nightbonder
Wow I didn't read the flavour text of Greatshark til now. That's a bit weird, like it's not alternate art, it's a real life Jaws reference on a Standard card lol
Joe Hill shit... well spotted! Love it
Love your vids man. As a Commander player I love hearing your reasons of why cards from new sets will be good or bad in the standard environment.
Ozolith is almost guaranteed to cause a revival of Hardened Scales in Modern.
That’s why I’m getting a 4 of, just in case lol
Hardened scales may be too slow though at what 4 CMC it's at least attainable. I'm just not convinced it will be enough to warrant a spot in the decks that want it.
What kind of decks are you thinking?
@@adamhall1340 What 4cmc are you talking about? Ozolith is 1
Hardened Scales, Ozolith, SIMIC ASCENDANCY. Or, you know, just trample...
@@adamhall1340 Ozolith is 1 mana, im not sure which 4 cmc spell you mean but it with ravager is gonna be buuuuuusted

Another great podcast! Thanks Dev.
Good list Dev. Can't agree with the position of Broodmoth though 😊
Loving the cat fluff particle effects!
I love essence scatter. I'm very glad to see it back along with cathartic reunion
I just came here for the cat nightmare you have next to you
Yes!!!! Needs me some top 25 from the devs my favorite video of ever cycle. Ur the man bro. Love the channel and ur content and u freakin rock man.

Title: top 25
Dev: mentions literally 69 cards
(Counting all 10 companions despite only really liking three because he says the slot is for the companions, etc)
In commander, The Ozilith would be really good in a Reyhan or Skullbriar deck and could be broken very easily
Ziggy looks just like my cat! Also looks like Ziggy is just as needy/cuddly as mine too. With that out of the way, great list, got some new cards and ideas I need to hunt down.
came to the comments to say Ziggy is all about the love and approves of slitherwisp.
Top 25 Ziggy moments, do it... 😜
Its funny how arboreal grazer is going to be the most broken card in standard. What a thought lol
Brushwagg is jealous
Turn 1 grazer/goose into turn 2 gemrazer is going to be in every deck. swingin with a 4/4 monkey on turn 2.
Finally. I remember having 2 of these in my prerelease deck and I thought it was extremely powerful for a deck that wasnt even built around it.
Ziggy's all, "So are you going to pet me, or what?"
loving the vids ! keep it up! my fav magic channel by far.
btw question for you experienced fine folks playing MTG longer then i have, Ive been playing since rivals of ixilan (fairly new) and been loving the game ever since (only thing i play really), ive noticed that as we get to new cards sets. the themes (e.g fairy tale ) may change but its consistent in terms of favored card types in the set...almost a pattern is you will.

"Titan's Nest maybe is the best card in last sets." Oh yeah. Its awesome!
Wu fliers is a really good deck in standard. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm excited for that flying cat.
3rd times a charm man. thanks for this nice video. have to agree, this set is bonkus man, too many overpowered cards
Great video!
The Cat + Mothra scares me
We will need trample creatures
11:20 new reaction meme forever thanks Dev
Love the vid Dev....Curious, what are your thoughts on ominous seas? I’ve been seeing it do some busted stuff for me and for others on arena
I'm so glad you brought up keep safe. I really think it's an amazing piece in tempo decks.
Love Keep Safe. Probably gonna put it in my Kalamax edh deck since he will be a magnet for removal.
Offspring's Revenge is the cornerstone of the Mardu Mutate deck. Those 1/1s it makes always gives you a target to mutate to. It is actually very powerful card.
Im new to mtg for the most part but Snapdax is BY FAR my favorite mtg card ever printed. Idk why but i love this card.

FIEND is the real deal thanks again Dev great content
I've been traumatizing people with Mire Triton + Fiend Artisan + Snapdax with Alsied of Life's Bounty and Broodmoth to protect it and Lurrus to revive your key creatures. With 5 creatures in they graveyard, you can curve into an 8/10 double strike that kills a blocker with 4 or less health then hits face immediately. I agree. Gemrazer will appear in a lot of decks.
ozilith looks insane in k'rrik if you're going for a voltron of him in commander. Also looking at how I can abuse in Yawgmoth with removing the Undying counters looping those sacrifices earlier.
2 mana cycling in mardu with lurrus just won me 4-0 on the free draft on arena. So much value from the cycling and Lurrus' recursion.
22:50 took a while for the joke to hit me, but that's the funniest and least expected joke I've heard in weeks. you may think your channel is a cat channel, but actually for "no special feelings for cats, either direction" viewers, I think jokes are our Ziggy. :D
I'm a wizard now dev told me at the beginning so I'm a wizard ok let's get arbys beef n chedder and a rootbeer
Let me sac a Gary to scry and bring back a Gary, devotion and all
Winota is gunna be a beast!
Is Grazer into Razer the new Llanowar into Champion?
